I have one of those screw in pull up bars and it has lasted me over 2 years no problem. I've done pull ups, push ups, nordics, skin the cats, weighted pull ups, clapping pull ups and they have not budged one bit. The key with them is to screw it as tight as humanly possible. They're really helpful for people who don't have door frame ledges. If any of ya'll are on the fence with buying one i highly recommend you do as in my experience they are 100X more useful than the ones that just hang on ur door frame.
I was amazed to find out how warm wrist bands can keep your body - I used them for martial arts training in colder weather. They helped me conserve heat as I warmed up without using clothing that would warm excessively and get wet with sweat. If my body got too warm as I worked out I could of course easily take them off. They work this way in civilian wear too. Warmth without bulk or excessive clothing!
3:16, one thing i found about that pull up bar, it can kinda be like parallettes too, to help you train plances and stuff, like a really small low parallettes. You just put it on the floor and tilit it up side down as compared to how you put it on your doorframe. The downside is that the handles are curved. THere's even like foam support/grip thingyies on the spot where it could function as a "parrallete."
Tip for pull up bar #1 if you're renting your place! If you grab a small aluminum plate from home depot for 10 bucks and put pad tape on one side, it wont damage the paint on the top of your doorframe if you put it in between the pullup bar and the wall
The second pull up bar is actually great, it just needs tightening. I have installed on my door for the past 5 years. Only thing it needs is a hard wood door frame otherwise it will drill through it!!
The stick pull-up bar can be extremely solid, they also come with screws for extra safety. It's needed for a door you'd want to open and close often like a bathroom
A weight vest was a game changer for me. Really makes me feel like I'm gettin more out of my sets. Also have rings and kinda feel thats all you really need.
0:32 With all due respect, your setup for dips with the small parallettes is a pretty good sales pitch for the dip bars, because it looked uneven in height and wobbly. To be fair, in my 20 years of training from home, I've come to the conclusion that the most consistent and economical way to do stable dips at home is with dip bars. A dip station is even sturdier, but also more expensive and difficult to store. Rings work (I use them every session), but only if you're okay with trading a lot of raw tonnage and muscle stimulus for the increased stability requirements. Stability is great, but sometimes you just want to crank out heavy reps without thinking too much about proprioception. And finding two stable surfaces of exactly the same height that allow you to place two parallettes roughly shoulder-width apart is harder than it might seem at first.
I got that second pull up bar, except it screwed into the door frame so it was secure. It was useful, but the issues are that you only have one grip position and it has you doing the pull ups in the door frame so it limits how wide you can spread your elbows. I felt very limited after a while. I switched to the other one.
Downside of the weighted vest for pullups is that it blocks full RoM. I use a simply gym sack, lines with a little cardboard and a few thin magazines to reinforce it, loaded with dumbbells, then it's on my back for pushups. Main downside of it is just that it has a size limit (I have 24Kg in mine but no more space in the bag, or weight to add to it). I liked the tip for how to use medium parallettes for dips. I don't do dips currently but may try to find a way to do so now.
the screw-out-end pull up bar only works if: 1) you bridge across two door frames in a hallway or corridor, or 2) you drill out two snug recesses for the end parts in the door frame (use a spade bit)
Bought rings a month ago and it’s probably the best thing one can do… a light elastic band is also great because of rehab / warming up, especially for the elbows and shoulders
The pull up bar is safe (at least that sort of design, I don't know about that specific one). You need to install it properly. Friend of mine has had one for years and it was able to hold my weight up (90kg at the time I tried).
I've always found with the larger paralettes the main benefit other than dips is being able to do the bodyweight row, which I've not found a good way to do on other kit other than rings but mounting rings in the house is a right pain
I loved this video and thank you giving a very detailed guide on what to buy and not to, but I also kept giggling throughout the video cause you’re so smartly funny! Please make more of these with literally whatever you have ❤
So, the two things I love having in my house are, first, the second pull-up bar. I know you're not a fan, but I went ahead and drilled it into the door frame, added the cups, and tightened everything up with the Allen wrench. It's super solid now. The second thing I need to add is a set of rings, so I can start doing dips, push-ups, pull-ups.
4:00 I have a similar screw on pull-up bar that I've been using for some time, and from what I've discovered, it works if you make one end of it a tiny bit higher than the other, and keep screwing until it's impossible to do more. Like, you'd have to use your pushing strength if you can. You also can't just start it however, you have to make sure not to swing too much. I know it sounds like a lot of hassle to go through for something with questionable safety, but that's the best I could find for cheap where I live, and it's serving its purpose, so I don't mind.
I would say out of all the countless people I watched on yt for working out you have the best figure and I would strive for that as well ( even though it's not as big as other people I think it's the best shape).

Rings and pull up bar is really all you need as a beginner. As an added bonus: I tried doing assisted pistol squad holding on to the table/couch/whatever and it was okay. But then I tried doing the same while holding on to rings for support and got my ass kicked. Guess the instability of rings just does way more for your body.
4:00 I have that pullup bar and you once you can it's stable on the door frame.. you can turn it even more to make it tighter... It's been on my door for a year now...
4:02 i wonder why it slides like that, ive been using that pull up bar for months now, and never had a problem, i tight it so much that it feels like it sticks between the door frame.
I have a similar pull-up bar, and it came with mounts that I screwed in. It is safe, but for my taste its abit low. Also your door frame have to be installed right or you damage your door frame while using it. Good as a spare, rings are number one :)
the second pull up bar you tested while not the best is good for people who dont have a doorframe to support the first you need a friend to help you set it up, one of you has to hold it up while the other spins the middle of the bar extending it.
4:05 No its not. I have the same horizontal bar, and it has been hanging in the hallway for more than 2 years, I have done pull-ups with weights, muscle-ups, even a little dynamics like 360, shrimp flip regrab, gainer, and it holds perfectly. So you just need to secure it well.
There are some between the door pull up bars that can screw into the door. Been hanging in my door for 2 years now! The top of my door frame isn't strong enough for those you can hang from it
I have a pullup bar similar to the extending one, but it has mounts you screw into the door frame so that it is actually secured rather than relying on tension alone. With that in mind, there are two different kinds that mount like that that might bear considering based on your situation. My current one is in the doorway to my garage. The door frame was constructed in such a way that the one that screws and extends for outward pressure was actually pushing the door frame apart enough that I didn't trust it. I have another one that slides to extend, but the mounting brackets are hex shaped and the ends slide down into them. This one was better because any tension on the bar pulls inward rather than pushes outward. The other benefit with his one is the bar does not rotate and affect your grip like the other one could. So something worth considering if you have a doorway where you can screw in the mounts without worrying about the holes left behind like in an apartment.
I would opt for the pull-up bar with an elevated bar that's more higher than the door frame. It's a big difference from the regular pull-up bar where you're forced to fold your legs backwards
I just got yoga blocks, foam roller and a home made ballet barre made up from scraps of a dismantled racing car cockpit. Its actually aluminium extrusion. I can use the barre for learning dance or do front and back levers, pull ups (I have to position my legs in pike postion as the bar is low) on them and do leg stretches on them.
Great video!💪 Side note from our side. Only the Medium Parallettes are supplied unassembled, and only in the USA and Canada. This reduces the shipping costs considerably. In all other countries, they are delivered already assembled and balanced. ✌
I use a pull up bar similar to the second one. I just put rubber balloons on both ends and tighten it really hard and it stays pretty good. Even put rings and it holds.
One thing you might try is competition straps for the rings off a pull-up bar. Not good for uneven attachment points but way easier and consistent off something like a straight bar. I regularly use it for inverted rows, face pulls, and leg curls. For unweighted dips I recommend a walker from goodwill. Not 100% about heavy weighted dips or other movements.
Ive been hitting PR´s on dips recently and bought ElbowSleeves for the pain doing heavy loads, recommend 100%. Its a lot when your doing strength training with dips and other stuff like muscleUps, elbow sleeves saves me from injury. including WristWraps ofc.
Thanks, Colin! I always find your videos inspiring. Maybe you could do one about cardio or recovery aids for home gyms, stuff like jump ropes or foam rollers etc. ✌️
i hear the trx style suspension trainers are pretty good for recovery. Just dont' get TRX brand because who tf pays 200 dollars for a couple of ratchet straps with handles on them?
I agreee with you on the "rings". I'd give it a 12/10. It is very versatile. These are monetarily cheap and can replace the TRX. Although I do find them uncomfortable if you are putting your feet in them. For that I do prefer the TRX. If it wasn't for that aspect, my TRX would be sold.
You can use the larger parallets for reverse hypers if you make a t shape with them, also although the dip belt is indespensible for weighted calisthenics, the weighted vest is needed for the push ups, and rows
@@yagottapaythetrolltoll3127 I'm not so into the weight distribution with the backpack for rows, and the plate on my back limits the range of motion on my push ups- it hits my arms
Ive used one of those same style pull up bars you said was stupid for years now. If you put it in the door frame properly it is solid and wont budge. I weigh 200Ilbs and do weighted dips using 15kg of extra weight and it holds in place fine. I also use it as anchor point for resistance band exercises and often with a heavy band, so the bar is taking added resistance and pull from multiple angles and still years later holds solid in place with no movement
I had the pull up bar at 3:40, It was great, until my doorframe stopped working and I fell and hit my back on a sharp edge of the doorway. 10/10 would recommend.

I have a similar pull-up bar, and it came with mounts that I screwed in. It is safe, but for my taste its abit low. Also your door frame have to be installed right or you damage your door frame while using it. Good as a spare, rings are number one :)
the second pull up bar you tested while not the best is good for people who dont have a doorframe to support the first you need a friend to help you set it up, one of you has to hold it up while the other spins the middle of the bar extending it.
you can do it without support
4:05 No its not. I have the same horizontal bar, and it has been hanging in the hallway for more than 2 years, I have done pull-ups with weights, muscle-ups, even a little dynamics like 360, shrimp flip regrab, gainer, and it holds perfectly.
So you just need to secure it well.
Wall mounted pull up bar (+ dip bar station) and gymnastics rings are must haves.
The guy struggling to bike in the background had me rolling haha
One of my best purchases was chalk. My hands are to weak to work my back, chalk helps there alot and is generally great when sweating on your hands
dang useful stuff. gracias!
If you could put links to the other items (like the rings) in the description that would be dope.
Doorway pullup bar, Gymnastic rings, weight vest. my top 3 in that order.
Perfect video. Exactly what I needed. Thank you so much!
Thank you. I believe you are the only person who has tried these tools and explained to us the positive and negative points.
Dope video man. Thanks I definitely needed this ‼️
2:50 - I don't have a single door in my entire house that fits the pull-up bar I picked up (for free) so I just use it as a small parallette😄😄
3:50 try make it bigger than the door frame, put one end of it a little above it's final place and then pull it down
”a little jog”, then my man just full on sprints😂💀
Those push up boards are nice too
Literally perfect timing with this video I’ve finally got some extra change so I’ve been wanting to invest in some home gym equipment.
Rings are fucking insane. I love em. Gonna build some strength in my pull ups and dips on them and then take some weight with me on my ring workouts.
Colin is the best fitness youtuber out there, love the vids ✊🏻
I consider myself hard to impress as far as humor goes, but man this dude makes me laugh. Awesome fitness advice aside Colin, you’re hilarious.
Ally peaks bar is actually really good and firm. Worth it for me!
You should turn the doorway pull up, in the middle thats why its slipping beacause you didnt turn it from the middle
I laughed out loud at the falling apart after the scissor attempt 🤣
You can use the larger parallets for reverse hypers if you make a t shape with them, also although the dip belt is indespensible for weighted calisthenics, the weighted vest is needed for the push ups, and rows
I find a backpack with weight inside to be sufficient instead of a weighted vest
@@yagottapaythetrolltoll3127 I'm not so into the weight distribution with the backpack for rows, and the plate on my back limits the range of motion on my push ups- it hits my arms
hanging rings off a pull bar is pretty much dip bars but better
Ive used one of those same style pull up bars you said was stupid for years now. If you put it in the door frame properly it is solid and wont budge. I weigh 200Ilbs and do weighted dips using 15kg of extra weight and it holds in place fine.
I also use it as anchor point for resistance band exercises and often with a heavy band, so the bar is taking added resistance and pull from multiple angles and still years later holds solid in place with no movement
That 2nd pull up bar is supposed to have two caps that screw into the door frame and you extend the bar into those
love how you adds humor in your recent content dude
Lol thanks bro!
Always chalk up before your runs.
I had the pull up bar at 3:40, It was great, until my doorframe stopped working and I fell and hit my back on a sharp edge of the doorway. 10/10 would recommend.
