    sir sir sir everyone has a huge respect on you, just because SaNa broke the sentimental link between u and rajini in KABALI a statement like this on him is totally unfair.. it's obvious he is working only with whom he is comfortable with and already proved who he is. wish legends like you should support the nextgen.

    • @lxly869
      @lxly869 8 років тому +3

      guys, why r u taking it is about SaNa. SaNa until Kabali did all low budget films under 5 to 10C and his remuneration would be certainly less than 1C, with this how can he go an spend crores & crores for offshoring his work. Agreed SaNa does his recording in Australia, but he is not the one who started the trend. If you see there are only 4 music directors who gets paid in crores in recent times, ARR,Ilayaraja,Harris & Anirudh and you all can figure out whom SPB sir was talking abt after eliminating the obvious choices.

    • @rahmaniac7049
      @rahmaniac7049 8 років тому +3

      SPB does not hold grudges for not giving him chance to sing for Rajini. Rahman DID not give him the INTRO song in BABA. Shankar Mahadevan rendered it. But see how compassionately SPB has spoken of him, as always.
      Regarding Santhosh. He is a HIGHLY over-rated composer. Some people even think that he is the next big thing after Rahman!
      People seem to be deceived by the NEW SOUNDS he uses thinking that it's great music! Santhosh is doing an excellent job (aided by his Australian team) by juxtaposing modern synth sounds with
      Tamil folk.
      But his melodies are simple ones! Besides, his classical depth is shallow. When Ilaiyaraaja sir's fans tried to condemn Rahman in the 90's, Rahman had rich Carnatic and Hindustani base along with his Western Classical knowledge and synth expertise! That's why, Pudhu Vellai Mazhai, Ennavale, Minsara Poove, Uyire, Hai Rama Yeh Kya Hua etc were born!
      Santhosh's melodies are simple. He hasn't even matched Harris Jayaraj's melodies like 'Vaseegara', Kumari' etc.
      No offense. Santhosh is giving good stuff like 'Manidhi' often. But he is NOT the NEXT great one, like a Raja or Rahman!

    • @cholanraje1410
      @cholanraje1410 6 років тому +2

      To say Santhosh is overrated is either sarcasm or the most mundane thing I have ever heard in my life. I do agree with the fact that his first few melodies are DEFINITELY simpler than Rahman and IR's, and occasionally a bit simpler than they should be, but his instrumentation is above par. For one, he's definitely bolder than Rahman, who will only show his class and full potential when you put him in front of a movie that demands musical talent. The simplicity of SaNa's songs are also what tends to make them more balanced, with the orchestra performing behind them. Listen to the background scores of his most elaborate melodies; you'll find something fresh each time. And if you ask me why he kept those melodies so simple, I could give you many reasons why, like the fact that they make his music so much more HUMMABLE, or the fact that they contrast with the more high-pitched, complex melodies he's starting to walk into today. I can agree with you that a few of his tunes were quite average at the beginning of his career, but looking back on it now, I think they were meant to give way to songs like Potta Kaatil Poovasam and Kaarkuzhal Kadavaiye.
      Unlike Rahman, who experiments alternately and often goes back to his comfort zones for good material, SaNa's soundscape is unpredictable and eclectic. Keep in mind that it also manages to do this while not just being loyal to, but also completely ENHANCING the tone of the film. His BGM adds so much film reviewers feel the need to point that out. Maybe that's also why his songs are occasionally simple. Not to distract, and the effect pays off. And as if that's not enough, you can feel his imprint in each and every one of these weird pieces of music he delivers with each film, he flows in his own music too.
      Now, I have no issue with you being a Rahmaniac. You're telling me Rahman has a richer Carnatic and Hindustani base. You are correct. I think we'd both agree that ARR is more talented than SaNa, and has made more of a legendary imprint on the Tamil film industry. But in your comment, you made one stupid mistake that irked me enough to write this in the first place:
      "People seem to be deceived by the NEW SOUNDS he uses thinking that it's great music!."
      Lemme get this straight, a RAHMAN fan thinks WE'RE the ones getting duped? Have you listened to ARR's latest Tamil songs and most popular recent projects? They're overrated trash. Overrated trash filled with these "NEW SOUNDS" you're talking about, which unlike SaNa's music, stick outta the music like a sore thumb. Aalaporan has a flute coming outta nowhere, some electric guitars that fuck up the flow, and the entire song doesn't sound like a song as much as it does an awkward parade to please Thalapathy's fans as much as possible. The rest of the songs in Mersal are equally incoherent. They're an annoying display of what the public likes best, awkwardly blended together in something that should pleases, but just ends up sounding cheap. The same issue ruined Lingaa. The same issue ruined Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. The soul and emotion we all celebrated Rahman for has been ruined, and it must be because some idiot came along and said "hey, Rahman sir, this is what the modern youth like nowadays, give it a try." You call SaNa's music shallow, but have you listened to the trash that was 2.0?
      And if you ask ARR's fans, they'll say "this is a slow poison, you're not a true music fan, Rahman sir is trying to experiment."
      And that is what makes me like SaNa better than ARR, even if the latter is technically more talented. SaNa does not ruin his own image in the name of commercialism; he keeps his class and depth while managing to flow right in. SaNa does not pathetically try to pander to each and every single one of his fans by making his songs sound like stock music libraries. SaNa manages to experiment without ruining himself. ARR is a better composer, but SaNa, nowadays, is doing better.

    There's no way he could have referred to Santhosh Narayan. Even if he has, some raw melodies with very minimal instruments and mixing like Vazhi Parthirunthean, Aasai oru pulveli, Usuru narambula and a plenty others speak for themselves on Santhosh's ability and musical sense - which in my opinion a lot of current MD's lack.

      Super ji super ji! My respect for your musical sense shot up the sky and is still travelling high after I read your comparison with Harris. I will strongly agree with you, Santhosh's music sense is that of a kindergarten student and his melodies are simple like nursery rhymes. #FACEPALM !

    • @rahmaniac7049
      @rahmaniac7049 8 років тому +1

      My comparison was not with the repetitive staple Harris Jayaraj stuff like 'Amali Thumali', 'Hasili Fisili', 'Akila Akila'. My point is that Santhosh has not done a rich melody like 'Vaseegara', 'Kumari' or 'Idhudhaana'.
      By the way, I am not a Harris Jayaraj nut! Was just making a point here.
      I appreciate your sarcasm. But it did go a little overboard when you claimed to 'agree' with me and then say that his music sense is that of a kindergarten student! In my post I clearly said that he is good, giving occasional beauties like 'Manidhi'. I like his music. But stick to my opinion that, he is grossly over-rated right now.

      +RAHMANIAC இசை புயலின் ரசிகன் Glad you got my sarcasm right. If you've followed him right, you'd have spotted all his timeless melodies like all that he's done with Pradeep - specifically poo avizhum (oru soru padham, Idhu), manasula soora kaathu and so many others. They all are class apart, nothing to do with technology. To summarize, I bet Santhosh is way above in musical sense compared to this gen music directors. Any given day, ARR is a legend, so is IR and MSV. I've never compared Santhosh with legends and Haris is far below Santhosh's musicality, period. If you disagree, I recommend more listening.

    • @rahmaniac7049
      @rahmaniac7049 8 років тому

      Yes, I do understand that you've not compared him with the greats. I was only referring to the others who are doing so of late. Besides, I do agree that melodies like 'Poo Avizhum' are good! But the fact is that they don't have the richness of Rahman's, IR's, MSV's or Vidyasagar's melodies to be considered 'GREAT'. I am trying to make a point here, because there are several others who compare him with Rahman! 'Poo Avizhum', 'Manidhi' etc are good. Manidhi in fact was too good, and I simply loved the 'Yaaro Vanthu Suthanthiram..' portion.

    When the tide of time sweeps, the existing landscape changes. When Illaiyaraja first came into the scene, there were several insults poured by the existing people -Maadu maekaravanga ellam oorilirundhu vandhutanugapa paatu podae (villagers from the country side who are driving cattle, have come now to compose music for movies). The musical landscape changed later.
    When Rahman came, they said he just doing computer music. His music is coming from the computer and he has nothing to do with it :-)! The musical landscape changed yet again and went all the way to Hollywood and Grammys and still the magic continues with Avalum Naanum (AYM).
    Now, with all the other distractions and chaos of life and net connected instant world, a Santhosh Narayanan comes and makes a song like Mogathirai and continues the varied magic through songs like Usuru Narumbuley, the outlandish Mama Dousar, Ding Dong, the haunting Dhesayum Ezhundhaney, the thumping ecelectic Kannamma, Kakidha Kappal, the melancholic depth of Irandhidava, rocking jazzy local Ka Ka Ka Poto, Baroke orchestration of Bongu Kichan, the charming guitar folk moving to disco funk of Sirukki Vaasam and tamil metal of Dhikku Dhikku Sir.
    Santhosh Narayanan has nothing more to prove. He has dared to be different from the existing greats and also brought high quality recording and capturing of the sensitivities of each instrument that he records, including the vocals. Are we to believe that a person who brings such high quality sounds to Tamil music and recording technology does not know music? SPB sir, you were great and you still are and will always be a legend. Please remain so and refrain from making yourself ancient.

      Why are you thinking he is talking about Santosh narayanan? That’s wrong of you.Given his experience he should say what are the mistakes going on in the industry.He has every right to say it.

    26- 27:25 1) Two things that show the characteric of a true admirer of art/music...in SPB sensing the pathos in the music piece that he listened to in a happy song in the film 2) Of the music composer MSV sir, on how he thought through that and created that musical piece to embed the subtle pathos in the happy song... Truly amazing..and inspirational.
