  • In this video we are on the way to Benson, AZ from Lordsburg, NM. While we're in Benson I've got to get my solar game on point so I know if I can survive boondocking in the AZ Desert!

I hear the sweet call of the FOAMER in the background.😄

That diesel horn gave me flashbacks to the Amtrak trip

Well, this one got me. One of the memories of my wife that is very vivid to me was when we were coming back from CA and she demanded we stop at "The Thing". She was so happy going into that building and I remember the spring in her step. Thanks for bringing that memory back.

A dear friend of mine grew up at "The Thing". His family owned it. Sadly, my friend "Mike" passed away a few years ago at the young age of 32. RIP Mike.

Most solar panels have a diode built in to prevent power going in them instead of out. It's an easy project to build your own patch box. I went over the top as I was worried about reverse polarity and power levels so big chunky diodes and IP66 connectors.

Nice horn series! Also, thanks for spending more of my money for solar!! 😂

That’s a great stretch of I-10 in eastern AZ!

I am definitely more interested in solar after going to Quartzfest. the lower amp hour draw of my diesel heater, vs my propane heater, makes multi day (week long?) boondocks possible without a gen set. I need to do some testing of my 12 volt refrigerators amp draw.

The Thing stop is like Wall Drug here in South Dakota.

Looks like a fun trip. using miss match solar panels can be a problem. it is the difference volta and amps. blocking diode on each can help but a diode has a small loss. using more than 1 charge controller may be better way to go. I am running more than 1 charge controller on my portable go kit. different panels. I got more charge amps that. I tried and tested each way . sometimes the MC-4 can be different polarity. like the SAE ones can do as well. always check. I got MPPT like that . with Victron MPPT and Bluetooth you can sync more than 1 together onto 1 battery. make a network and they talk to each outher . and the Victron can be different ones as long as same battery . still work and plat together well. with more MPPT controllers you get the max to each group of panels. start putting same panels together can be series then to controller to battery that 1 group. then do a outher and so on. set MPPT to network together and they know same battery . how I do large systems. 73's

That’s a nice smooth camera mate

Did you find the RV park with the ham club on accident or did you have intel?

  • @dougdaniels

Did your re-distribution method need a fused rigrunner type block or would a powerwerx PD-8 type block have worked? I am looking to do something similar and don't necessarily want to spend the money on the rigrunner, but don't want to fry everything either 😮

Those locomotives are on 72V systems, don't get any ideas!

I'm not saying it is aliens but... It's aliens.

  • @MikeandhisAntennas

This is kind of a nightmare of a setup. I mean if you had nothing else... Much better to get the right things to build a capable system than piecing together unmatched solar panels and cheap controllers.
