    On the World Block, I misspoke. I had to grind to clear the counterweight, not the rod bolt.

    The world products block is actually a Bill Mitchell Products block. Bill Mitchell took over the World products aluminum block production and updated tooling and changed foundries for production. I was a distributor for world products which os what it was called in the late 80s. The Dart Senior heads with larger intake valves were really the only high flow aftermarket heads available for the 5.0 at the time besides the alan root head. Then came the 1.94 valved juniors. Built plenty of 5.0 mustangs using the Dart Sr. Head at my autoparts store/speed shop at the time. Excellent products. Love your channel and all your videos. Most thorough videos and explanations out there.

    This was a great video; very informative and interesting. You really kept my attention. Especially for a guy who has no interest in Fords! :)

    I like the longer cylinders and ease of restricting the oil to the top end of the World block. More and more people seem to be moving toward the World blocks.

    RPM PERFORMANCE makes a really good racing ford block , i think they made a couple hundred blocks of the 351w and a alluminum one also then the guys sold the castings to speedmaster and well you can guess where it went from there but i bought one from them and my racing machine shop said it was a very outstanding piece good for 1500hp all billet 4 bolt splayed mains , simese bores.

    Good comparison between these blocks…I would be happy with both however, I prefer the Dart for its design. Currently my 347 Clevor is a Factory Mexican block.Next build will be the Dart.
    Thanks Brent, very informative video as per usual.

    Thanks for doing this. I've always liked the SHP blocks aa little better, because of the more ease of machining for clearances. I definitely wouldn't turn down either of them, though.

    How does the Ford Racing Boss block compare to these blocks?

    • @TheRdub82
      @TheRdub82 Місяць тому +2

      Good question, I have a 9.5 deck Boss 351 standard bore block for my 408W. Bought it back in'09 when they were new. My understanding is that most engine builders prefer the Dart SHP, which is there entry level block. Dollar for dollar I'd run the SHP over the Boss 302 or 351.

      @@TheRdub82from what I recall, the Ford boss blocks can’t be bored out too much.but it is made with CGI . Compact graphite iron. Same as the 6.7L powerstroke.

    It's odd that world didn't put a plug in the front drivers oil gallery, we always drill the plug with a .032" hole to oil the distributor gear.

    • @gordowg1wg145
      @gordowg1wg145 Місяць тому +1

      Excellent recommendation! Especially as there are huge loads on it/them with high lift cam's with a lot of valve spring force!
      With some engines I expect this won't be quite as easy, so perhaps drilled and tapped to take a line to a suitably designed squirter" that will feed that critical part?

    Nice for the billet steel flat tappet camshaft do you still have to break it in like a regular flat tappet or what's the deal running billet and why instead of roller

    Thanks for making this 📹 video. What oil pans do you use to clear 4 bolt main caps 1&5? We ran an Aviaid dry sump 4" flat pan on my 430 Windsor Iron Eagle block. We had to do some massaging on the pan for sure!

    • @lykinsmotorsports
      @lykinsmotorsports  Місяць тому +2

      Moroso/Kevko. You had to massage the Aviaid, because they don't even fit the box they come in.

    Dang. Watching this and your information about the oil restrictors. I am helping a friend build a stout Clevor. He got the block used but new still in the pallet box. This is the first I'm hearing about the restrictors. He is using a solid 55mm core roller camshaft. I can not find anywhere that sells the specific restrictors mentioned in the instructions. 701808-2 is supposedly the part number. I can find items close but not those exact ones. Do you have any suggestions where I can source a pair?

    • @lykinsmotorsports

      For a World Products block, you can use a Moroso SBC restrictor kit.

    You saying that one engine is a tunnel port bloçk, I was wandering ford came out with a tunnel port head for trans am engine with poor results thus the boss engine came into being. Anyway I've ever seen a set of tunnel port heads , have you? I'd like to see a set.

      Ford Boss blocks have cylinder sleeves that are too short for stroker motors.
      Cylinder sleeves lengths:
      World Products: Too long
      Dart SHP: Just right
      BOSS FRPP: Too short

    After watching a video on how difficult it is to line hone the main bearings on an aluminum block with steel caps, I wonder why aluminum isn't used for the caps as well as the block material. I only say that after seeing SMX billet blocks with aluminum caps.

    Funny, dart sells all the tooling for cast iron heads for the small block Chevy January 2023.
    I think they stopped making cast iron heads for everything.
    At least World has not forsaken us. They are still making cast iron heads.
    But somehow, they can make 2Jz blocks.

    I did not like the cam installed with metal specs in cylinder bores and bottom of the camshafts on both blocks. I would never buy a Lykins built engine after seeing the metal being ignored as though it is OK

    • @lykinsmotorsports
      @lykinsmotorsports  Місяць тому +7

      Good, because I wouldn’t sell you one. There are no metal specks anywhere dude. There may be a little lint from where I had just wiped the cylinders down, but there isn’t any “metal specs”. Thanks for making a judgment across the internet over a video.
