- Ever since Game of Thrones became the standard bearer for contemporary prestige TV, it's been an inevitability that each network is looking for that one show that could become "The Next Game of Thrones." No one can ever truly predict what will catch fire and become a prestige TV smash, but that’s where Shōgun on FX comes in.
The Shōgun TV show has kept fans in awe, with Shōgun episode 8 and Shōgun episode 9 taking things to the next level at every turn. Hiroyuki Sanada is inspired as Yoshii Toranaga, and Anna Sawai’s Lady Mariko has easily won the heart of the internet. Cosmo Jarvis’ John Blackthorne has even wiggled his way in there as well!
Now, with the Shōgun finale around the corner, it seems like it’s time to finally call it: Shōgun is everything Game of Thrones should have been.

There are other novels in the Shogun series, although they are set in different time periods such as the Meiji Restoration.

No and it doesnt need to be a GoT clone, it is its OWN, UNIQUE, flavour.
They are two very different experiences, and shogun is only a mini series. Also you brought up the bad rushed ending for GoT, saying it made women characters look bad. You clearly ignored Sansa becoming a leader, and Arya killing the main evil threat. Two different cultures are being portrayed.

Succession was basically a modern Game of Thrones as well considering billionaire CEOs are essentially modern day Kings

Literally name any scene in Shogun that can touch Neds death, Blackwater Bay, Daenerys getting the Unsullied, the Red Wedding, Tyrions Trial, the Mountain vs the Viper, Jaimes confession, Hardhome, Battle of the Bastards, Cercei blowing up the Sept, Daenerys coming to Westeros….
Even when you compare characters like Robert Baratheon to Buntaro, it’s insane how much more depth the former has. Or Ishido compared to Tywin Lannister. GoT easily clears.

Funny how you praise a random female assassin in Shogun who fails and dies in like 30 seconds but don’t even mention Arya Stark who takes out the whole of House Frey alone, seems like you’re the ones reducing women roles, we really about to act like Thrones isn’t full of fully realised and powerful women of all ages, ability’s and bodys. Old and smart like Ollena Tyrell, big and strong like Brienne, leaders like Yara or Daenerys. The women in Shogun just want to kill themselves for men.
Nothing will ever compare. The amount of work actors did and artistic skills that was used will never be forgotten. GOT IS THE GREATEST SHOW EVER

You really can't compare a 1 season show to an 8 season show. IGN you can do better. GOT stays winning despite the rushed ending. GOT literally changed the series industry.
This is so silly game of thrones went on for 7 seasons, and yes ended poorly. But season 1-5 was peak TV. Shogun will only run for 1 season so you can’t really compare the two
