It would be really nice to think that it did just come down to the rider. Yet to be honest there are many variables. The Yamaha bike is way more developed and finely tuned compared to the Triumph. This race was years ago already so it's pretty impressive. This is at a time where they finally started to figure out the Triumph. Now they are actually being able to stop the Yamaha 1-10 finishes. For a rider to actually do a lot on a very underpowered bike. The rider has to be great, and I mean great. The rider is very good yes, he's one of the greats. Pretty sure this is actually from the 2008 season.
Yeah that makes sense. If it were to be the same exact bike, the obvious answer would be the riders. Having two different brands and also one being a triple and the other being a 4 cylinder, there is variables. I also agree that Yamaha is great. I've always loved yamaha, they do great when it comes to motorcycles in general. I cant say much about triumph because i've never ridden one. I would expect them to be pretty decent because it is a british manufacture after all, but as i've mentioned, i've never ridden one.
Go test ride a 13 675r man so nice. They changed the riding position to be very comfortable yet still aggressive for 13. The older models you leaned on your wrists heavily. I love Yamaha's but mainly the R1. That Crossplane exhaust note is just too good. The 675 also has its own exhaust note. The bike is thinner than most because it's a triple, It also only weights 405 lbs wet. Akrapovic full system will take 18lbs off the bike. :) But Yamaha has been in the lead in superbike for awhile. I'm not 100% up on the 1000cc's since most motorcycle racing you can't watch now... WSBK isn't shown on any channels and AMA just went down to 6 total races for 2014. Yet the Triumphs did very well in the Daytona 200. If you didn't see the race make sure to look up the full race on youtube AMA uploaded it. Triumph also now has a 24/7 call center. So you don't have to worry about parts being harder to find. A guy on 675.net needed a part. The call center at 6pm sent the part overnight and it was at his dealer when they opened at 9am.
stealth1546 6 years later...but I have had two triumph Daytona 675s. I have a 2010 Daytona 675 special edition and LOVE it. Racing around I always beat R6s in the beginning but they definitely have a higher top end which is expected (4s vs 3s). I hope you got the chance to ride a 675 by now! Cheers.
Zalonka I LOVE my 2010 Daytona 675SE. I rode the 765 (very lucky, I know) and the machine was incredible as well. My friend bought it and now I have to drool over it haha. I want an R1 but I don’t think I can ever depart from the triumph because of how narrow and nimble the bike feels.
i love how much thinner the daytona is with 3 cylinders compared to the other 4 cylinder bikes in it's class. it looks so much cleaner, and it's just so damn sexy!
They're very reliable, very fast, just all around awesome machines. The only shortfall is if something goes wrong and you're not a professionally trained mechanic you would almost be better off buying a new bike because parts are so expensive, which is why I have a Yamaha and not a Triumph.
Not dissing the 675 at all. I have an r6 and am buying a 675r next year. But i think the r6 rider defending too much on that turn and a gutsy move by the 675 rider put him ahead for the win. In my opinion, if the r6 rider had kept his speed up around that turn he wouldve taken it. From what i saw he led for most of that clip, the 675 rider just saw an opportunity, took it and it paid off for him. I dont think the win reflected which bike was better. Just my 2 cents
At this point in the race both riders tires are degraded and they're pushing super hard. The remaining grip left within the tires depends on how hard the rider was pushing the bike throughout the race. If you're a demon on the brakes and drive out of each corner aggressively your tires will wear faster. It comes down to tire conservation. You need to know when to push hard and when to conserve your rubber, so that you have grip remaining for final laps such as this.
I love watching guys dual like this with one machine VS the other. BUT, what i would love to see is the pilots switch machines after and dual again (yes i realize this is racing i just meant in general). Just to give a true comparison to the what each machine is capable of, and it also shows who the stronger pilot it. One bike could be the best bike in every aspect but have the weaker pilot on it and still not be able to over take the weaker machine with the stronger pilot. LOL anyways, some one needs to make a video like that, Ill pay cash to see it :P Safe riding mates
You know what i like about this Video. It shows 2 really good racers at their sport playing by the rules and giving it their all. Unlike watching some other motorcycle racers that Surnames start with R. Love it no elbows or BS just pure racing.
If you can get the Gel Seat option (a lot of dealers install this post-sale if you ask nicely) then it's one of the most comfortable bikes to sit on there are, Of course, it's a thin bike and requires a very different posture to the CBR600... But that all depends on the person.
Don't forget the Daytona rider made a bad mistake and was still able to stay with the r6 and win. That's the thing about the 675. It's more forgiving, the extra low down power can help you recover more easily. You don't need to be wringing its neck to get the best power. It's quicker than the r6 in and out the turns also. It's a more agile bike. The r6 is a faster bike in a straight line tho
Yeah no kidding, I saw that too. I was rooting for the 675 out of bias, but the r6 was much more stable. I couldn't tell if it was the rider, the bike or both.
that wasnt the bike, that was the skill level of the rider knowing the track and what the bike is capable of, commiting to the chicane and holding on!!!! still tripple is a great bike and r6 too...
to Iwild04 I know what ya mean I traded my 2010 675 in on a 2011 speed triple. I crashed the speedy. so replaced it with a 675R. so happy to be on a Daytona again. ya have to ride 1 to understand !
exactly...with 3 you'll have the powerband all the way to the redline....but we cant deny r6 has better top end. but its not all about power..its about usable power...that is why triumph took the win :)
Haha, its funny how some people are convinced the triumph is better (obviously they must own a triumph), but the truth is the r6 rider thought he had won the race and didn't take the last turn hard enough. It was purely rider's error, and in this case, it cost him the race. You can easily see how the r6 behaves better than the triumph on the track. Anyone that rides can tell that. The triumph rider was the better rider that day, that's all.
for all those R6 fanboys complaining about it being unfair the daytona has 75cc more, yes, it has one less cylinder and more torque...but what bike was winning the superstock junior tt? oh, that'll be its predecessor the daytona 600, which has 4 cylinders, and still ridden correctly put all the Japanese bikes back in their rice burning place. we could argue all day about whats better whats more fair, but lets face it, its got barely anything to do with the bike itself these days, performance of
idk if it's the rider. well it is, kinda. but i felt like the daytona flicked on the curves easier than the r6. however, the r6 looked more stable and the dayton 675 looked a bit shaky. i'm trying to make up my mind to either get a 2006 cbr60rr or a 2006 dayton675....they say the cbr600rr is more comfortable. nonetheless, i love the daytona 675. which one should i choose?
People thinking that this race was won because of the bike probably didn't watch the video. The rider on the R6 gave up too much on that last turn and the guy on the 675 had more guts a went on the brakes later. These two guys are great riders on great machines in another case the bike might be argued but this race was won on just the racer alone.
all of them is so close that it comes down to the rider more than anything, if it was all about the bike, then i wouldnt be able to embarrass sports bikes on a lowly bandit 600, nor would i be able to leave other sports bikes for dead on my daytona 600, having ridden a fair few different powered bikes, on and off track, the thing that makes a bike truly quick is the rider, and some people are blind to that, on other video had a comment ' da r6 is quicker in da str8s n thats all i care about'
now thats hardly the thinking of someone who's going to be able to push a bike to its full limits and make it round a track in record time, since few races are ever going to be as simple as crack the throttle open and hold on, you may want to start learning how best to use your bikes strengths and overcome its weaknesses, the daytona 600 truly handles better than any other sports 600 on a road than anything else i have come across,
because it was set up for british roads, and ridden by someone who understands this, all the track focused fanboy bikes that are all merging to the same power, speed and geometry will begin to lagg behind in the real world. top speed and acceleration mean absolutely nothing if you dont know how to use them effectively and truly pull everything great about your particular bike into that one moment
@zjets Fair enough, my mistake, and in response to the elbowing and dirty playing, if the stewards let him off I guess he got off. Winning is winning, I agree its wrong to play dirty to win, and I never recall doing things like that to win, but hey, if I was biaggi I woulda appealed that one, but if he got off, he won.
@zjets They are both very talented riders. Yes moto gp fanboys will look down on every "lesser" forms of motorcycle racing, but to go the other way and implying that rossi isn't a talented rider is a bit thick. I think All these guys are really good at what they are paid to do.
@pocheche151 Sorry to break balls, but the r6 has lost many shootouts both track and street from many respected reviewers to the Triumph. And if the rider thought he had won instead of riding to the finish than he shouldn't be racing. On top of all that, these are race machines, nothing at all like you buy from the factory, how they behave is nothing how they would from the dealer, you can't even compare these or judge a winner from the two based on race machines.
honestly it just comes down to who's the better rider.
It would be really nice to think that it did just come down to the rider. Yet to be honest there are many variables. The Yamaha bike is way more developed and finely tuned compared to the Triumph. Love it...People always under estimate the 675, it has plenty of power!
more like rider vs rider
i love how much thinner the daytona is with 3 cylinders compared to the other 4 cylinder bikes in it's class. it looks so much cleaner, and it's just so damn sexy!
After 4 years my 675 still brings a smile to my face
its not what you drive, but how you drive it!
"...unless he can do it this tiAAAAAAEEAAA...."
They're very reliable, very fast, just all around awesome machines. The only shortfall is if something goes wrong and you're not a professionally trained mechanic you would almost be better off buying a new bike because parts are so expensive, which is why I have a Yamaha and not a Triumph.
Epic Triumph win !
Where is the plus 10,000 button?
People like to think the 675 is slowest in class but as an owner of both 675 and 636- I’ll take the 675 all day every day.
I have watched the race about ten million times and I still get goose bumps !!!!
Not dissing the 675 at all. I have an r6 and am buying a 675r next year. But i think the r6 rider defending too much on that turn and a gutsy move by the 675 rider put him ahead for the win. yes but i dont see your 675r anywhere, did you actually buy it lol
@@halfhalfsg Lol naw went from an r6 to another r6

I've been saving for the 675r can't wait
Mine to.Absolute love it. The sound the engine the handling.Brilliant.

and now may 5 2014 triumph daytona wins again on bsb supersport 600cc class check it out guys really fun to watch
675 smiles an hour :)
Never seen anyone overtake around the outside at Lodge before - awesome!!!
OMG fantastic race, another Triumph for the Daytona!. I think I will go for a ride on my 675 now!...
That Triumph is all over the place!
If you can get the Gel Seat option (a lot of dealers install this post-sale if you ask nicely) then it's one of the most comfortable bikes to sit on there are,
Of course, it's a thin bike and requires a very different posture to the CBR600... But that all depends on the person.
That triumph 3 cylinder engine has a lot of mid power. Makes it the ideal bike for peeking around corners.
Yeah, the 675 had torque all over the range. I imagine the new 765 in Moto2 is even better.
GREAT RACE!!!! CLASSIC! That is pure excitement and exhilaration and skill! TRIUMPH ftw!!!! I miss my 675.
wow that was a great race. triumph looked a little loose in the rear on a few of those corners...
dont get me wrong i love Japanese bikes, but its so nice to see someone else win races for a change haha
1:40 is the only 10 seconds you need. 1:45 best sound from color commentary
You need the build up.
that was quite exciting, best race I've ever seen
As good as any MotoGP race I've ever seen!
Yeah no kidding, I saw that too.
I was rooting for the 675 out of bias, but the r6 was much more stable. I couldn't tell if it was the rider, the bike or both.
"GO YOUR OWN WAY" ~ TRIUMPH !
@MustLovePoop It's the announcers that really fill it out, funny as hell. Now I will ride the Triumph today even though it's only 33 for a high, LOL.
just drove my new daytona 675 home today :)
My lord this was exciting to watch.
Hate a Yamaha, but he definitely let the Triumph around
that wasnt the bike, that was the skill level of the rider knowing the track and what the bike is capable of, commiting to the chicane and holding on!!!! still tripple is a great bike and r6 too...
Great riding, but he is sitting so straight up. It reminds me a bit of Norifume Abe. Damn, I miss that guy...
STILL AWESOME in 2017 :D
Still awesome in 2021... 😍 Bae-tona 675
to Iwild04 I know what ya mean I traded my 2010 675 in on a 2011 speed triple. I crashed the speedy. so replaced it with a 675R. so happy to be on a Daytona again. ya have to ride 1 to understand !
Its not the Triumph that won..its the rider! seriously this was all riding skills!
That's always the case, the bikes are so similar it's about riders skill rather than bike.
like r6 guys let it go on throttle in the end!! r6 definitely looked more stable n powerful on straight
exactly...with 3 you'll have the powerband all the way to the redline....but we cant deny r6 has better top end.
but its not all about power..its about usable power...that is why triumph took the win :)
that was really exciting to watch!
Triumph 675 wiins !!
Eh, its alright. I'd say a Street Triple is better. The riding position lends itself far more to learning to ride than a supersport does.

Wow i have been living under a fucking rock. Where can i find this on t.v. in the U.S.?!!
idk if it's the rider. well it is, kinda. but i felt like the daytona flicked on the curves easier than the r6. however, the r6 looked more stable and the dayton 675 looked a bit shaky. i'm trying to make up my mind to either get a 2006 cbr60rr or a 2006 dayton675....they say the cbr600rr is more comfortable. nonetheless, i love the daytona 675. which one should i choose?
Fuck yeah! Proof that its not all about the top end! And the rider dictates the outcome more than the bike itself
People thinking that this race was won because of the bike probably didn't watch the video. The rider on the R6 gave up too much on that last turn and the guy on the 675 had more guts a went on the brakes later. These two guys are great riders on great machines in another case the bike might be argued but this race was won on just the racer alone.
the r6 talks and responds to your commands, while the 675 fucking yells at you with that screaming exhaust
Is it reliable?
Sempre vejo esse vídeo ✌🏻
won the race LIKE A BOSS!
Yamaha rider clearly took a dive.
all of them is so close that it comes down to the rider more than anything, if it was all about the bike, then i wouldnt be able to embarrass sports bikes on a lowly bandit 600, nor would i be able to leave other sports bikes for dead on my daytona 600, having ridden a fair few different powered bikes, on and off track, the thing that makes a bike truly quick is the rider, and some people are blind to that, on other video had a comment ' da r6 is quicker in da str8s n thats all i care about'
Sorry guys.Daytona 675 is the best. Raced with both bikes and I say Id take the 675 any day of the week. Better handling awsome engine.
now thats hardly the thinking of someone who's going to be able to push a bike to its full limits and make it round a track in record time, since few races are ever going to be as simple as crack the throttle open and hold on, you may want to start learning how best to use your bikes strengths and overcome its weaknesses, the daytona 600 truly handles better than any other sports 600 on a road than anything else i have come across,
Awesome rider with awesome Machine!
Great ride Glenn Richards!
How come the triumph is having trouble with traction and not the r6? That triumph's back tire was all over the place.
Vary crazy boys! Very Bealtifull race!
because it was set up for british roads, and ridden by someone who understands this, all the track focused fanboy bikes that are all merging to the same power, speed and geometry will begin to lagg behind in the real world. top speed and acceleration mean absolutely nothing if you dont know how to use them effectively and truly pull everything great about your particular bike into that one moment
I DAMN WELL FUCKING LOVE THE 675!
destined2sleep I know i love my 675
Great call boys !!
I'd love to know how he did this. I'm a beginner rider so I have no clue what they're doing 😂
WOW now that is racing.
Great fight.
still gives me goosebumps!!
@zjets Fair enough, my mistake, and in response to the elbowing and dirty playing, if the stewards let him off I guess he got off. Winning is winning, I agree its wrong to play dirty to win, and I never recall doing things like that to win, but hey, if I was biaggi I woulda appealed that one, but if he got off, he won.
round the outside! triumph is the BOSS
there both great bikes lengendry riders and thats was wonderfull to watch
r6 sounds like f1 v8 and triumph f1 old v6 turbo
triumph,please make a 1000cc supersport bike...
That is RACING!
SUPERB!!
@zjets They are both very talented riders. Yes moto gp fanboys will look down on every "lesser" forms of motorcycle racing, but to go the other way and implying that rossi isn't a talented rider is a bit thick. I think All these guys are really good at what they are paid to do.
Freaking amazing!
GOOOO TRIUMPH ynyone else think triumph should make a 1000 daytona
hell you know he started humming at 01:44 to the end of the race...
@tosgem The R6 has one more cylinder remember? It is plenty fair. If the Triple was 600cc it would be unfair.
I don't think I'd call these guys pilots. I think they are riders. Pilots fly airplanes and helicopters.
Epic duel Oo
Unbelievable.
wow, what a rider
The r6 let the Daytona pass, he could’ve blocked him out but it wouldn’t have ended well for the Daytona.
its the rider that makes the bike win
daytona best bike ever.i have this bike.best sound best accelrate.very quick move.
@pocheche151 Sorry to break balls, but the r6 has lost many shootouts both track and street from many respected reviewers to the Triumph. MAD!!!!!!!!! GO DAYTONA!! QUICKY!!
Triumphgasm!
@FrontPlayer01 he miss the "like" button :)
Daytona ruuuuuuulesss !! Owned !!
MINE TOO!!!
What the hack is wrong with the one that dislikes this race?!
all about the rider not the bike.
