My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 is a 2023 American romantic comedy film written and directed by Nia Vardalos. The third installment in the My Big Fat Greek Wedding franchise, the film stars Vardalos, John Corbett, Louis Mandylor, Elena Kampouris, Gia Carides, Joey Fatone, Lainie Kazan, and Andrea Martin. It is the first entry not to star Michael Constantine (who died in 2021) and Bess Miesler. Filming took place in Athens, Greece, from June 22 to August 10, 2022

Excellent review plus all this stereotyping of Greeks is completely inaccurate in 2023. I'm a Canadian who's been living in Greece for 40 years.

You said it perfectly. As I was watching it felt so off, cringe and had no story. I also felt there was too many scenes where people are talking then it cuts to something entirely differently. Like example: the dad looks at his daughter’s college stuff I guess and then right after Tula and her husband I really don’t remember his name go and look outside like nothing happened… the fact the only story part of the movie happens a hour in about the extra brother is just sad

I love your critique of this film and agree wholeheartedly that the editing was choppy and the plot was all over the place. Plus it was jarring how practically every conflict in this movie was resolved in like five minutes. Seriously this entire movie felt it was rushed and badly put together. Which is ashamed because I consider myself a superfan of this franchise. When I heard they were making another MBFGW film over a year ago, I got so excited and was so looking forward to it. I was expecting it was going to be a Father of the Bride type story but with a lot of family hijinks from the Portakalos clan. This would have allowed the story to come full circle with Paris now getting ready to get married and Toula having to do all the preparation and work to make her daughter's wedding special, and feeling the anxiety of the big day coming up, while also coming to terms with the fact that her daughter is now all grown up and is about to tie the knot with a man she is in love with, just like she did with Ian all those years ago. I know this type of storyline has been done before and would therefore be cliche, but at least the wedding would have been central to the plot rather than being shoehorned in and pointless to the rest of the movie. And I think it would have been a good sendoff to this trilogy of films as I don't think they will be making anymore of these.

I had the exact same thoughts as you when I got out of the theatre. As a Greek girl I actually wanted to like it but it was just bad. A real shame because the first one has a special place in my heart and the second one is somewhat good too.

Multiple people walked out of the movie theatre I was in. It was a pretty bad movie but I actually enjoyed it more than Barbie.

Totally agree with your critique of the movie. I would add that the movie also had Hollywood elitism and so called progressivism in it. The non-binary character was planted there to show the audience that these days transgenders and non-binaries are everywhere around the world. Also in the wedding scene some folks wearing the Palestinian keffiyeh scarf was Hollywood’s way of saying love concurs all even amongst different nationalities and religions. The issue with both of these is that although they are possible they aren’t typical. Last, the comment about allowing the migrants to stay in the empty houses in the village! Problem solved. I thought, who needs the UN when Nia Vardalos can solve all these issues… Did they check to see how the people of Greece, Italy and all countries affected by migrants feel? Do they care what they are really saying? They should never have made the movie.

I really hate the fact I agree with you! First weird thing I picked up on was how both “fathers” pic went to dark. BUT Paris makes it clear it’s been less then one year since the last movie.. wtf..

I Totally agree with you Brandon. My wife and I just suffered through this movie last night. It was in the widest screen auditorium and the two of us were the Only people there! We Loved the first movie and the 2nd one we had seen but actually did not remember a damned thing from but this one? OH MY GOD! I would Not have turned this in for a Film School student project! 11 cuts in less than a minute for just Paris and Aristotle exchanging 2 sentences? That's INSANE! Paul Greengrass used that many cuts in one of the Bourne movies but at least Matt Damon is engaged in hand-to-hand combat! The editing is absolutely Horrible and when they're spreading the father's ashes? You can't see anything! Tom Hanks must have money to throw away and I'm sure Chris Stuckmann could have used 1/10th of this movie's budget to finally finish his own movie. What a shame! I lived in Greece for 4 years while going to high school and I Have been to a Greek island for vacation and it was Nothing like this! Like you I wanted to like this movie but ultimately it was a Very frustrating watch! Yes, I dare say it Sucked 😤

@@BrandoCritic Although this looked more like a commercial for Greece, I don't think their national tourism industry would want to use it to attract any people. Greek people are very warm and generally fun to be around and definitely Not like goats that pull Thor's carriage in Love & Thunder! 😳

Nia should have stuck to just writing and acting in it, get a competent script editor (like the first movie) and director (like, well, the first movie). It needed another six months of writing.

I liked the first two movies, and watched this today on my flight to Greece. After 15 mins, I was about to give up on it, but then realized "this is so bad, it's actually worth watching to see how bad it can be". I watched it at 2.5x speed just to get through it quickly. It was so amateur, that I almost feel like the editing and dialog and randomness and immediate resolution were all intentional, and I'm now considering watching it again with friends here in Greece just to laugh at how many WTF scenes and cuts and non-sequiturs there are. Probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen, but could be a cult classic that people hate-watch for entertainment. Like "The Room".

I saw this last night. Could not believe how bad it was. All humor and subtlety gone. Her boyfriend is named Aristotle. Get it? Because he was a greek philosopher. And also the way that new character kept saying 'Number one' Good lord. This made Paul Blart Mall cop look like an Oscar winner.

I enjoyed the movie after binging the first 2 during the week then seeing the 3rd one. Yeah sure the movie had its issues but I never expected much from it in the first place.

I'm so disappointed...i love the first two movies...I wanted to see a real greek wedding, i wanted Toula actually searching for her father's friends and as an orthodox, i'm disappointed in the urn thing....and the story was all over the place... i wish they wouldn't make this one.felt really rushed

I really liked 1 and I loved number 2. This was just a chore to get through. Like I was full on disappointed. I watched the entire movie so I am justified in what I say. The poor directing skills really do show and this movie feels low budgetted to me. The comedy feels stale which sucks because this movie has great comedy. The thing is, I do agree with one of your points at the end of the video. The absence of Gus and Maria really affected this movie. They really were the centre of all comedy in these movies. And even Mana Yiayia. These characters are gone. This movie felt so disconnected from the first two. It is so strange. This movie really didnt need to exist and I am quite disappointed that they didn't go with the whole idea of Paris getting married.
The worst part is that this movie feels genuine, like it is trying so hard, but fails miserably

I can’t even get through the trailer. I don’t know any Greek mother that acts like the mother in the movie. I don’t even think she’s really Greek. They’re much more pulled back and not like Italian women at all. They also use a lot of suble eye contact and overall more subtle to their opinion. ! They could’ve gone back to the really funny stuff about being Greek but it needs to to be hard-core funny. Banging your head on the ceiling of a plane is not funny. The first movie with her on the bus unknowingly swinging her ass as the bus was moving and the men quietly watching was hilarious. She needs to go back to more subtle hilarious stuff like the names. Remember Poopy Cacas? That was hilarious! And bringing an old journal back to Greece when most Greek men don’t write! I don’t know any old Greek men men that can write English! And if they wrote it in Greek the kids wouldn’t understand it. Whole thing is just lame. Plus most Greeks I know head to Greece every summer.
