When passing you want to consider the trajectory of the person you are passing and how your trajectory will line up with them. On most of your outside passes you are doing it on the apex where both of your trajectories come together at the edge of the track. Instead try turning in a little later, squaring off the corner diving up the inside on corner exit. Then your trajectories are going away from each other.
Conversely if you try passing on corner entry you need to either get it done early or pass on the outside. An inside pass late on corner entry will have you both fighting for the apex and your trajectories will intersect.

Wow. That was a spectacular track day. Probably one of the few videos on the net where I could see the differences between the R6 and the 675R. Both are amazing machines and are even better with you on them. Loved the video brother. Cheers! 😊

Perfect video at the perfect time! I am trying to decide between the R6 and the 675R right now, there weren't any good videos comparing the two, and your video came up the day before i decided on the bike. Even though you recommended the R6 as the better track weapon, I have decided on the 675R as my daily rider and weekend track day bike. I am upgrading from a Honda CBR500R. Thanks for the great video, keep up the awesome work.

warlock111395 I did the same, so happy that upgraded. ib has great videos so I can see why r6 has the potential. but the torque on the 675 makes more round for every day use.

I finally bought a Triumph Daytona 675 2016 model after having the 1st generation 675 2006 model also a Suzuki Gsxr 750 in between and can say my new Triumph is by far the best motorcycle I have ridden out of all 3. Here's to happy miles with smiles 🏍️🏍️ all thanks to your videos 650ib. Keep up the good fun with these videos 🏍️🏍️

just 1 tip for you Ib try not to get on the gas until you can see the exit of the corner. It seems like especially on the r6 you're too eager to get on the throttle and keep giving a bit then backing off and giving and backing off then after you get the bike turned and are at the apex you apply the correct amount of throttle to make the exit. This upsets the bike's chassis and can make it unstable. Try using a bit more corner speed going in and flow the bike around the bend rather than using a litre bike style of getting it stopped hard, turn in and blast out of the apex squaring the corners off. I know it must be hard seen as most of your bikes are 200 hp litre bikes and require to be ridden that way but you will gain time by being smoother and more flowing on the 600cc bikes (i.e go wide on entry and carry the speed around the bends more, then smoothly apply the power progressively until you reach full throttle.)

Just turn off the abs on the triumph, then she brakes better.
In contrast to the R6, the Daytona has Brembo Monoblocks which are one of the best brakes you can get.
Im sure if he renew the brakefluid, it would change the game ☝

Getting an FZ6 for the street, and an R6 for the track. Still love my tuned 47HP R3 on the street, and can’t wait to rip around the track on it. My buddies have clapped out 600’s and always talk about how fast they are, only in the straights, I keep up with em on an R3 in the corners.

650Ib...If you like the way the all new R6 or Triumphs 675R for the way they ride on track....You then need to try out Suzuki's cheap GSX-R 750, the 2004/2005 or 2011 model for the track, I'd recommend to you also, you try out Yamaha's YZF R7 but at $23,994 "Starting Price" with them now being very collectable bikes. You'd be lucky to see one, let alone ride one,......But definitely would recommend to you, Suzuki's GSX -R750 for its nimbleness, power to weight ratio, renowned track manners....making it a real steal "cheap" to be owned/used as a track bike weapon. Great vid btw!.....ride safe!

  • @EnjoyTheRideMC

I was going to say something a little different, kind of opposite actually of what someone else said. I was going to say to start adding throttle earlier, but turn the throttle more slowly and continuously through the turn(don't ask for power all at once, like you are doing all over the place in the video).
As soon as your bike's lean angle is set for the corner, that's your moment to start turning the throttle. Give up a little bit of speed on the entry so you are not scaring yourself by charging in too fast. Cuz everything after that is just a helmet fire of confusion and a mess of reactions to survive the corner. You are using a bunch of energy, and you're going slower to boot. The track is coming at you, rather than you riding the track.
The old proverb holds true, "Go Slow to Go Fast." because going slow, means you are smooth, and smooth is safe, and a side effect of all that is... you guessed it.... you are also fast.
So again, You'll be smoother and more settled, and also faster through the corner and exit, meaning you'll also have a higher speed on the straights as a result too.
1 final tip, if you are going through a bumpy section and it is effecting your throttle input, try might try to get some stability by resting your index finger on your brake lever. Its a lot harder for bumps to jerk your throttle input around that way. Not everyone does it, but its helped me over the years.
Listen to that lady's bike as she rides... she's not jumping on and off the throttle nearly as much, and she just drives away from you through the corner exit and beyond. Its not about the horsepower when the road isn't a long straight.
Love track days too. Nobody ever just arrives, its a lifetime of learning to ride better. Enjoy the journey! Remember, its a track day, not a race day, as we all have to go to work in the morning. We are responsible for the safety of the person in front of us, especially if we are setting up to pass them.
    ETR

You kept shifting before the Yamaha's power band initiated. As someone who rides Kawasaki, this is what I like a their engine because it rewards skilled riders. Crazy part about it is, many people buy Yamaha for street and aren't "racers" which almost defeats the purpose of selecting the bike to begin with. Another thing thats crazy to me is the fact many Yamaha riders don't understand how the engine produces it's power. Especially when it comes how harnessing it. Perhaps it's an "american" thing or something. Ninja 636 running both of those bikes all day. However, if you get the R6 please get it in blue.

You are talking up the yamaha. But you seemed a lot more confident on the triumph i.e. were riding it harder. But also more than that if you listen to the engine your throttle use on the 675 was a lot cleaner. The R6 was very jerky in comparison. Your braking for a number of the turn is very early which is why those marshals went past you so quickly. Not so much to do with the extra power. Though it obviously helped them on the straights :D. Either way, love seeing you promote track days. I worry more and more bikers will turn into highway racers and will fall victim to its dangers.

+Aidan B Thanks for the compliment. Yes, future track day videos will have interaction with others. This one was focused on the new R6 vs 675R.

Mmmm... can't help but think you're a little biased towards the manufacturer that provided the free bike ;)
I've ridden both bikes and 675 seems far superior, even when you compare the standard versions. It's not only the extra power that helps but the torque from the Triple engine is sublime.
If the Brembo's on the Triumph are not performing, try some new pads and that should help.

You did an ECU flash on the Daytona? How? I was under the impression that the 3rd gens weren't unlocked yet. I did a PCV and Ignition Module on my '14 675R but would have preferred something other than a piggyback system. Hope to see you at Mid-O soon man, gonna be a great season once this weather breaks. Spent all day watching track day vids...

Ib, if you're gonna pass, it's better to let the slower riders keep the line, so that they can learn and stay on the lines. As a more advanced rider, you want slower riders to be consistent and predictable, and they can do that easier if they can trust the best lines and ride at a speed that's more comfortable to them (tell them, too). So, let them have the inside going into a corner and the outside coming out...safer for you, too, in case they run wide.
Not to take anything away from her skills, but that 750 is a PROPER supersport - my fav all-rounder.

Passing on the outside of a corner exit is liable to end with you and your bike squeezed off the edge of the track regardless of skill level. It'll be your fault and the rider in front won't even know you were there. Passing something more powerful pretty much means using the brakes, entry speed, or mid-corner speed if the other rider is competent.
Respect for less skilled riders aside it's a risky move unless you have a really good, confident read on where the rider in front is headed.

BTrain5489 BTrain5489 Yup, but skilled, competitive riders can do it. You can see in the video, multiple times, Ib passes on the outside and especially when the Ducati squeezes him out, as you point out. And, I don't think he slowed because he got spooked, I think he slowed because of the track hazard. To be fair, Ib's not the only one who does it in this group. It IS tempting to pass on the outside because it's the line that lets you carry the most speed.
