Funny thing about someone like me I am at most calm in a crisis. Sounds like oxymoron but my brain has more theta waves then a normal brain. A long time ago our family's home caught fire it was an dialectical fire in the ceiling. Poor wiring installation on lights that got recalled we didn't know. It made me go in to hyper-focus mode I got really calm. We had no fire extinguisher but our neighbor down road did. I ran to the phone called them I said no time to explain send him down with a fire extinguisher right now. With in a minute he was there and he put it out. Most likely saved out house from burning down fire and spread quickly once they get going. When things get bad I get calm and focused.

I have mastered this but still and will always be still learning to refine my mastership.
Here are 7 rules I follow in my life to make existence palatable.
    1. NEVER take anything personal. Remember you are not the center of existence.
    2. Never use your thoughts, and words against yourself or others. Remember #1.
    3. Never assume have the courage to ask. If you cannot ask then it's probably not your business and forget about it no useless headspace.
    4. Always do your best. Remember you best changes depending on health or situations just do you best.
    5. ALWAYS be skeptical of what you hear, read, watch or told to you by someone else, but in that skepticism learn to listen and think for yourself if it's to good to be true most of the time it is.
    6. ALWAYS be yourself be authentic not what society wants this is your life take it back give NO ONE power over you .
    7. Live humbled and grateful. You need not prove anything to anyone by doing this you cut down unnecessary drama and attention.

*7 Stoic Exercises For Inner Peace:*
*1) Negative visualization:* This prepares you for uncomfortable situations. By visualizing the negativity combined with an accepting attitude, we can manage our expectations and shield our souls against adversity.
*2) Self-control practice:* Our body, property, reputation, command are not in our control. Our opinion pursuit, desire, aversion are in our control. We have to strengthening the things in our control.
*3) Don't give a fuck practice:* The opinions of other people is not up to you, so why worry about it? By deliberately making a fool of ourselves we will be exposed to situations in which people will judge us negatively. Thus slowly it won't bother you and won't give a fuck.
*4) Journaling:* Writing your thoughts down is a practice done by the stoics to find relief and create a sense of order in the thoughts and memories.
*5) Memento Mori:* Remember thou art mortal. Your life is ticking away second by second and we should not waste it on trivial things. Also we should life more fully. Thinking about death should not gratitude for the life that has been given to us. Let's not postpone nothing.
*6) View from above:* When we realize how small we are (compared to the cosmos) it become more easier to let go of the trivial matters.
*7) Amor Fati:* Loving fate. Whatever happens in your life as along as embrace the outcome you will be fine. Goals and ambitions are fine as long as you remain detached from the outcome. Do your best forget the rest.

Thank you for summarizing here. I just do wonder what they mean about the second principal. Is our body, property, reputation and command Not in our control? how come? can we not control to have a fit or chubby body? can we not control to work hard and have better property? can we not control to have good reputation by being good? and don't get what he means by command. Please clarify if possible. Thanks.

    • @alia1413
      @alia1413 3 роки тому +4

@@starmazaheri7448 I think the second principle means that we are not in TOTAL CONTROL of our body, property or reputation. No matter how clean we eat or how hard we exercise there is still a slim chance that we get a disease just because it runs in our family. And yes we can work hard to have better property however, so many unpredictable things might (or might not) hinder our progress toward reaching that goal. Similarly, we can aspire to be a person with good reputation but chances are that there might be somebody who just can't stand our face for no apparent reason! Thus, all there is left for us to be in control of is our attitude and how we approach the problems and dilemmas in our lives.

    • @starmazaheri7448
      @starmazaheri7448 3 роки тому +1

@@alia1413 Thanks Ali for taking time to explain, yes not ''total'' control and sometimes external matters get in the way. And yes our best Action will be our controlled and positive Reaction to those life disturbances. All of these good lessons of life are interrelated in many religions as well. Goodness is a natural instinct we are born with but need to be constantly reminded of through different religions/ philosophies and the like.

Here are my 7 stoic principles that allow me to live happily & freely:
    1. Have the courage to be honest & don't worry if the truth offends anyone. Their feelings are irrelevant to the truth.
    2. Follow your gut instincts & don't trust everything that you hear or see, especially on TV or the internet.
    3. When someone makes you angry, smile & respond back with witty humor. Kill them with kindness, don't give them any satisfaction.
    4. Do want you want to do & do it now. Stop using the phrase "next time" because there might well be no next time.
    5. Have fun & play like a kid occasionally, especially with your own children. It's good for your mental well being.
    6. Ignore the idiots, losers & assholes of the world, even if they are family or friends. You should not waste your precious time on petty people.
    7. Be grateful for all the good things you have in life. Somewhere out there in the world is someone who is much worse off than you, guaranteed.
Hope that helps. Have a great stoic day, everyone!

I wonder if negative thinking would be just thinking like taking a possible inventory of what could go wrong for the day. Positive thinking would be differentiated by empowering with emotions what I want to attract onto my life.

I get what you mean here. I choose to see it as hope for the best and prepare for the worst. I like to visual both possible situations(best and worst) and pretty much be accepting and grateful of anything that falls in between.

My stoicism pisses off my highly sensitive boyfriend. If I don’t have a matching emotion to something small that he’s taking very seriously, there is “something wrong with me.” or “that not okay” or he says “I need you look deeper”. I don’t let things with little importance get to me, and have always lived my life with the mantra, hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Take what comes and accept it. My boyfriend takes everything seriously and personally. He worries often, stresses every day and nearly everything bothers him if it’s not right in his mind. For me, I’m chill and stress free. I’m afraid he sees that as an issue that needs to be fixed. It’s hurting our relationship and frustrates us both. At least I can listen to these videos and feel a sense of validation and clarity. :)

'Live like this is your last day.'
I've thought about it. It basically says to do what you've wanted to do and enjoy. But if this was my last day, I probably won't do things that I need to do like study for an exam/ important work/ anything tedious. I'd rather spend all my money fulfilling my wildest dreams. But then, if I have to live for another 10000 days, I'm basically screwed.
So, it should be rather framed as to enjoy every little moment of whatever you're doing, in life, because your life is too precious to waste being annoyed and sad all the time.

Amor Fati is analogous to prominent quote from the Hindu Scripture, the Bhagwat Gita wherein Lord Krishna says to Arjun the following:
    कर्मण्ये वाधिका रस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन।
    मा कर्म फल हेतु र्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्व कर्मणि॥
    That translates as following:
You have a right to “Karma” (actions) but you should never be motivated by the results of your actions, nor should there be any attachment in not doing your prescribed activities.

This put me more in peace more than anything. For a while I've been trying to journal positive, tell myself that I will have a great day. But I soon realized what I'm doing is trying to stop my emotions. Which strengthened my anxiety. Setting this unrealistic expectation of striving for 100% happiness and 0% anxiety was doing actually quite the opposite and causing severe harm and disappointment and guilt. As soon as I excepted that things can go bad. My emotions will be emotions and that the outcome is going to be as it will, so much weight was lifted from me. I don't feel like I'm having a seizure 24/7 trying to fight my thoughts. And surprisingly when you accept that bad can happen, you start to feel better and bad thoughts start to diminish which is awesome. The biggest lie you can tell yourself is to say you'll rid of emotions and only have happiness. Happiness in a chaotic beautiful world shouldn't be the goal, but a peace of mind to what ever the world brings is far more valuable

I have multiple sclerosis and experience chronic pain, fatigue, partial paralysis, and cognitive issues. I’ve been meditating for years, and with therapy I’m learning the balance between stoicism, compartmentalism, and denial of self. I still struggle so much, with depression, suicidal ideation, and anxiety.
I want this to be over, but I don’t want to hurt those around me. I’m just so tired.
All I can seek is peace, and wait for a welcomed end.

Thank you so much. My circumstances force me to live with toxic people, I have to put up with their bullshit every day, it's especially hard during quarantine. These practices really help me to get a different perspectives on living with toxic people
