What I neglected to say was it wasn’t the cheapest, it was in sale. They said they would have it in stock but didn’t (I went back 3xs) so they sold me the next higher saw for the lower price. It doesn’t do what your BD saw did. It put a DeWalt blade on it from the start.
This was a good video especially for new wood workers as well as shade tree carpenters. I expected to see you throw the original blade like a frisbee. Again great video. You have a good presentation style.

Bought a black&decker circular saw 12 years or so ago. I've remodeled much of our home with it and edged alot of live edge oak, maple, and tulip poplar that I've milled with my Alaskan mill. Alot of that live edge wood was 8ft long and up to 2" thick. Its held up well and aside from me losing the wrench it works like new. I bought a 1993 skil mag77 at a pawnshop last fall and put a 25ft cord on it,new brushes and handle on it. For $100 I've got a saw thatll probably outlast me and powers through everything with style. The 25ft long cord is the best thing you can do to a powertool. I just coil the cord down into a 5 gallon bucket and set the saw on top. If I need the saw I just carry the bucket.

12 years ago Black & Decker we’re best in class for power tools. Nowadays they’ve regressed to beat the bottom of the pack. The company is still huge and makes money because of their other brands. People don’t know that they own a lot of other brands but the black and decker name is now a budget tool.

My dad bought me a little Woodhawk when I first got married back in 1991. Still works. I was working on a job a few months ago and one of the guys dropped my Porter Cable, bending and breaking it all to pcs. I drug out that old woodhawk, put a new blade on it and it still cuts good. I built a house and a couple of barns with it years ago and been sitting collecting dust except to cut tin for years. Don't get me wrong I like newer more powerful stuff, and bought me another PC, but you can get by with a whole lot less.

My first 7-1/4" circular saw was a Black & Decker. That saw, I used for the next 30 years plus, albeit I purchased it long before B&D merged with Stanley. This saw is now 40+ years old and it still cuts with the original blade that came with it. Because of using the B&D for most of my life, I have taken the attitude that those angle marks are only there for show and should not be depended on, on any saw. Go ahead, try cutting an accurate 45 degree miter for a frame with it. I recently replaced my other circular saws with the purchase of a Kobalt 7-1/4" saw because I liked the way it looked and felt. The blade that came with it was an ultra thin general purpose blade which was my only concern about it. when I laid into some plywood with it, I was really impressed. I got a nice clean, straight cut with it. For $68 I was impressed.
Might I suggest that the blade that came with that saw is only an 18 tooth course rip cut blade. If it is ultra thin also, then that's the reason you got burn marks doing a cross cut and the blade wandered as it expanded and warped while over heating. Would I buy B & D today? Probably not; only if they were giving them away for a few cents on the dollar.

@@TallDad610 I had always heard that a table saw was the "heart of the shop" before I got one. I didn't understand why that was. But they really are. They aren't "essential" to build things but they make things much easier. Which is why I wanted one and saved for the Delta that I got. Didn't want to buy one that would need upgrading in a year. But I've built a lot of projects with just a circular saw and drills. That's how I started and worked that way for a while before getting a table saw.

I've been looking at the universal track systems for circ saws and some of them look pretty good. But the really interesting ones are a pain in the butt to mount to the saw. It's starting to make sense to buy one of the more complicated tracks and just keep a dedicated saw set up with it. Not sure how I'll go, but I'm TOTALLY sold on investing in blades now.

Stanley Black and Decker owns Porter Cable , Dewalt and Craftsman and Black and Decker being the budget brand. There’s a tool for every job depending on your budget and skill level. In most cases tools don’t make a better woodworker , time, patience , practice ,trial and error and knowledge. No matter what your skill level is of woodworking we can all learn from each other.

@@coreywalker2656 Hi Corey I was not complaining about Dewalt I have the DW735x and the Dewalt 12” sliding compound miter saw they are awesome. Tools are like any commodity you get what you pay for , if I was a professional carpenter or handyman Milwaukee or Mikita would be my choice. I do have a Mikita drill driver and power sander they have out lasted my old craftsman tools. The biggest complaint about Dewalt is the batteries, however the brushless Dewalt’s are better as the don’t run the battery down as fast as the non brushless. What I was getting at Black and Decker is the budget brand not Dewalt however Porter Cable and Craftsman are not the same as they were 20 years ago. Keep the fingers away from the blade 😂👍🏻

    • @Damon_Barber

Absolutely correct! Tools don’t make a better woodworker, but knowing if the tool is the problem or the person using it is critical to overcoming obstacles. Like the cheap blade in this video cutting all wonky. If you know cheap blades do that, you can be more confident in your skills.

I also think HART could end up with some interesting things with it's Walmart partnership like why not have a household vacuum that runs on a HART battery? He's definitely right about the blade! I LEARNED the hard way.I have the exact same saw and I'm a huge black and decker fan( were the only tools I my house growing up or knew)
Anyways at first I was pretty distraught see how poor the performance was with this saw in you video. I actually have the same saw and love it, but I've only ever used to to cut 2x4 up to 2x8 or cross cut 3/4 sections and had no issue, then I tried to rip a solid core door for a project and basically wrecked my project because the blade IS EXACTLY as bad as you said it was. I didn't wanna believe it but it's TRUE.
I managed to salvage the project and make some adjustments switching out the blade with a 24 Ryobi blade and it made a night and day difference. I'm a newer wood worker/builder and I didn't wanna believe I but ITS HUGE the type of blade can make any saw either a hero or your worst enemy!

Using an 18 tooth blade then comparing it to a 40 tooth blade isn't really a fair comparison. If it were the B&D 18 tooth and CMT 18 tooth blade, that would be a fairer competition. I've had a B&D circular saw for about 20 years and, like you said, it's cut just about anything you could ever want to cut in a home shop, but I have used better blades, and changed out for plywood or finer cuts using a greater tooth count blade.

  • @jamicrawford6729
    @jamicrawford6729 3 роки тому

A good blade on that saw and it'll work completely different than it does from the box. Been using a $20 B&D for 25 years. My Delta tools are of the B&D era as well before they were bought out from Stanley/B&D. Remember, Stanley/B&D owns Dewalt, Porter Cable, Craftsman, and others.

    • @jamicrawford6729

And assuming if you bought your Delta prior to 2019, it's a Stanly/B&D tool

Nice job ramping up the production value of your videos, Matt. The text overlays are on point, and dialing down the volume when the saw was running was a nice touch also. Yes - some of us do notice things like this. Next level achieved, bud. Looking great!

I think the wavy cut on the plywood is a combination of the bad blade and the fact that the wood wasn’t fully supported on inside causing the wood to bounce as the saw was pushed on it

It absolutely played a role, he was ripping thin stock with an 18T blade. 18T is for rough framing or thick stock ripping. Switching to a 40T CMT is not an apples to apples comparison but it is a fantastic combination blade. It’s like comparing an electric golf cart to a Tesla for your morning commute. Will they both get you to work? Yes, but one was actually designed for the task.

The base of these saws is too weakly attached, it flexes ( not saying the blade doesn't too) . I can twist my saw on the base by probably 5 degrees. The good part is I ended up using my Dad's 1982 "skil' saw. Solid as a rock

    • @BassadorWoodworking

I don't think the cheap blade is the reason of those huge curves. If it was the blade, then the blade is moving perpedicular to it's rotation and that means the blade was not tighten well enough. The cheap blade was responsible for those burn marks though
