I have always wanted to put Apple CarPlay on my 06 Prius original factory screen but there was no way so I added a aftermarket radio and now I see this video kind of cool
What a dream. I have a 2005 Prius so the mfd maybe too old but also...at 679usd that's so expensive 😢. The gen2 Prius I feel has one of the best places to Mount a phone and using android auto on the phone (can't do that with car play?) That solves the issue mostly . Would love to have this though!

Good video. It would be nice to see a more detailed user interface walkthrough with functions on the carplay. For example, how constrained are the map views using the Prius mfd, particularly for traffic views. Resolution issues? How does zoom and pan work. Response time issues? In the end many of us would probably have a stereo guy install it but the user interface would be the deciding factor. One would hate to install this with the time and expense just to be disappointed with constraints of the Prius mfd.

For the 3rd generation 2010-11 Prius with E7022 radio, use Grom unit TOY6VL2. For the 3rd gen 2012-15 Prius with APP button, use Grom Unit TOYHKVL2 . For the 3rd gen 2013-19 Prius with LCD screen, use Grom unit TENVL2. This video is for the 2nd Generation 2006-09 Prius with Navigation which uses the Grom unit LEX5VL2. The box unit looks the same, but with different cables unique to the year and model.

the former owner installed the tablet below instead of the tape recorder, only the tablet on the top of the car no longer works, the one with the buttons for climate, consumption, battery charging, etc. how could i fix it?

That is a great question. If the unit has the correct input for the video connection then it will work. You will need to pull your MFD and check to see if it has the BLUE connection port.
Hi Jeff, if you watch on the video the port that I plug into on the back of the MFD is what you need to have in order to make it work. If you have that blue port you should be able to make it function. You can also contact GROM Audio and ask the experts! Sean is very helpful.
The official GROM video puts the VLINE unit inside the glove box, but your placement makes sense as the DVD unit for the factory Navi unit is under the driver’s seat. Putting the VLINE unit under passenger seat is convenient. Since the power harness was 6 in short, were you able to affix a mount for the VLINE box? If so, what was your solution for mounting this? Did make a special bracket?
Do you think it would be possible to mount the unit underneath the CD player where that "door" opens and closes? Remove the plastics piece and put it in it's place? Thanks!

You get what you pay for. This unit is expensive because of the software development that went into it. Computer programming is not cheap labor. But the return for us consumers is that you get a sleek interface that looks factory.
I reached out to Grom as I have a 2014 Prius model 5 with the Advanced Technology Package and NAV. The NAV unit is the Denso unit and has the E7039 annotation on the front. They indicated that the wire harness is incompatible with it. Anyone have any success on an option for this combination?
I got a Prius S turing 2016 imported with a Japanese language factory fitted panel. Is there any way to change the language or update the firmware of the panel to support english language?
That is a really good question! I would bet you need to change the unit or search through the settings (although you would need one in English to know where to search)

Thanks for the video, your content is super helpful. I have a question about what you said at 6:00 about error codes. Is this a known issue? I ask because while doing my install, I did turn power on to vehicle at one point while the park button was disconnected. After the install, I had a red triangle of death on the dash, which I have never had before until doing my install. Not sure what the code was, because I disconnected the battery to reset the light and it has not come back. Thanks for any help or insight you can provide.

Wonderful idea, but we could add a Android Auto (wireless) via a PIONEER or Sony unit for $300 buck and you can also add steering wheel control for 49.99. Just to pricey to compete with other solutions. If it was $150... that seems about right.

You are certainly right. You could do that. I prefer the look of how it came from the factory and as such like it this way. I will say though, using code reading apps with it are an issue when you have a master warning light, that part sucks. For what it is, it is good but there certainly are drawbacks. @@camposvazquezTheir unit is an Android unit that piggybacks onto your existing MFD. It's pretty responsive and works really well.

I think that is right because there are certain inputs in those MFDs that are not one the base models.

I went under the passenger seat. No special bracket, just used plastic clips to hold it on.
I slid the seat all the way back and it hits the unit so I decided to put in the glovebox.@@TheHybridGuy

Does the cable to the radio use the same port as an external Sirius XM unit? Yes quite steep to put in my 2005.
The only cable you need from the radio is the power cable.

You could but then you lose the cubby space. I’m working on a second update video to show what I decided to do with mounting.

So say if you have blue tooth in your prius now Gen 2 but no Nav. You will now have Bluetooth but gain the Navigation in the screen as well correct?

Just toggle the info button if you have it on the steering wheel then push the audio button to go back to Grom

That is a great question! I have not tried it on a non Navi unit. However it should work most of the units have the ports already there.

If you add the $500 deductable after someone steals your Pioneer/Sony unit, it's worth it! No one will try to steal this since it's hidden so well

It plugs in to the MFD and then interfaces when you turn it on.
This interface cost more then I bought my prius for.
Sounds like you got a great deal in your Prius! I love my Vline it’s been such a great upgrade.
