Drum mix tutorial: • Mixing a kick drum for...
Mixed by Chris Ghazel: / redcl0ud22
Glad I could mix this for y’all ✌🏼
EDIT: since people are asking, there's no drum samples or triggers of any kind in this, and everything you hear in video is live audio that I multitracked during the set and mixed later at home
Chris Ghazel the best drum mix I’ve ever heard, no lie. Great job!
Wtffffff this mix is perfect, youre insane.
Just came here from your video about mixing the kick. The entire mix sounds unreal. Sounds more like a studio rather than live show.
@@danielhanslik4112 Thanks man, glad you liked it! Thanks for checking out my mix video too!
This live version is better to listen to than the album !!
This aint no simple fast 2000s metalcore drumming. The pattern, the strokes, the technique, this is straight up a masterpiece
the drum mix ... mama mia
Приятно встретить человека который по настоящему оценил это 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Alex is the powerhouse of the cell now apparently
Wanted to like but….nice.
You can call him mitochondria then 🥂
That China sounds wonderful, but the overall kit is killer. Alex is truly an underated drummer, and SP and underated band. The song is beautiful and the drums in this song are so well written (an played tho)
Mr Str shit is so dry. i love alex’s cymbal choices, definitely fits his playing.
ryan adams what cymbals does he use if u know ?
@@devinhernandez5195 I’ll answer you. As of recently, he’s endorsed by Zildjian, so his cymbal choices have changed, but I can give you all of the cymbals in this video. 16" Meinl Byzance Extra Dry Hats, with a Meinl tambourine on top, 20" Extra Dry Crash, 18" Meinl Classics Custom Dark China I think? If it’s not that, it’s a 20" Byzance Brilliant China. 24" Meinl Byzance Jazz Prototype, then a 22" Meinl Byzance Vintage Crash.
Absolutely
100000-a%
That snare is illegal in 90 percent of the world.
William Taylor it sounds so clean, I love it
One of the fucking realist and funniest comments ever bruh 😂🤙🤙 I fucking feel that
YEP
Are we all Sure this ain’t studio recording over the video
That would explain the cleanliness of the snare
@@loveroflife1438 their front of house guy took a board feed into his DAW and mixed it after the fact. Chris something. Forgot his last name but he has a video about and God damn me if this isn't the thickest sound kit all the way around.
Alex easily has one of the best kits I've ever heard. That snare is incredible
that snare sounded like a gut punch, 10/10 would listen again
yes sirrr 🔥🔥
Dude, this has been sound replaced and is a remix from the live mix haha I I garuntee this is not what the kit sounds like like haha that snare has at least 3 added snare sample layers. Sounds so unnatural lol the whole kit has been sound replaced and there is 0 tone in the Tom's lol I mean it sounds good for sure but it's not the real mix dude haha
Aaron G. 2424 haha lol haha dude lol ha lol lol
@@thehardtruth7704 I mixed this, and all the drums are 100% real
Such a good drummer, its crazy. Underrated af
it's kinda like enabling Unlimited Balance on tony hawk pro skater
LOL I love you kevdad
😂
Kevin Johnson I have never in my life heard an analogy more perfect
Why is this comment so accurate ?
What snare ??
Dude is power. His technique makes his drums sounds amazing
Honestly Alex writes one of the most interesting and fun to play drumparts out of all these prog metalcore bands. He's a very solid drummer.
I need this snare in my life.
Nah that China and their hat with the tambourine combo too
Outside of the obvious--shell material, ply(ies) for wood, diameter and depth; skin ply(for batter/reso[coated/not coated])+muffle accessory+batter/reso tension+chain setup+attack strength=chest boom. This can be achieved on so many snares, that it's truly about setup. Bet you could get your current snare--unless it's a super shallow piccolo--to sound similar.
I hope that doesn't come across condescending, lol, because I totally didn't mean it to if it does. You more than likely know your sh*t. For some reason, your simple comment got my thinking gears turning and I was just thinking out loud, so-to-speak.
I didn't expect a comment from SethDrums here!
His feel and accuracy is just so unique!
That's deep. Everything anyone does is unique. They haven't cloned a human yet as far as I know.
Unique as opposed to derivative you pedant.
Holy mother of ghost notes. honestly, alex is one of the underrated drummers out there
Let me tell y’all what I love about this dude: in a genre that’s usually ruled by double bass, 32nd one-handed single stroke notes on snare, this guy found it just fine to roll with groove, pocket, accuracy, technically rudimentarily amazing. He’s so d-mn good.
This mix is perfect
Hits the snare so hard the snareweight flies off 😂❤️
He is a drumming powerhouse!
Haha I’ve literally TRIED to get my snare weight to come off from just playing the snare and I can’t get it to budge. Dude is a tank.
I didn't even notice! It flies off in the Firstborn drum video too!
That snare sounds like how a McDonald's sprite tastes.
Underrated comment
Spicy
FLATTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Sometimes I go to mcds and just get the sprite. I feel ya brother
why does this make sense?XD
Everything on this kit sounds so huge and low, even the hi-hats. And then the china cuts right through. Insane.
it never ceases to amaze me how big drummers stay so big when they work so hard
The groove from 0:39-0:51 was amazing plus the groove face made it even better
Kent Smith one of the only metal drummers who can actually groove and stay in the pocket (i know there are some other ones, but this guy stands out).
This is honestly some of the cleanest drumming I've ever seen.
I've been in hard-core bands drumming for like 5 years now and this is ridiculous 😧🔥
Confused how this sounds so much better than the studio cut.
I hope Alex and the boys in Silent Planet get more recognition, he is such a groovy and tight drummer.
The last minute is some of THE best drum cam ever recorded. So natural and fluid. Powerful!
Hey. This guy rocks.
Alex Camarena is THE MACHINE
I can't comprehend the PHATNESS of these tasty plays
Jesus man, Alex just keeps getting better. Trilogy is one of his best performances to date.
These guys deserve all the success that's coming to them, and more!
Not only the lyrics, concept, or vibes, but the drum work in this song also absolutely amazing. Together they are an art, this song is fucking amazing!
His playing is smooth. Like butter.
I’ve just gotta say that I saw these guys live in KC in February. Unbelievably incredible show all around, and Alex’s drum sound is so penetrating and sharp live, it’s absolutely surreal.
So consistent and confident with no hesitation in his strokes and just in the flow state. That's where its at!
I just rewatched this video the other day, and it’s crazy how good his writing just flows with the music.
The tension perfection and dampening of that snare head lead to the wildest raw tones I’ve ever heard outside of a marching snare. Shit is amazing.
Gat dang I could watch this man play all day. So smooth but so much power.
Im blown away watching the drummer.
Dude has one of the best live sounding kits I've ever heard.
Those drums sound immaculate
I never comment ever on videos, But jesus Alex is hands a Legend in the making. Such a treat to watch and enjoy his playing. So smooth and precise at the same time.
This sounds like it was recorded in studio. Incredible
Alex is leading the way for this new age of metal. Such a talented drummer.
Saw them for my second time in RVA this tour and I’m patiently waiting for any media from it. This is so clean though I never get tired of watching Alex play. The guy is just too damn good. All around they’re just the nicest people who make the best music
Easily one of the TIGHTEST drummers I've ever seen, so underrated!
Alex is a beast, this drum mix is perfect, so powerfull!
Watched Silent Planet open for August Burns Red last August in ATL,the most impressive thing from the whole concert was his drumming, very talented!
We actually have a couple videos posted from that show!
I was not expecting that! Mad props!
I was at this show, unfortunately the last show ive been too cause of the shutdown. It was a perfect show to endure right before everything went crazy and locked down. They put on a fantastic show.
I know everyone mentions that killer drop, but that chorus is amazing too. The bass compliments it so well.
The talent, the intensity and to whoever mixed this song. Fucking god genius ngl. Literally eargasm
I could watch this on loop all day
He's one of my favorites
Guys you don't even know how much happy I am right now. Love you. Eternally.
The power this guy gives is just insane. Talk about a cardio workout
Such good dynamics and solidity. When I need to feel humbled I watch this dude drum.
Bloody hell he's a pure talented dude.
Alex is such a fucking monster and SUPER underrated as a drummer! I love watching him play so much groove 🔥🔥🔥
Chris killed it on the mix and Alex is just of this world with his drumming
Holy crap Alex THE MAN!
New fan. This is the first video I see of them, of this guy. Man, this is what a Man with POWER feels and looks like! Holy shit what did I just see???
Love every part of this kit
Seriously my favorite sound I've heard in decades. Props to the musicians. Exquisite work!!
Love this guy's drumming so much. I'm telling you rn, he's going to be a household name when talking about drummers soon
My man hit so good on that snare, the snare weight said fuck it and hopped up off that rim 😂
Love the energy love the ghost notes. Dudes pretty solid all around.
I could listen and watch this brut all day
That snare is something else
I had a guardrail experience for this show, so much raw energy and talent. They deserve more attention than they get 🤘🏻
First time hearing these guys through watching this.... i basically came when that breakdown hit OMFG
15/10 would cream my jorts again
Alex is and will always be a God at drums, enough said...
Supper good drummer, I love it. I am also a large drummer. People think we can’t shred, you are awesome, Rock on dude……
Thanks for the view and comment! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Trilogy was so insane. S/o from Chicago. Alex inspires me so much
SOUNDS SO GOOD
that sound.... sick
Best drummer in my heart
He has the X factor!
Great performance, he's a beast of a drummer!
Thanks for watching!
So good man! I remember seeing them live in Ottawa or Montréal a few years ago and at the time I'd never heard of them before. The drummer sat on the drum, he played one little fill and I looked at my brother and we were like: yup. Sometimes you can tell right away with certain musicians but I'm not sure why. He's a stand out drummer
This has to be one of the best kit setups I have seen!
I say damn!! Wow what a performance, and that snare is something else!
How??? How do they play such clean, at such power? Very tight groove. Very articulate!
I saw you guys in Asheville North Carolina in 2016 I believe. You guys are amazing, and Garrett you spoke with me about mental health and ptsd. Thank you for your music and you all are great!
This guy is a monster! The first time I heard "Trilogy" all I could focus on was how insane the drums were. Ps: that breakdown is pure bliss.
He's just that good!
This man is a total beast, excellent arrangements and makes it look so easy!
P.S.: Those ghost-notes, tho...
Haven't heard of this drummer or band til a few hours ago... Sweet sweet project and amazing drummer!
wow, such an amazing drummer!!!
TiagoDrumming Thanks for the watch and comment! We just posted another video from this set if you want to check it out!
Absolute beast behind the kit! And, oof, that mix, so meaty!
I'm going to do everything in my power to see this band after this COVID crap blows over they're just amazing!
I was supposed to see them next week along with fit for a king (headliner), gravemind and invent, animate 😭😭
The show was rescheduled to october but who knows if the lineup will stay the same
I heard this song live when they were in chicago during their tour. It was unreal plus Garrett dove off the second story balcony into the crowd with me :) that was fun and unforgettable.
Do it, worth
Alex is killing it !
HOW CAN HE BE SO TIGHT AT SUCH TECHNICAL PATTERNS 😱🔥 this guy isn’t human !!!!!!!
Love this drummer!
I’m a big SP and Alex Camarena fan! I’m an old-timer, so my favorite drummers are iconic: John Bonham, Neil Peart, Stewart Copeland, Dave Grohl. Rock seems to have generally waned over the past 20 years, but Alex’s playing gets me pumped up! To my ear, Alex is the very best of the young Rock drummers out there and a match for those old-timey icons!
Keep on slaying SP and AC!
The Drum Tone is Divine sheesh.
Fantastic drummer. The mix sounds forkin tasty also. Well done!
Got dayum! 👀
Holy mother of drum 😳 dude play so nicely and fast thumbs up !!
Great video!!! I saw SP open for ABR and although they are by far may favorite metalcore band, I didnt get a true on how incredible of a drummer Alex is until then. I had tix to see them the day after Houston put is on shutdown...now its rescheduled for July 10th...fingers crossed that we a free to move about the cabin by then.
Great sounding drums
The best band and the best drummer!!!
that breakdown @3:00 freaking SLAPS
That snare roll at 1:30 though 👀😳🤯
