    If it's ugly and it works, it ain't ugly. Words to live by.

      Happy to share! Weren't you working on converting your van?

    • @don_n5skt

      @@livingforalivingRV Yes, and I do have a lot done towards that but I am thinking of getting a small trailers like KB9VBR has and that would leave the van open for supplies. But I do have a cot and others. I actually tore it down to go to Huntsville.

      I really want a tear drop, but I also like being married. They are fantastic for a weekend for sure, I don't know how it would work in the rain though, no way to cook in the rain other than just hope the awning is good enough.

      @@livingforalivingRV Yes, I get that it is one man but for me that is fine and the van just doesn't have the towing power. And I want to get into a small fixed living situation with some land about. The RV would just be for the occasional trip. One thing Huntsville showed me is that traveling is damn expensive and when I retire I won't have the funds to travel like that. The biggest expense was the hotel stay.

      Mrs TO and I just watched a couple that does a lot of boondocking. They said they were able to stay for the entire year for $545. Lots of different spots in the west. I don't doubt that number based on what I've been seeing. (That's just camping spots, not any other expenses)

    Did you try one of those peppers hanging by the Old Tombstone building? lol
    Nice narration, TO!

      I didn't try one of those old dried out ornaments, but I do love me some peppers ;-)

    That was great . so much to do for fun. it has been a weird year for weather in the US . the west coast getting lots of rain. so much so lake Mead has been going up where in years past going down, but the snow pack this year is down. in the east in NY where I am. not much of a winter . was a few snow storms then a flip. lots of rain . if was snow we would have normal snow fall. even at times this winter Texas was colder then NY . very odd winter . I found some great DC to DC chargers for RV use. can charge as you drive around. and you can set the max amps no to over load the alternator.

      I'm thinking I need a DC to DC Charger so I can charge LifePOs while driving!

    The desert is really cool. Until its not. Like, summertime.
    When I lived in California, some friends would go to BLM land in the Nevada high desert off I-80 to shoot a little match. Even in summer, it was not bad. Fond memories, especially when somebody brought out tannerite. Ah, yes 💥

      "high desert" is a concept I just learned about. Much different place.

    Steve, have you tested the Starlink for energy consumption during a stow mode? Did you have your settings with the dish running with snow melt/heating enabled? I have both of mine with heating enabled (granted one is in New England and the other is on the RV in the Mid-Atlantic), but come late spring they get heating disabled.

    • @livingforalivingRV
      @livingforalivingRV  8 місяців тому

      I've turned off snow/heat now, it wasn't off before. I haven't tested power consumption in stow mode, that might be a cool option if it was pretty near zero (router and DC-DC converter still consume though). Good ideas.

    Would you recommend the Redodo or the Power Queen? Asking with Ham radio in mind as well.

    • @livingforalivingRV
      @livingforalivingRV  8 місяців тому +1

      I have used both on my ham channel and they both work really well. I did a live stream with the redodo at 100w and also running multiple laptops and the lights... 5 hours. The power queen is a mini for factor and will fit nicely in an apache case - which might be it's future. Give them a shot! Discount links in the description.

    You're living the dream every day, Steve. :)
    That Nova is insane, totally illegal here, but normal in the US.😂
    Good info and tips, you're learning every day. Put a timer on that dang Starlink.🕑👍

    • @livingforalivingRV
      @livingforalivingRV  8 місяців тому

      I don't think the Nova is legal, but it could have stayed legal from its original title, even if it couldn't have passed legal if he tried to tag/title it first. I'm sure its a "Chevy C-10 Truck" on the title. Looked like a lot of fun!
