I think don't that is what happened. It's more like Death is evaluating Puss to see if the change he thinks has happened has actually occurred. Initially Death is a bit peeved, but eventually walks away satisfied.
The way Death says "Shhhh, don't tell." Is the creepiest. Who is Death worried Puss might tell to? Is there someone, or something above Death who holds him accountable? The implications are terrifying.
It felt more like Death was being a smart ass in response to the cheating accusation, than actually worried about getting in trouble. I mean, even if there is someone who can hold him accountable, how is Puss going to tell them what’s going on before he dies?
I don't go to the theater often anymore but I'm so glad I did for Puss in Boots. Death's appearance at 2:01 specifically was so cool, legitimately scared me when watching for the first time lmfao, that and the chase scene immediately after are one of my favorite parts of the film

The fact that Death's VA is a brazilian who also did one of the best movies of Brazil named Tropa de Elite is incredible for me. Such a good perfomance
In the cave when Death is standing with the sickles crossed, it's the pose of Anubis, the dog-headed Egyptian god of death. Thought that was a cool touch. Also, I thought Perrito was a cool anti-death character. Had one life, and loved it no matter what bad things happened in it. Perrito is a domesticated dog, bred to serve. Death is a wolf, the wild ancestor of dogs, born to hunt. Lots of very cool layers going on. Also dogs are the classic cartoon enemy of cats. So it's funny how both Perrito and Death are opposites working on Puss' character arc. This movie hits a lot of cool archetypes in all the right ways.
@@chargewolf3102 The God of the Dead is usually the ruler of the Underworld in Pagan mythologies, not the personification of Death. In Greece, it was Hades, in the North, it was Hel, and in Egypt, the God of the Dead was Osiris. I’m not clear on Anubis, though. I know that he was the god in charge of the funeral rites and rituals, and he often led the dead to their judgment, so he probably was the God of Death.
I want to see the alternate timeline where Shrek 5 was made soon after Shrek 4, like it was originally intended. Death would be a fitting final obstacle for our favorite ogre.
Death speaking another language is cool. Like, if the mc speaks Italian, French, Portuguese, etc~ Death will speak your native tongue, regardless. Real smooth, Death- *Real smooth.*
I think what I really like about Death is he's upset that Puss didn't value his opposite: Life. He's pissed that Puss wasted every chance and didn't actually care for any of them, gambled each away, and then couldn't have the music on his last one (until the end). It's a balance, and Puss didn't care for it. So Death was either gonna make him care, or take it from him. I absolutely love this character.
3:37 I don’t think Death would’ve let Puss make the Wish. If Puss had tried, Death would’ve gone straight for the kill, likely before Puss had even finished saying the first word.
I find it cool how he's less of a traditional villain and more just a scary as hell antagonistic force. He's not out to get Puss no matter what only to get defeated in the end he's just doing his job and once he realizes Puss has changed he's just 'aight I'ma head out' without loosing any of his intimidation...haven't seen a character like that in a while
I just noticed that when Death gets in his face, Puss does in fact flinch, just a bit. Partly to avoid accidentally stabbing Death, but he does. He's not lost his fear of death, there is just more to his life now.
Honestly,Dreamworks have been pumping out proper animated movies, but this is the gem of this current era.... The way Death was behaving was...well...he was just behaving like a force of life that you cannot evade. It is inevitable. You can gush some more life out of yourself, but either way,you will meet your end. Also not gonna lie,the English and the Hungarian VA is perfect, just sooooo fitting. I am even questioning the mixed feelings in my head over this character's personality.
I love how at the end, they ALL hear Death’s whistle, because at that point they all fear Death, when before only Puss could hear it. This is also cleverly shown how Jack Horner doesn’t fear Death, as he isn’t in the scene and only arrives after Death leaves.
I mean maybe. At that point if Puss has all Nine lives back Death might have just used Puss as a glorified punching bag for not learning his lesson in valuing what and who he has while he still has them. And he’d be justified in doing so in my opinion.
@@skybunny6258 It's more like Death just really hate's Puss's guts for acting like he's immortal, letting his talent and his legend get to his head. If Death didn't cut Puss down right before he finished the wish just to get it over with, he'd probably terrorize Puss for the rest of his 9 lives.

There is. God.
It felt more like Death was being a smart ass in response to the cheating accusation, than actually worried about getting in trouble. I mean, even if there is someone who can hold him accountable, how is Puss going to tell them what’s going on before he dies?
Maybe it could be God or Mort or maybe Life or something idk or he could just be saying that to be creepy and a ass

I don't go to the theater often anymore but I'm so glad I did for Puss in Boots. Death's appearance at 2:01 specifically was so cool, legitimately scared me when watching for the first time lmfao, that and the chase scene immediately after are one of my favorite parts of the film
Fun fact: Death is not the villain, he is actually the hero, able to teach Puss well to take the right path.

Yep! You beat me too it! That edit was so cool I didn’t even expected that! Good job!
Indeed and yet sometimes it takes opposites to find ourselves
Correct me if im wrong but isnt Anubis the god of the dead, not death
@@chargewolf3102 The God of the Dead is usually the ruler of the Underworld in Pagan mythologies, not the personification of Death. In Greece, it was Hades, in the North, it was Hel, and in Egypt, the God of the Dead was Osiris. I’m not clear on Anubis, though. I know that he was the god in charge of the funeral rites and rituals, and he often led the dead to their judgment, so he probably was the God of Death.
The little things all add up a shame that the next movie probably wont live up to this one as its hard to top death
When I watched it in theaters a chill ran up my spine whenever Death whistled or mainly just was ominously on screen
the villains in these films are wild. it's insane that we went from fucking humpty dumpty to literal actual death
I want to see the alternate timeline where Shrek 5 was made soon after Shrek 4, like it was originally intended. Death would be a fitting final obstacle for our favorite ogre.
1:58 this is one of my personal favorite lines
Death speaking another language is cool. Like, if the mc speaks Italian, French, Portuguese, etc~
Death will speak your native tongue, regardless.
Real smooth, Death- *Real smooth.*

@@DISGUSTINGhi
I mean hes a force thats existed long before the earliest languages I wouldn't be shocked if he took the time to learn them all lol
Yeah reeeeeeal slick death good one
Death is that one guy who’s just happy to take down the one guy that’s annoyed him for years.
3:37
I don’t think Death would’ve let Puss make the Wish.
If Puss had tried, Death would’ve gone straight for the kill, likely before Puss had even finished saying the first word.
1:36 "Have a seat bitch!" Good one!
0:04 i never even noticed!😨
Man when death licked his lips like that the strength left my knees
From 3:22 it was like a cutscene introducing the boss
I find it cool how he's less of a traditional villain and more just a scary as hell antagonistic force. He's not out to get Puss no matter what only to get defeated in the end he's just doing his job and once he realizes Puss has changed he's just 'aight I'ma head out' without loosing any of his intimidation...haven't seen a character like that in a while
I just noticed that when Death gets in his face, Puss does in fact flinch, just a bit. Partly to avoid accidentally stabbing Death, but he does. He's not lost his fear of death, there is just more to his life now.
For things like Death and wild animals, fear and respect go hand in hand.
0:21 can we just appreciate that transition? Holy shit
3:08 for a second I thought I heard death saying “run furry”

@@DawnRavenArtme neither
I love how at the end, they ALL hear Death’s whistle, because at that point they all fear Death, when before only Puss could hear it.
This is also cleverly shown how Jack Horner doesn’t fear Death, as he isn’t in the scene and only arrives after Death leaves.

@@korahholl810I am bed. straight. up.
If Puss did make the wish, will Death still try to kill him?
I mean maybe. At that point if Puss has all Nine lives back Death might have just used Puss as a glorified punching bag for not learning his lesson in valuing what and who he has while he still has them. And he’d be justified in doing so in my opinion.
@@skybunny6258 I wonder if Death would establish his own Darwin awards list just for Puss?
@@skybunny6258 It's more like Death just really hate's Puss's guts for acting like he's immortal, letting his talent and his legend get to his head. If Death didn't cut Puss down right before he finished the wish just to get it over with, he'd probably terrorize Puss for the rest of his 9 lives.
