In one combo, death shreds part of the cloak, slashes one of the boots, and sends both the hat and sword flying. Effectively disarming Puss of everything that made him "the legend" in a single instant. And Puss picks up the pieces by making use of the one thing thats not a part of the legend's arsenal.
oh WOW i did not notice that. that is SUCH a good detail
That's a great observation. And what was the object that saved him? Kitty's blade. Puss would not be alive without her.
And thanks to having both his sword and Kitty's blade, he is able to defend himself against Death's final attack and turn the tide of the fight.
Also the “final blow” it’s different the first time death blocked easily but this time puss change the attack to a final kick proving he’s changing
@@Fairfieldfencer And claim victory. Looks like even Death can't stop the legendary Puss in Boots.
@@OfficialBulldozerStudios Not quite, Death *could* have kept going and slain Puss if he wanted to. Puss even admits he could never defeat Death (which is an unstoppable force of nature). The only reason Puss is alive is because Death decided to pass over Puss for now once he realized Puss is no longer arrogant like he was before, and appreciates the life he has
Anyone else touches the outer wall and they get vaporized. And he just walked through it effortlessly. Coldest entrance I’ve ever seen
@PaperBagEntertainmentBro its death, It is a force of nature.
Bro just causally comes in.
Because he's not a living animal or person he is straight up death, he isn't even showing on the map
3 reasons.
1) He's Death.
2) He's not here for a wish.
3) The only goal, kill Puss.
Keep in mind, bro was walking on air for that entrance. The star lifted up off the ground and he's walking straight
LOVE how the whole movie Puss is the only one to hear the whistle but this is the first time the other characters hear it too
I think because they all in a near death experience
Strange that Jack didn’t see him, but I guess he saw him in the end anyways
At this point, everyone in this scene has accepted the possibility of death, theirs or others
Probably bc puss is in possession of the map. The magic of the map made death into a “real” foe not just psychological
@@TheLastEmber.who’s jack?
I do love how Death separates Puss from the others. Because this is their fight, Death is here for him and him alone.
Yeah that was like a Conference Death Battle.
Bro have style!!
Mordekaiser's R be like
Death seperates us from our fam.
Perrito got hit tho
You know if you notice at 06:04 you can see Death actually thinks that Puss is going to use the same attack he did in the bar, against him, but Puss learning from his mistake, does the opposite. When Death gets hit by Puss, you can tell he was actually going to block like he did before. Good attention to detail.
Plus u can see when puss hits death, he was about to get hit by his sickles or about to be blocked, then puss disarms both sickles, separating one further of him. A good detail of how puss is a skilled swordsman
It looked more like he tried to hit puss.
he tries to guillotine puss with both scythes but gets parried with both due to the dagger and his sword and puss sends them flying off both ways
My favorite part
“Pick it up. Pick…. it…. up”
Yeah bro, also the cursing scene was hella fun
Kitty saved puss’s live with that gato blade…
"now, put it into the trash can"
Yooo, what's The T-1000 (Austin) doing here?
Yeah, it's very relatable. I remember when my homie told me that after I dropped the soap.
4:29 Puss crying realizing how happy his life was is just 🤌
Sim e ele preferiu ser arrogante e orgulhoso e só valorizou apenas sua fama de herói
Yeah... #agree
EAE BR @@adeiltonnunes6021
And it wasnt his all of his lives, like at the beginning in the bar - it was *this* life that mattered.
"What's the matter? Lives flashing before your eyes?"
"No. Just one. I'm done running."
It would be amazing if the wolf appeared in the future Shrek film, but not for them, for the villain
Imagine him just being the peanut gallery commentating on others moves or it could be an after credit scene.
As in a word of Death,
but having heros win all time? I find it 𝗮𝗯𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗱, remove them, as it is necessary
If he appeared for the villain the villain will be dead already 💀
@@amazingtintin9904bro what?💀I think he's trying to say a movie where death goes after the villain and the villain overcomes death just like how puss did.
he wouldnt be a wolf tho. Death takes the form of what the person fears most when he comes after them. Puss is afraid of wolves.
1:35 "Aye I'm gonna burst you up blum fam, and I'm gonna wear your clothes" 😅
Jack: That was weird 😂
It's "plum thumb", not "blum fam" because little Jack stuck his thumb in a pie and pulled out a plum.
I've seen someone put it perfectly
He was going to beat his sh*t and steal his drip
"Why the hell did I play with my food!? You're ruining this for me Gato!"
I was hoping I'd find this in the comments
@@Darth1Marik I know my dude, I just adapted to what is more common in english, he also doesn't say "gato" at the end bu it fel fitting :P. But thanks, great to see someone cared enough to correct it!
It freaked me out because I studied Spanish and have been finishing it lately through Babel and I was able to understand Death when he said that.
@@battlecross8540 I'm brazillian, so the first time I actually understood english just because of music and games made me react just like that, had a silly smile on my face for the rest of the day.
@@Darth1Marik i believe he used"diablo"as a slang in this context and he actually meant"why the hell"just like"vete al diablo" is often used as"go to hell" in spanish, instead of"vete al infierno"😆
Anyone else notice that at the end Deaths whistle was moved from a minor to a major key to almost signify that death isn’t a monster but more like a friend there to great you at the end
Oh yeah, you're right! This movie is just full of little details that enhance storytelling.
The whistle is always major but on other parts of the movie it ends on the leading tone instead of the tonic, and at 3:38 the harmony uses the augmented chord to sound hellish. But it does feel a bit like a minor scale because of the sixth becoming minor.
The goodbye helps with that. Puss knows Death will be there to greet him when he dies but instead of fearing him, he now sees him as, if not a friend, then at least an ally who will guide him to the afterlife.
And it’s pitched up a half step! Probably all those things together make it sound less bleak
So I've done some mini research on swords. Specifically Puss's Rapier. So it's a Spanish/Italian sword (which fits cos Dreamworks Puss in Boots is Spanish, but the original was Italian) originally a dress sword worn by the aristocracy but gradually worn by civilians. Typically the users worn no armour. It's lightweight and very quick designed to poke holes in your opponent (well suited to a cat) however Puss actually lacked a very important part of the ensemble of a rapier user. They typically had either a small shield or a small dagger for defense. So Kitty giving Puss her Gatito Blade actually completed the ensemble
That whistling is honestly chilling
Seriously, for real
Fr I get goosebumps when I watch the movie
Honestly loved the concerned look Puss had when Death was cussing up a storm lmao
It's not swears or cussing
Someone translated what he said in a comment more up
I would have never thought that we could get a very good movie at this Time again dream works really upped the Ante holy
and then dream works made kungfu panda 4 lol
@@TrollingScientologythey just can’t keep the ball rolling
@@TrollingScientologywhich is a good movie? All the Kung Fu Panda movies have been solid.
@@MeTaLISaWeSoMe95 lool, firstly no furious 5 cause studio cheaped out, the first "bad" thing this 4th villian does is push someone down the stairs, compared to 1's prison escape, 2's killing all the pandas, and 3's escaping spirit realm. number 4 first bad thing it does is push someone down stairs? hello? his "motive" in 4 dont even make sense mantis, viper, shifu, are all small... you're retarded if u think this movie wasnt a let down
it was so ass idk what you are talking about
3:28 bros just built different
he’s death… he’s immortal ofc he can go without problems. He’s not just a wolf. It’s a nature of death in a wolf reincarnation to intimidate puss because cats are afraid of dogs and the original dog is a wolf.
A lot of people miss the significance of that moment... wolf is literally walking on the air (as the star platform is hovering) through the disintegration wall, while whistling. It's such a brief moment that displays overwhelming power and a lot of people miss its importance.
6:27 Death is like
"looks like he finally learned his lesson" and the way he gloats. So subtle yet so meaningful
I really like the fact that they made death speak spanish. That's when you know that version of death came for Puss and only for him.
wtf are you talking about?
@@randomgamer625I think they mean this depiction of death specifically speaks Spanish FOR puss, since death is a universal thing, death specifically chose Spanish to communicate with puss.
@@randomgamer625because Puss in Boots is based on Zoro which is Spanish. Which is why he's theorizing Death takes forms you are familiar with. In this case, speaking Spanish
@@hwanniggles187 that still doesn’t make any sense but ok
@@randomgamer625it does tho. He speaks spanish because Gato does. He wouldnt randomly say spanish stuff if he were agaisnt a Chinese person for example.
Death throwing a fit because he played with his "food" made me giggle a bit too hard...
Part of me feels like he's extra mad about it because cats play with their food and that's a very cat-like thing for a dog to do 😂
Some dogs do play with their food. I have two Siberian Huskies, a male and a female. One day, the female caught a rat in the backyard. She was tossing it up in the air and catching it with her mouth over and over again. She was so happy with her new "toy" until we took it away from her.
4:37 "Just one,im done running"
I like that Puss flinches a bit when Death growls at him.
He is not fearless.
Courage is not the absence of fear. It's carrying on despite your fear.
"Kitty!! Death is after me!!!" My favorite line in this whole movie 🎥🍿
Jack thinking puss was refering to him is cute honestly
The final fight between Puss and Death is actually interesting. Puss finally fought for his life to preserve it, standing up in the face of certain death and can even fight on even terms with him. When you no longer fear death, death has no power over you.
4:09 I only just now noticed: When Death is clashing his blades trying to provoke Puss, they gave him 'eye fire'/refraction in his pupils!
3:22 😨 I know that whistle
Me: 😱😱 He's here
The low frame rate in some of the moments are literally the best things i have seen in my life.
3:42 "Stay out of this, bub!"
Animation is an art form that far surpasses conventional cinema
4:44 notice how this time Puss says the line without pride and instead with courageness and preserverance? When he first met Death he said it in a boastful way, now he doesn't give a dam about it
I like how the main plot of Puss n Boots can be summarised as:
"Puss n Boots laughs in the face of Death!"
"So I heard you're talking shit about me.."
"AAAAHHH-"
Puss in Boots: “I laugh in the face of death!”
Death: “And I took that personally.”
Dreamworks really created this masterpiece of a movie and then decided "Yeah, let's drop KFP 4"
Death has second phase like a dark souls boss 😂🤣
*Puss dying of old age in his rocking chair watching the sun set*
Death: *Appears next to him* nice view
Puss: Yup. Can i offer you a drink?
Death: I dont drink milk.
Puss: Your loss. *sips*
Death: You ready?
Puss: Yeah, lets just enjoy the view a little longer.
Death: *sits down* How was your last life?
*moments later*
Death: Ready to see Kitty and your friends again?
Puss: I was ready years ago.
Puss' daughter: *opens door* Dad are you hungry? I brought you-
3:22 Here, I know a lot of you will want to skip to here too.
I haven't enjoyed a "Fight with Death" this good since Castlevania video games!
OK, but when he says "hasta la muerte" is he saying see you later Death.
Or is he saying see you when I'm dead.
Death said "You know we will meet again right?" Puss answers with hasta la muerte, or "Until Death" meaning he wont see him until its his time to go.
@ttvCaptainJack right but language is funny. Because we're translating, and because the movie can be both comedic and serious, there is room for deviation from the exact translation. While all 3 translations listed, my two and your single, are very similar they're using different contexts. Perhaps if I said puss said "Hasta, la Muerte." As in calling death by name my question would have made more sense. It seems to me it could simply be puss saying goodbye using a name, or, as the literal translation like you said.
I didn't expected really good fight choreography from dream works as well western duel combined with Spanish(ish) fencer
these guys also did kung fu panda so they should have the chops
I like how death carried Puss’ Sword like he knew this moment would happen.
“That was weird” *Pew* 😂
I love how Jack Horner automatically assumes Puss is talking about him
I see Dreamworks went with the anime-style fight scenes! Well done!
That they cut the animation rate for the fights down to 15fps (which is pretty typical in anime) sells it that much more!
i didn't like that, makes no sense for a fencing saber or for the character.
The best sequel I ever watched!!
3:29. We can see that the wolf is literally through this wall that literally killed one of jack horners people 1:21. This indicates that the wolf is actually death itself in the movie and the wolf disappeared in those flames wich also is another indication 7:23
He also, like, tells Puss that he's Death? Did you watch the movie??
@@Whispurer Yes I watched the entire movie.
@@Agonyam then it's very clearly shown to everyone that he's Death. There's no speculation about it
5:24 I don't know if it's blood or fire when death make a cut on his shoe...if it was blood, dreamworks really made a way to sneak that in
No need to sneak it in. Death drew blood on Puss earlier in the film, and it was focused on in a big way.
That said: It was fire. Death was stripping Puss of all the things that made him a legend. He tears the cape, damages the boots, bats away the hat, then disarms the rapier. Creating the juxtaposition of the ordinary dagger being what saves his life, thus adding to his legend instead
I rate it 11 out of 10
11 out of 9*
Jack Horner is such a fun villain.
Gonna quote ClassicmanD here "Before there was Death, there was Rattlesnake Jake." The way they look into your eyes, testing to see if you're finally fighting for what you believe in, they back down and its awesome.
This fight scene hits SO MUCH HARDER when you listen to 'the only thing I know for real' from metal gear solid rising revengance.
Not a meme, a genuine good feel.
I love how Death isn't really much of a Villain here. Just a reaper who thinks that Puss having 9 lives is unfair and cheats death. Also because how he just carelessly throws away his many chances of life as if he was immortal. But when Puss finally cared about his life to the point the fear is drowned out with determination to live.
I love how they told death the look of penitence😮
That’s the coolest intro and quitting for a villain I have ever seen
The whistle sounds really beautiful for me :)
Fun fact: Death's Scythes are shaped like and omega and the fire wall that he had created, Omega means The End.
“Maybe 1 life, is enough”
I was honestly surprised when I heard about this movie, I didn't know it was coming out a couple years ago. But then I saw it was on Netflix and I thought "I heard good things, let me see" and I loved this movie, great animation, great soundtrack and a multicast of villains that don't exactly step on each other but it all works fantastic... I would rewatch this over and over if it was the only movie available
The whistle......... ooo000ooo still getting goosebumps.
The whistle is the most chilling yet amazing part of the movie. The unstoppable death lobo who although was terrifying wasn't really the villain was such great writing. This movie is great!
Characters like this that can make a noise off screen and instantly dominate the people on screen with terror is just soo good. Darth Vader's breathing comes to mind in this category, now Death with that iconic whistle.
My fav part 5:04
A great detail here is that this is the first and only time in the movie where we see Death do anything that is undeniably supernatural. Before now, he's appeared out of nowhere but we could assume he was just very stealthy, especially since this movie operates on a combination of comic book and anime rules within a fairy tale universe. Even after telling Puss "I'm Death, straight up", he doesn't do anything blatantly supernatural since his reflections when Puss is running out of the cave could be dismissed as hallucinations caused by sheer panic.
However, summoning those pinkish-purple flames is irrefutably a supernatural power. And doing it in front of witnesses means this confrontation cannot be dismissed as being in Puss' head. He truly is face to face with the Grim Reaper.
Love the 5:02-5:08 moment
IM GONNA WEAR YOUR CLOTHES 💀
That was weird *PEW*
The most friendly someone can get in the traffic of Mexico 6:47
Death scares the s*it out of me
The animation is actually insane. I've seen this movie so many times that this Puss vs Death is the one scene I need to watch
I never expected an animated children's film had one of the most unsettling and well-written antagonists in a movie. Death enters like he was taken from Dark Souls.
Rip jack in the nanny bag😭
I LOVE how they changed the animation for the fight because it WOULD NOT look as good as ot does otherwise
This movie had no business being this good. Death was an amazing character.
3:35 He's here for me…
This movie would have been more impactful if the Puss in Boots movies had been more than two, maybe a movie for each one of Puss’s lives and having this one be the last.
That be a neat idea
That would be absolutely incredible. This would feel like a great conclusion to them. Too bad can't really do it now and it would take incredibly long.
idk if puss in boots would get to 9 movies
That would be too much though. Though an idea for that should be a limited time series.
Each episode detailing each of his deaths and the final episode being the Last Wish itself.
neat idea but would be boring
If I am close to death, and I hear this whistle...my goosebumps would have another goosebumps
Me to Puss at 3:22: 😱😱 He's here
When a movie is so good, you can air the whole ending without harming sales.
Wolf is absolute badass, but Puss in boots is a Legend!!!!! I like his character!
4:13
4:12
5:14 WOW THE MAGIC
Death: "Wassup fellas, dont mind me just walking in, here to claim whats mine really quick and then I will be outta yalls' hair."
Istg, twin hooks is such an underrated weapon choice, I do hope more characters in future action films make use of the weapon
who else got darth maul vs asoka vibes after 5:12
This is the coldest villain in all of animated movies and he isn’t even really a villain he’s just not a hero. I think that’s why I like him so much because he is almost exactly like Deadpool not a hero not a villain. But for Puss he was a way to grow and the way he just said that he ruined it for him was the coldest line of all didn’t want to kill him anymore because it wasn’t fun. I kind of get it though if you know somebody fears you and you fight them knowing that it’s more fun because you can toy with them.
Death is neither a hero nor a villain. He is what he is. Death. Straight up.
He actually is a villain. If he was an anti-hero, he wouldn't have tried to kill puss before it was actually the time for him. He aims puss just out of sheer desire to have the pleasure of killing an egotistical and narsicisstic " legend"
“He isn’t even really a villain”
Yes he is
7:02 well that was unexpected :•0
Death is the most badas$ villian i swear
"Live your life" -death 😂😂😂😂
It shows that Death isn't _that_ when he spared Puss. If he wanted to kill Puss, he would've done it already
Here, Puss in Boots didn't defeat death. Rather, he only delayed the inevitable.
The villain is amazing 😂❤respect if I had that wish I would be good 😂
Can we just talk about how fckin' bàdàss and underrated the thumbnail is....
I like how for once though everyone heard the whistle not just Puss was like this dude made himself visible to everyone
I like to think that death only has power over those who fear him.
does someone find or know the ost name : 0:18
I bet, no one expected the sequel of a spin off would be THIS GOOD👍

I found a fan made monster sheet for D&D and I’m really eager to see someone use it in a session
Ngl his second last live was more powerful
Woow the very best movie for me
How did we go from Humpty Dumpty to Death in Puss in Boots movies
6:48
The fight choreography.~
To me it isn't just that he learned from previous fights, it's that his fight behavior has changed.
He isn't fighting to defeat death; he's fighting to live.
And one more cool observation: both fighters came to the fight w a diff weapon but only one adjusted mid fight
