I use acrylic mirror for bar back panels because I frequently have to cover odd shapes and the acrylic is a lot more workable than glass mirror (sharp inside corners, etc.) but the trick to longevity and avoiding scratches is to use a ceramic coating, I treat mine with Armor Shield X but just about any of the automotive ceramic coatings will work.

Many many moons ago when i was just a lil boy somewhere in the early 60s, my father used to have a almost similar cabinet with orange in de doors and a mirror on the inside back. The inside was covered with red velvet. That's where also he kept his booze and cigaars. Nice build Jason. I love it.

What I like about your video. You make an informative video and there are no long segments of watching a table saw cut wood. Or an aural assault of router screeches to prove work is being done. You got rid of the noise and chaff and instead had an instructional voice over. Good choice. Thanks.

    Dear Jason,
I believe you may have a drinking "problem". First a whiskey table, and now a whiskey cabinet. If my math is correct, and it always is ;), that's a lot of whiskey. I do believe you may need some help drinking some of that fine whiskey. If I didn't live so darn far away, I'd volunteer to come help you! Beautiful work as always. Now "seriously", enjoy the whiskey AFTER your woodworking is done. 😄

2:32 there is a trick I just learned some weeks ago how you can have 4 of 4 sides continuous grain and connected a board to itself. You cut it to length that it is exactly 2 sides of you self long. After you have done this you split it in two boards which are half as thick as the original. Now you cut the two birds in 2 sides each.

  • @mrkattm

There is a techque that will give you a 4 courner grain match on a box but it does require you to do some resawing, for what it worth.

Just curious, after use, have you noticed any cracks in the magnets? I've found when they're that strong, they're prone to shatter/crack as they smash into each other. Adding a thin veneer/plug in front of them could prevent any damage.

Hi there , I’m a wood worker myself , have you tried to use blue masking tape over your surface and then glue the plywood corners for clamping purposes over the blue tape instead of doing it directly to the wood ?
It removes way easier literally all you have to do is remove blue tape and no residual is left behind in your hood wood . 😊

One thing I would've done differently is I would've put lights to the back in front of the mirrors and left the doors without the backplate so the lights would've made the "stars" pop. Plus a controller to change the light colour when the doors open or something could be a nice touch.
Well, technically, I can't say that I would've done it any differently, because I can't build stuff like this to save my life, but you know what I mean... 😅

I have to question the N52 mega magnets that are “the strongest magnets for their size” and my questioning comes from necessity and overkill. You only want the magnet to keep the doors shut not be a chore to pull open. So is it really necessary to use these super strong magnets on a small piece of furniture?
