Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

The first episode does everything it can to get you on Walt’s side. Then the rest of the show is a test to see how far you’ll go with him.
i'm terrible, i stuck with him even after the finale

Walt all the way ova here.
-he knew how much to poison brock
-he knew the explosion blast would be contained in a room
-Gus and Walt would've gotten along just fine without Jesse
-he loved his family, he just thought he was smart enough to figure out how to not endanger them
-he still had humanity in him to save Jesse, tho he was really a terrible partner and responsible for hanks death
A weird type of confidence where there is still an overwhelming presence of insecurity.

Also Tony Soprano...

I’d say on a top 10 of people who fit that description he’d be 1. Tony soprano a close second. Marlo stanfield up there too.
Yes indeed, a villain, I think that there’re a lot of Breaking Bad fans that don’t want to look at it that way, but Walter is definitely a villain or rather a very evil protagonist.

Breaking bad is one of the greatest shows of all time! I love it so much
Agreed! I cannot think of a show that had so much growth and evolution of both story and characters. The Sopranos is that way, too. Pretty great company.
Breaking Bad mid, BCS clears
Game of Thrones could have rivaled it if it wouldnt have become so bad later on and then ended in such a cataclystically bad finale that it literally wiped out the entire internet legacy of the show. Nobody cares about it anymore, nobody speaks about it anymore (kindly). Yet, with BB and BCS people still talk about it and love it years later.

6:10 that's the saddest part for Mike, was the fact out all these moments he's cheated death, outsmarted so many people and did it all without seeing the bars of a cell... Just to have his guard dropped.
Another thing I love about this show is that with all those moments the show lets you decide when Walter becomes Heisenberg.
This is the moment where Walter becomes Waltuh
The Walter and Hank scene with Heisenberg was Truely the best
I love how there’s never a bad time for a chemistry lecture according to Walt
In the first scene, he actually pulled the trigger. In a way, he's already dead from then on.
the “I don’t know who i’m talking to” after Walter looks at him like that shows how much he’s changed perfectly
Thanks for putting these clips in order!!
Walter decided to "apply" himself to becoming Heisenberg.
I know it's talked about a lot, but can we take a moment to appreciate Bryan Cranston's acting at 12:13? At first he makes Walter make a concerned face, as if he's trying to make it seem like he cares for Jesse's suffering, but then the concern fades away from his face as he confesses to what he did and by the end his face is downright spiteful.
I love how Mike states everything was fine with Gus when, in reality, Gus would have eventually had him killed too
i think gene was kind of based off of how walt lived in his pre-cancer days, even down to the moustache, a very talented (albeit very different talents) man basically stuck in a cage of his own poor decision making (leaving gretchen and grey matter for walt, falling back into his scamming addiction and everything that happened because of it for gene), both were immensely miserable, i think if BCS was made before BB, BB could have been more about Walt's grey matter days and how he ended up splitting off
I think that Walter has a problem that many men have
They start out with having low confidence due to not valueing themselves enough. And instead of trying to work on your self-perception, some just work on their outer appearence, working on the symptoms instead of the root cause. This just makes the insecurities stronger and a lot more dangerous
Very solid insight if you ask me.
True
it's not really increasingly when you put all episodes out of any sort of chronological order. It's just random levels of confidence spread across episodes
Facts. It made no sense to do this whatsoever, yet they did lol
I still have every season of breaking bad on DVD. I re-watch the whole show atleast once a year. Sopranos to.
I loved the part where Walt started shifting in and out of dimensions in the first episode
the confidence was just a side product of much more sinister traits
as soon as Walt said “Phosphine Gas” in episode 1, calling back to what Hank said earlier in the episode, I knew this show was going to be a masterpiece
No stay out of my territory scene? Feel like that definitely belonged in this compilation
Minus the gun, you could easily put the first scene into Malcolm in the middle and nobody would even notice. Gotta love Bryan Cranston.
His negotiations with people are pretty good examples of his confidence as well. Asking Tuco for money that he believes was already his, making Tuco buy more product after coming out short with a batch, most of his conversations with Gus 😂, and even telling Jack about how he needs something done but is he even talking to the right person?
No other actor could’ve played this role better than him
walt never forgave jesse for making him miss his daughter's birth.
I know the glitch was probably unintentional at 0:56, but that was some damn good foreshadowing lol

I love how the firemen didn't stop to see if he was ok. They see a crashed RV, and a nerd with not pants and a gun and all they think is "just another day in Albuquerque"
1:12 that firefighter was admiring the goods
One of the best protag developments of all time
Walt just decided to burn the world down after his diagnosis he felt like if he couldn’t live no one else should either.
Pure perfection! Nothing touches the brilliance of Breaking Bad. I am grateful that we have this masterpiece.
I was with Walt through the whole story and wanted him to have some sort of happy ending, from the first minute he's told he will die he starts to change and really start to think about how he has been screwed over time and again I think the average person in that situation would at least greatly consider acting out in some way through sheer frustration
I think the "Say my name" scene was peak Heisenberg. That's when he was at the top of his game and about to create the empire that he'd long been dreaming of.
I remember I was about halfway through Season 1 and I happened to see a DVD cover of Season 4 at a store. He looked so menacing compared to where he started out, I was shook
13:34 This is the moment that Walt -
Be right back someone’s knocking at the door
Bro, are you alive????
We all have an inner Heisenberg with all the confidence in the world.
Being decent and social standards as well as fear of incarceration is what keeps that inner Heisenberg from coming out.
As you see in Walt the cancer and thinking he will die at any moment loosens that fear of going to jail or anything else. In his mind who cares I’ll be dead soon anyways.
felt more like "some random scenes of walt becoming heisenberg - no cronologycal"
just proves that with confidence you can go anywhere, Walt was a push over and didn't like conflict, great character built over seasons
Gotta live the moment when he said "It's breaking bad time " and proceed to call Saul
Then Saul sauled all over the place and Gus started making out with Mike passionately after getting the product from Walt
ok
The show was brilliant in casting him. Not only because of his acting but because for most of the first season most of us pictured him as Hal, the bumbling, harmless type of comedy character... So for many of us the transformation was from Hal to Heisenburg... Including the frequent use of tighty whiteys which was also a Hal thing. It just made it more drastic than if he had cast as someone from a drama or more serious role.
You forgot the tuco mercury fulminate scene. That definitely came before Gus and he was already quite confident when he got to him.
Can you imagine working on the show during that hank and Walt confrontation? Or directing or just being there in general? I can just imagine anyone who saw that at the time had to know they were witnessing something special
Ozymandias scene is amazing. I love how walt acts just like Gus with the delivery. Cold. Also the obvious parallel of falling down traumatically crying over a loved one dying and becoming a full on monster.
Walt made it to the beginning of the Gus phase but it was too late.
Walter White walked so Heisenberg could run.
10:30 - 12:52 are some of the best scenes in the show
"Stay out of my territory" will always be a top tier scene for me
the amount of bald character in this show is amazing
Charisma on Command recently did a video called “How to be Fearless under Pressure”, which used Breaking Bad and Walter White as an example.
I wonder if this video was uploaded in response to CoC’s video.

I’m surprised we didn’t see Full Measures in here. He was pretty damn confident when he mowed down those two guys!
I was waiting for “stay out of my territory”
Incredible series! Great waiting, acting and the beautiful scenery of The Land of Enchantment! I could watch this every day. As successful as Breaking Bad was, I don't understand why they didn't continue with it.
Because they finished the story, nothing left to do with it.
Waltuh,put your confident away waltuh...
I'm not destroying your own empire with you right now, Waltuh.
3:01 - Even both are walking free, they're with both hands "in jail". Even Walter says he's not a criminal, he's already so criminal as Gus has been almost his whole entire life.
An overdose of confidence is what killed him on the end
