The notion that you won't get stronger without pushing yourself to shitting your pants every set is ridiculous. This advice is for professional bodybuilders who take lots of roids, if the average person does this their chances to get injured skyrocket and will be out of the gym for months. The guy died at age 49 I don't think he's the best one to take health advice from

@Le BOSS de UA-cam idk I run Hella. About 4 to 5 miles a day. But I also eat alot. Just don't run after leg day. I'm sure you could do light boxing a couple days after chest / arms / back but it's probably best not to. He was also a world class body builder so the small details that apply to him (don't box after chest day etc) might not fully apply to a dude who's just trying to get some muscle and fit a shirt nice.

I do Metzer's recommended routine but I also run and do Muay Thai on some off days. Good gains so far. He's not saying to do nothing, he's talking about measuring your efforts. "there are only two perfectly accurate measures of intensity."
In this seminar he's talking about a theoretical question like "does working out at 80% yield maximum results? Or 90%? Or 99%?" Aka "how hard should we train?"
His answer is basically saying "going to 100% is the only way you know you're getting max gains."
He is pretty big on resting, but he also has a lot of information talking about running, biking, etc. I'd say you're good to do some running and boxing, just make sure your body is getting some solid time to rest and grow.

Training literally 100%, until your muscles fail, every workout, multiple times per week, for months, years, or decades is a practically inevitable way to trigger an injury at some point. And over the long run, being this relentless on your system will wreak havoc on your joints.

The modern HIT method of today is doing slow controlled reps 2 minutes to failure on a MACHINE! As you reach failure, your ability to contract your muscles strong enough to tear a tendon off of the bone becomes significantly less because your muscles tire. Unless you are using free weights that obviously hurt you when going to failure(you know which exercises[I hope you know]), there is VERY MINIMAL chance you will hurt yourself. It literally does the complete opposite. HOWEVER, if you do super heavy weights and try jerking that as fast as you can, what do you think would happen sooner or later? Your brain is too small to be teaching people. Idiots like you only misguide the sheeps in this thread/comment section.

Remember this man was blasting a super-physiological amount of gear and literally experimented with methamphetamine as a pre-workout so the man’s intensity was probably stratospheric and cannot be applied to natural lifters. That said, if you train to failure within 1-2 of your working sets and provided you give your body adequate rest time for each muscle group, high intensity training is very beneficial.

"blasting a super- physiological amount of gear"? - compared to bodybuilders now, Golden Era BB's used much less, and had access to only a few different kinds.

Not at all. You use moderately high weight, and extremely strict form and weight. 4 second concentric, 2 second pause, 4 second eccentric. Quite possibly the safest way to train.

Correct me if I’m wrong but wouldn’t just simple progressive overload cause you to eventually reach that level of intensity if you’re trying to be better in whether it’s one more rep/set, or more weight?

High resistance training is good. Like you're holding onto a high-voltage wire. Mind muscle connection through the rhythmic range of motion is hard to beat. Feel the muscles through striations. Both have their place.

He started taking 2 dianabol pills a day at 19 years of age (theres audio footage of him personally saying it) dunno exactly about the dosage, but I've heard from other videos of other people that 5mg dianabol pills where pretty common in the 60s & 70s. Now you are in your 60s so maybe 10mg could be too much to begin with..at your age, you should ask a specialised doctor & do more research about the drug before taking it !

This is surpassed by sooo many training styles nowaday that if you tell a professional bodybuilder to workout 40 mins and get 4 working sets per mouscle group, he will just laugh.
Go for volume and variety of stimulus guys, that's where true gold is.
