I am learning SO MUCH! Like... don't get a used Airstream and build it out. Yeah... definitely don't do that. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy watching YOU rebuild an Airstream.
"Now, where to begin? Maybe take a nap and get a beer... That's it."
LOL That's generally my approach, as well. 😅
"Zip, zap, zoop! There is sawdust in my zapatos."
Just want you to know, that I am subscribed to several DIY/builder / carpentry channels, and the reason I like yours so much is because of your goofy personality. I mean, you're incredibly talented as well- but the fun takes your work from an A to an A+. Thank you for being a bright spot in my week! 😊
Taking a nap and getting a beer is the best way to start any project.
Agreed
Using the Rockler clamps to hold vertical pieces was today's best lesson for me.
I always wondered what those weird looking clamps were for?
A million!!?!?!?! Wow. Congratulations you’re definitely very deserving!!
You need a TV show. I was hoping Magnolia would see that. Best content and wood working channel.
Not a good idea - you will lose editorial control, have to perform to a fixed schedule and introduce a level of drama that is not your style. Plus you will have to replace your foreman with an actor because he is under-age!
if its not too late, put the insulation under the water pipes so they are on the warm interior
I was thinking the same thing. The pex was resting on top of the metal wheel wells. Being pex it’s less likely to burst, but still not good to have frozen.
Congratulations Jason, I see a big 1M for the channel. Definitely one of the best, most entertaining, and informative channels on UA-cam.
It's so nice, as someone who had to renovate an RV without experience, to watch someone else document their experience so honestly.... schadenfreude for sure. Also... ratchet crimps for PEX. OH, and also also.... try and make EVERYTHING removable so you can get to everything later to maintain.
I do not believe I have ever seen a foreman pocket hole machine on the secondary market. People must like them.
Excellent videos, don't forget about balancing the load weight side to side...
After watching you work so hard I had to pour myself a Green Spot. In a shaker filled with ice, combine Green Spot Irish Whiskey, lemon juice, simple syrup, and bitters. Shake until well chilled. Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. It is delicious. The Airstream is really coming together. FYI, Insulate the PEX with pipe insulation.
Great job! Love your videos, the woodworking brought me here, but, production quality and comedy has kept me coming back.
It's been awhile since I said anything, but man I still love that song on your intro, thanks for letting me know about, "Of Men and Wolves"👍
Man I work in a cabinet shop full time, and I build everything getting the door and dresser fronts, to the face frames, and cabinet assembly. Anyhow all that just to say. That's how we do drawer fronts, once they get down where the panel is so small. We do solid drawer fronts. And we do the shaker style on everything else. So you made the right choice my friend! Well at least in my opinion you made the right choice! Take it easy!
I am so enjoying this series. I've missed the Airstream progress the past couple of weeks, and I am excited to see it coming together! Thanks for taking us along on this journey. It is looking great.
A bit late, but I would suggest adding a tiny shelf from the front of the wheel well to the front of that cabinet. It would break the large, awkward space into two smaller, less awkward-to-use spaces (and I think the smaller space looks about right for canned goods).
And for the record, the wallpaper really looks cool. It fits with the retro vibe.
Jason you have the best woodworking channel out there. I look forward to each of your videos. Keep up the great work brother 👍🏻
"Iver is so awesome" Love it.
I like the big projects like the AIrstream and the tree house.
Best opener for the Airstream series.... "A nap and beer"...touched my procrastinating soul!
If weight is critical I would go with a stainless steel sink. Very interesting build.
The wife wants that sink... Not a stainless steel one 🤣
I ran into exact same issue with my kitchen drawer faces. Just made the rails narrower than the stiles on the top row of drawers. It doesn’t look the slightest bit odd. If you didn’t know, you would never notice. Just cut a half inch off the non grooved side of each rail and make a new center panel 1 inch taller. Extra inch in the middle may do the trick. Might be worth making one to see what you think? Enjoying your airstream struggle more than I thought I would. Keep ‘em coming. 👊🏻
We have fairly new shaker-style cabinets in our bathroom and kitchen. In the bathroom the top drawers are smaller than the rest so they have solid drawer fronts, all of the other drawers are big enough to work with shaker style drawer fronts.
the "gray water tank" bit is top tier- 10/10
Love your content. Also, I'm trying to learn from you and other UA-camrs, so for people like me do not be afraid to repeat how you make drawers a thousand times or show little stuff like filling nail holes, etc. You will never bore me.
Questions: Did you first test the waterlines to see if the joints don't leak before enclosing them?
Was going to ask the same question. A quick test might save you many many headaches.
Or that he ever wants to go to a place in the winter and the lines are on the cold side / freeze 😮.
On the bright side, it might lead to a season 2 where he has to do it all from scratch due to water damage.
I was thinking the same, all the caravans I have been in you can access the waterlines and if needed replace the waterlines should they crack in freezing weather.
First thing I would've tested too. That would suck having to undo everything. I would wrap those lines with insulation to prevent freezing, and added the regular fiberglass underneath and above as well.
I love that you're wearing an Andy shirt 😁
I love the wallpaper, I showed my gal pals and they did as well. It just looks so good with the green!
There are dozens of us!
great way to keep from wasting materials too!
As always, enjoyed the video, really enjoying the build. She is a beauty. Also good to see your wife loves the wallpaper and you love her so much you support her in this! Thank you for the series! I do have a question however. Aren't you worried about moisture with all those unprotected plywood sides? Especially in the wheel well where you're running your waterlines? I can't believe you did not use a layer of your favorite epoxy on all the faces, but you never mentioned it.
That wallpaper is so rad!
Your videos are funny, as silly as they are I get a kick out of them. Thanks for being funny, silly and worth watching.
You have good diction for learning English.
I used PEX in our yacht, the push fit fittings are super easy and work great. Thankyou for sharing your knowledge and your videos are going to be a huge help when I start building out our galley
Coming along beautifully!
I LOVE THE WALLPAPER!🎉🎉🎉
You should definitely build your drawers deeper brother. Even if it means that you have to use other rails. In an Airstream you should really use every little gap. And please do a quick test on your waterlines. Keep it on brother💪 you are doing a great job. Love your Channel❤️
Love, love, loving this build.
Thanks Jason! ❤ your videos!
Thank you for chronicling this build; can’t wait for the next video!
Loving this series!
I think the wallpaper is fun and funky and fits your and your wife's styles perfectly!
You are amazing. Love this airstream project.
"take a nap and get a beer" OK, I'm officially hooked!
Loving this series so far. Difficult build, but you are nailing it..👍✔️
Thanks for the great channel. You will need something in addition to a soft close mechanism to keep the drawers closed when moving. A push to open mechanism might help but I think you will want a latch based option. Slam latches from the boat world work the best but they need to mount further into the middle of the door/drawer face than a shaker style will allow. Magnets are a better option than the plastic RV catches. I'm assuming you will want something flush or very low profile for the tight space. Moving the oven over one bay to the right will make cooking easier and give you counter and drawer space by the door which is helpful in my van experience. It would also give access to the water heater by removal of the oven unit rather than pulling the cabinet system as a whole. Also replace the traditional p-trap with a Hepvo inline flap type to save space and simplify the connection.
Wow! I'm learning alot. I do appreciate your videos
Really looking good, bro~! Can't wait to see the finished project~!
Looking forward to part 2. Nice yonsee I'm not alone getting to the end of a project and realizing my final items need to be rethought through
Another great video Jason. It’s really coming together 👍🏼
Hi Jason, you‘re doing a great job including taking a nap and having a beer. Keep your sense of humor. Best regards from Worms, Germany Axel
Thanks for posting your videos in am. It lines up perfectly on my lunch break. 👍
The finger scribe method! 🤯👍🏽
I am loving this so much! Keep it up
Really enjoying this journey
What a great job. I can’t wait to see the finished doors. I might try it myself for our kitchen
Keep up the great work
You are freaking goood! I love watching you work.
Always enjoy your videos! Awesome air stream!
Looks great!
Such a beautiful piece of art. You're such great talent. 👍👍
It's looking good.
Looking very nice.
The cabinets look great. I’m taking your recommendation and trying the rocklar under mount drawer slides
So happy to discover that there is a new airstream video up to enjoy with my morning cup of joe!
Can’t wait for next video, everything looking good
Looking fantastic!! The wallpaper would look good on that skin panel on the end. Keep up the good work.
Excellent series!
One suggestion for a small upgrade, you might want to consider pull outs in the lower cabinets, you could even use more of the paper for the bottoms. That gets you better access to the rear of the cabinets without getting on hands and knees. Even put a notch in the rear of one for the water/drain lines.
Keep it up, so much fun to watch
I like these videos a lot Jason,thanx!!
Keep kickin' ass, human! This is a fantastic project to follow.
I dig the wallpaper. I think it's a nice look.
I really like the wallpaper! 🤩💪
Love all your videos! I was thinking about buying and old airstream and doing the interior. After watching your video I can see its a big project!
Grandma said you gotta let them cookies cool a bit !!!
The cabinets are looking great!!
You’re an absolute legend, it’s coming together amazingly. Look forward to the end result 🤙🏾
ooh was waiting for another episode. Love how shiny that airstreamer is on the outside! great progress, I can imagine the frustration on that curved "wall"
I actually did solid upper drawers and sharker doors in my own kitchen! LOVING your work in this, it's fun watching you adapt around the challenges of doing it in the Airstream vs a home.
Did the same thing. If you're using 1x3's for constructing shaker doors, as Jason found, it looks stupid, proportionally, when you get to drawer fronts.
I love that the "Finger Scribe" technique actually worked. that's awesome.
Haha, "Iver is so awesome." Too funny.
No glue for later access? Wise, man!
And, cannot resist: nap + beer? Well done! Seriously!
Thanks!
I have learned so many woodworking skills after watching your video!
Hey Jason, put your pencil in a small compass and set the widest part of the gap and scribe away
I was thinking you were making the cabinets modular, so you could remove one section if you needed access behind it. But with the face frame glued on, you will need to remove the entire cabinet unit to address a water leak, etc. Having watched a bunch of vanlife builds, the pro tip is to build individual sections.
I was thinking the exact same thing.
Or he could just cut the trim between if he ever needs access
Fully agree , modular is the way to go . After a few builds i now make a full frame and drop the sections in. Really easy to the remove some sections or all in a matter of minutes. Speedy access to the water heater and the plumbing and wiring is a must and well worth the weight trade off.
I've always liked the look of poplar
While not an Airstream, I have a Dyer 29 power boat built in 1981. I will be doing a very similar thing within the next two or three years. Straight cabinets on a curved wall. Thank you! I learned a lot from this video.
Amazing
Any reason to not put the insulation under the pex? Won't it freeze being next to the thin plastic wheel well?
This is giving me anxiety. Jason - I need to know that these lines are not going to freeze while you are driving through Minnesota in February.
@@eubie67 Pex can freeze and not explode 99.9% of the time.. it's pretty forgiving
You could always dry fit the face frame backwards and then mark each joint with matching letters to make alignment easier
I'm curious as to how everything tends to hold up on the road with all the vibrations and such that entails. Looks great though and super fun to watch come together.
I like the wallpaper tbh. It is era appropriate.
Love this build series. Your humor is always a good addition. Keep in mind that this trailer is gonna flex. Bolting stuff to the walls AND the floor might cause issues.
If you're trailer is flexing... You have bigger problems!
I guess you missed the first episode where he sent it off to a repair shop to have it completely restored, wired, and piped for plumbing.
Love your work. Love your sense of humor.
I might have missed something.
In the video, it looked like you put the insulation on top of the water lines.
I am not sure of the layout, but you are supposed to put the water lines on the warm side.
So, it is the insulation than water lines than living space.
Your videos are excellent Jason. Thank you for sharing with us your brilliant, inspiring work and the fun way you share it. I'm a regular follower of yours here in Brazil, thank you very much.
My large kitchen has solid drawer fronts and shaker style cabinets. Looks great. And ... the solid surfaces are a lot easier to clean. Your wife is smart.
Still bloody excellent in my opinion way to go from the UK
Ok, so thanks Magic Spoon for taking Jason inside 😊 I’m not sure you have video on the kitchen cabinets and that COOL patterned wood under the bar area but I am going to look for it, that’s for sure!
Oh I must add, you are such a dork and I love it!!!
Question; Won’t the total boat fixit make it so you can’t take it apart to make a needed repair down the line?
Have you ever tried castle pocket holes? Your quality of work deserves a better pocket hole.
Oh man. I did the same thing on my airstream build with the shaker style, and i went with solid too
Great work Jason! Curves are lovely in the right places 😉, but must be a nightmare when building cabinets!
I love the fact that this build is a complete wright off because your including the build in your business.
Write off. As in, it's deleted from the 'assets' part of the accounting book, written as off the books. And becomes an expense (or an asset amortization, depending on the tax schedule specifics). Apologies for being so pedantic. I definitely do agree that it's pretty cool as a maker to be able to expense some projects that are professional yet will have some personal utility later on!
