  • So the mighty Massey is down!! Front hub seal leak caused by where the inner bearing sits being cracked off! In the video ill be stripping it down to remove the broken parts only to find that the king pin bearing is also worn out and in need of replacing, I also take a trip to a breakers yard on the hunt for second hand parts to see if its more cost effective, taking a look at many many parts and tractors! hope you enjoy :)
    Oh and a little talky part about Oli from ‪@snowballengineering‬ if you watch the video Oli let me know what you think!! :)

    Excellent video and really enjoyed looking at the front hub repair. Probably a good job to have used new bits as there should be no element of doubt now and good to know the jobs right👍😉.
    Bleady cheap tools. I could just see that breaker bar giving. Such a shame as money wasted🙁.
    Nice look around John Hedges👍.
    Must be handy that new Rundles depot for Massey parts

      Glad you liked it 👌 I thought I better way had used new parts as its our only loader tractor and the second hand part may not have been far off breaking aswell 🤷‍♂️
      Yes! I don't think I paid much for it which should have been a sign really 🤦‍♂️ not sure how they pass standards like that really 🤷‍♂️
      I must say I enjoyed wondering round sheds of tractor parts! 😂
      They're not that close to me a really, still a 45 minute drive to get there! They're based at Winkleigh, used to have a massey dealer in Barnstaple by the name of Bernard Hancock, but he packed it in afew years ago no!
      Thanks for the positive comments! 😊

      @@seggonscontractors588 I didn’t know where the Winkleigh depot was until a couple of weeks ago but happened to run past there and spotted the sign.
      Bernard was a good guy. Absolutely genius on lister generators apparently and virtually lite up Exmoor years ago!!!. Remember him selling several different makes of tractors over the years including Lamborghini and universal’s

      @kevinmanley2498 I drove straight past it the first time I went 🤦‍♂️ was good to have a look around, they've not finished fitting out the new showroom yet but it looks smart already 👌
      It was the first place I worked at when I left school over the summer, learnt lots and was very keen being a young lad 😂 I think they covered most brands for a while back in the day, always something different in there!!

    The old oil looked very black, is that why the bearings/seals went ?.
    250 hrs max time between oil change, same as engine oil changes. Tractors need greasing every 50 hrs. Done thousands of hrs on loader tractors, never seen axle bearing fail before ????

    • @seggonscontractors588
      @seggonscontractors588  8 місяців тому

      I think the oil was black as a result of the bearing housing having failed, I keep up to date as much as I can with servicing and greasing, it is an older machine any way so stuff is starting to show signs of age, and being the second owner I think the owner previous to us was quite hard on it 🙄 and also as I said in the video I think it's the biggest loader that tractor will take so its under alot of pressure all the time 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ machinery breaks no matter what you do with it 🤦‍♂️😂😂

    Watch out resealing them trimmer motors once seals go usual means motors buggered! They dont usual last long before they blow again.

    • @seggonscontractors588
      @seggonscontractors588  11 місяців тому

      Hopefully I just pumped too much grease in the splined end as the motor was new not that long ago 🤔 time will tell I guess!

    Those trimmer motor seals should be no more than £3 each but if genuine McConnell you probably looking at nearer 10 times that as they aren’t frightened to charge 😡

      I spat my tea out when they told me the price I must say, but as with anything if you want it quickly it's going to cost... and they did come over night 🤷‍♂️ but even so, still pricey!

      It's a very reliable work horse. The only thing I would say is it's a bit light on the back end without a counterweight. If you have a counter weight it's an awesome loader tractor, visibility is great, good hydraulic power, nice gearbox and quite nimble. The only issues we've had are really due to the lack of maintenance from the previous owner. Other things such as the engine damper plate (which you'll hear when stopping the engine), and the switch for the rear linkage playing up are just common things I think. However if the previous owner has been shy of the grease gun like ours was you may need to check the front axle pivot, 4wd front coupler will get slack and the 4wd will bang when you let off the breaks or turn off 4wd, our loader was quite slack but again that's maintenance. Other than usual wear and tear, it's been (and still is) an awesome little loader tractor. It's the sort of tractor you come to in the morning without the fear of "what's going to go wrong today!" 😂 highly recommended for a stockman tractor and not shy of a day's work either!!

    • @seggonscontractors588
      @seggonscontractors588  11 місяців тому

      Yes I know! I did say about it in the video abit later on! Being my own machine, I'm not overly worried about it, I'll just have to keep intop that greasing 😊 like.i said in the video if it was a customers machine, I'd have taken it apart again and replaced the seal, just one of those things that slipped through the net while filming and doing the job itself 🤦‍♂️😂

    • @keithk1246

      And the oil in the hubs are Only filled to half ways ! Set hub at mid point and let the excess out or it'll blow the inner shaft seal where you pressed the drive's in when locating the circlip! 👍
