Today’s cars don’t generally need permanently visible water temp indicators as they rarely overheat. As far as I know it’s a legal obligation to show it somewhere, but you can bury it in a digital interface rather than it always being there.
would rather drive that round the ring than most of the modern cars , when driving was driving and cars were cars . the owner looked soo happy the whole time :P
Sounds awesome, nice lap🤩fun to see an infinity being lapped don’t think I’ve ever seen one on the ring not exactly fast but with an exhaust they sound nice too
Very nice car that brings up memories, when i was a kid we believed the number at the end of the tachometer was the max speed the car could get to. This car would go up to 260km/h and we were amazed 😂
Well this brings back memories! My very first car was a Mk2 Golf GTi 16v in Oak Green with the Big Bumpers, a 1991 model year. Absolutely loved it, everyone wanted to race me, Renault 5 GT Turbo, 205 GTI 1.9, Astra/Kadett GSI, Escort RS Turbo’s etc.. The Golf never let me down and wish I’d kept it! Clean examples are fetching decent money now. Some fun times had with that car! 🥰😎👍🏼
Me too I had the MK2 16V in Oak Green from May 1990 with Sebring exhaust and Bilstein shocks but I clearly remember that mine was kicking from 5000 to 7100 rpm unlike this one. Memories...
@@milenmi1 Excellent! Mine had a Remus exhaust with Bilstein shocks and slightly lowered with Eibach springs. Had the 15 inch BBS cross spoke wheels and I had fitted a Kamei eyebrow spoiler for a meaner look. Loved it! Yes, mine had the top end kick in the rev range too, I guess with this car carrying 3 people that probably made a difference in how it performed.
What a memory stirrer. I had a Monza Blue 88 16v with 4 branch manifold, stainless Janspeed exhaust and a Stroeve induction kit. Made 172 brake on the rollers and was a joy to drive.
Sound 1a, über Heimkinoanlage ein Genuß. Aber das geilste, Öltemperatur, Wassertemperatur, alles im grünen Bereich. 80% der anderen Videos mit neueren Autos ständig eine Warmlampe an etc.. Top Golf 16v
Now I wish a Nurburg ASMR channel existed. Hearing all the different cars through the open window was so enjoyable and really immersive. But alas, Misha is usually too fast and we never hear the other cars. Lol
Crazy a whole car load of bambinos can fly around a speed unlimited track with zero protection whatsoever! Here in Australia we cant even drive with one other passenger on track. When we do we need fire safety equipment and helmets. Soft arse vs hardcore. Will take hard core thanx. What an experience! 🎉🚗👌👉💪
It's amazing how capable and competitve this car still is. You don't need much more HP, 180 maybe, and some less weight and you'll comfortable get along with rather new cars with much, much more HP. Great video, loved it :)
I had a 1988 Golf GTI 16v which I put a 2.0 bottom end in. Still the car that I remember most fondly out of maybe 30+ cars that I have owned over the last 50 odd years.
a 1987.5 GTi 16V was my very first car (in Canada), which I bought when it was two years old. I had the good fortune of doing a co-op work term at Porsche in Weissach, and had the luxury of driving the European version of the very same car, which had much hotter cams and larger intake bores. That car, and the drives that I took in it remain memorable!
It's a Mk2 Golf, what's not to love 😍 Quite probably one the best cars ever made. The lap made me smile too, and reminisce about my old 1989 valver, which I moved on in 2008, but caught up with last year, and is still going strong! 😎
I’ve owned 3 mk2 GTI’s over the years, two 8v and a 91 16v. Loved all three and really wished I’d kept the 91. They’re so fun to drive and make phenomenal daily drivers. Some day I’d like to get another late gen Mk2 and maybe slap a TSI engine and trans to make a fun little hotrod.
A co worker of mine had this car new when i was a teen. He delivered pizzas in it and i loved riding with him! We were on 3 wheels more than we were on 4 wheels😅 Great car, great memories
Perfeito 👌🏼
Wonderful Golf, it's right at home on the 'ring. Hope someday you get to try a Mk5/Mk6 Golf with the NA I5, but I don't believe they sold them in Europe so it would be a rarity indeed.
Hey - 16v mk2 was my first car. I bought it as 19 yrs old -> my first earned money, for exactly 666 euros :) I had KR engine 139hp but it shows 154hp after 420.000 kilometers. this 16v You are driving is PL I guess so it has 129hp. my was 88 production year too - but 4door. I miss it - thankfully I bought mk1 Karmann cabrio last year - what a fun to drive - no screens no electronics - just us and the car. I think that gear box in this car may not be original or its PL Gearbox - mine had 2nd till about 125km/h thx U that U 4 film older cars too! I wonder how much faster it will run with only the driver cause car weights like 960kg only so every extra kg matters - here You have like 180kg plus :)
Car with emotions❤. To bad that car does not have oem gearbox. This box have much longer ratios and it kills the performance. Oem 2y is the best for 16v.
My favourite VW is the Mk7.5 Golf R. That is a good platform to build a fast road/track day car, and is well supported by aftermarket performance parts.
The last golf gti! Still can't beat the 205 gti 115 but very nice car! Sad all other golf gti after dig hole of stupidity and impersonating GTI name. 🎉😂
Hey! Owner here. Thanks for the lap, it was super fun!
Cool car mate.
u can be proud it hold the temp so good on 9x°C the whole lap. nice car nice sound
Qué maravilla de clásico tío! Disfrútalo con salud amigo!
The proof that you don't need 800hp to really enjoy a lap of Nurburgring. Great car mate!🎉
Love the sound of the car man 👍👍
1988 and it has a stock oil temperature. Todays cars don’t even have water temperature indicator. The best golf ever .
my 2018 has both
Oh they have one

Such a chill lap, Very enjoyable. Seems really well dialed in for what it is👍.
Very nice car that brings up memories, when i was a kid we believed the number at the end of the tachometer was the max speed the car could get to. This car would go up to 260km/h and we were amazed 😂
Ahhhh, I regret selling my 16v all those years ago! I loved that car. Great to see what a stock-ish one looks like on the 'ring
I feel the same way, selling was one of the biggest mistakes of my life :(

my first US spec vw after i was stationed in germany was an 87 16V gti. it was an absolute riot of a little car!
i love you take the time to drive these older, now much slower cars

Cracking lap, nice black ISF parked next to the golf gti begging to be driven!
I hope that we will see the IS-F in an upcoming video! :)
Awesome video & lap! Finally this month I'll be back on the ring with my stock golf 2 (54ps) too xD

The old Golfs are so light, so the power is put to good use. I had a regular old Mk1 in the 90s and that thing flew!
