    I don't understand all the electronic stuff, but will say, you are an exceptionally talented funky bassist! Thanks for putting the video up!

    I agree on parallel wiring because it gives a clear and broader range to your sound but at expense of output, so turn up your preamp .

    Hi Adam! Thank you so much for discovering the components that make this classic tone. I've been in search of it for white some time. My buddy has a classic Tobias and It was hard not to steal it from him lol. Anywho, another buddy of mine is building me a custom bass and I want this tone! What should I do when ordering this preamp and pickup configuration? Do I order from Bartolini?

    • @AdamSaylorBass
      @AdamSaylorBass  6 років тому +1

      Otis Williams you can order directly through www.danabgoods.com. They usually have a few of my preamps on the shelf ready to go. If you really want to get that old school Tobias tone, I have since learned that the Bartolini Original Series Quad "bright" pickups are the closest thing you can get to Mike's original voicing. I also learned that there was a quad buffer that Mike used in some of his preamps (which I have since added to my personal setup). Just some stuff to think about haha.

    Hey Adam, I had a pre-Gibson Tobias Classic and I loved that sound. Can I order the preamp you configured to match the old Tobias pre's? Also I have Bartolini Mk1 pickups. Whats your opinion on those? If so please let me know. Love your tone, great job!

    • @AdamSaylorBass

      Bob M Thank you! Yes you can order the same preamp I have, any Bartolini dealer can get it via part #: HRTCT-5.4AP. I believe bestbassgear.com has actually started stocking these. The Mk1 pickups are part of Bartolini's licensed designs, meaning they are a Bartolini design, but manufactured by a third party to allow the mass production quantities needed to fill orders for larger companies like Ibanez and Lakland. I believe they are a split coil configuration similar to what Mike uses in his American MTD's. All that to say...if you like the tone, great! There's nothing wrong with them. If not, Bartolini does offer other pickups in the Mk sizes. It all comes down to preference.

      Adam, I got my bass converted and it is multiple times better than it ever was. I used your preamp and Bart MK5 instead of the MK1. It sounds very near to my pre gibson tobias classic. With the bass and my TC Electronic RH750, both with no boost or cut, sounds great. Now I can take this bass on stage and not my higher end basses. Great work on the pre and thanks for the help. Bob

    Nice Tone finally somebody that can’t get a nice sound.Trying to decided if I want ta go with the Yamaha 1006 or a MTB? What’s you opinion. I’d like to Chase your sound.

      Those TRB's are great basses. Honestly, the pickups in those are fairly similar to the ones that Mike uses in his handmade basses. Put a better pre in there and you'd be good to go 👌🏼

    Adam, great video and great tone! Does the Hipshot vintage bridge use the same 4 mounting holes in the rear as the stock MTD bridge? Also, does it completely cover the two front holes? Thanks and keep up the great work! Johnny

    • @AdamSaylorBass
      @AdamSaylorBass  6 років тому

      carvinbas the answer to both of your questions is yes. It is worth noting that, while all the holes are covered, the vintage style bridge has a smaller overall footprint than the stock MTD bridge and therefore you may still see remaining indentations/finish marks from the old bridge.

      Adam Saylor Awesome and thank you! Looks like I’ll return the MTD B style I got from Dana B Goods and have them send me a vintage. Really don’t want to even add more holes to the body!

    Hello Adam I have a KZ 4 what do you think i have to do FIRST;;; Change the pream or change the pickups?? Thanks

    • @AdamSaylorBass
      @AdamSaylorBass  5 років тому

      Honestly, I would do a preamp first. That way you can get more versatility in your tone shaping ability (as well as probably a higher output) and see where you are.

    How do you add center clicks?

    • @AdamSaylorBass
      @AdamSaylorBass  6 років тому

      Joshua Ryan by using "center detented" potentiometers 😉.

      @joshuaryan143 6 років тому

      Adam Saylor Might be a rookie question. I’ve got one of these coming to me, via your reference. So the pots that are stock aren’t center detented?

    • @AdamSaylorBass
      @AdamSaylorBass  6 років тому

      Joshua Ryan if you ordered my HRTCT-5.4AP preamp then it will/should come setup exactly the same way as mine 😁.

    First of all, no paint where the bridge contacts the body.

    Two of my bass guitars have the mk 1, not a fan too boomy on top too weak, thin, quiet on the bottom no matter what I do with the eq.That's part of the reason I'm leaving Ibanez, even the higher end norstrand do that you have to get into the mk3 level to get definition and if your spending that much why have Ibanez when you can have MTD.

    • @AdamSaylorBass
      @AdamSaylorBass  6 років тому +2

      Cliff Kindred the Bartolini Mk1 pickups are a licensed product, meaning it's a design of Bartolini's that is made overseas by another manufacturer. I do know that Ibanez reverses the pickups (bridge pickup in neck position and vice versa) for a more "aggressive" sound. Many people have good success with a US Bartolini preamp paired with the Mk1 pickups.
