- Building a rabbit hutch was a project that was bound to happen at some point. I have been wanting rabbits of our own for various reasons for a while now. So when my neighbor asked me to build them some cages for their bunnies I thought, "perfect."

Additional info about sore hocks:
Rabbits can turn up with sore hocks on any type of flooring. The condition known as Ulcerative Pododermatitis has many known causes such as hard surfaces, exposure to constant moisture, compromised immune system, excessive thumping and bacterial infection.
All wire bottom floors can cause problems IF the grid spacing of the wire is too wide and the gauge of wire used is too thin. I recommend no more than 1/2" spacing with 16 gauge wire. 1/4" spacing with 23 gauge wire may be used for smaller breeds of rabbits. I also recommend it be galvanized to prevent rusting.
Additionally, the inclusion of something as simple as a piece of cardboard or a grass mat will provide entertainment as well as a place to lounge if they wish to get off the wire.
In the summer time our rabbits lounge on the wire and in the winter they don't seem to care.

This is by far the nicest laid out rabbit hutch plans on the internet and gorgeous to boot. And for anyone that is complaining about size, simply add on a foot or what ever you would like to the width, it's not hard.
Thank you tremendously for this!
HI Stan,
I'm Basel from Saudi Arabia
I really enjoyed your rabbit hutch video. Especially the intro!
Thank you so much
Hutches for rabbits with no rabbets. Pretty sweet! Nice work.
CMR Woodworks | Chris McDowell Thanks dude.
Were these hutches for pet rabbits? Or did your neighbor get into the backyard rabbitry homesteading business? I'm starting up a small rabbitry and think these are the best outside hutches on the net! I went as far as ripping a few 2X4s in half and putting the frame together...at 30X36X18(at the lower in of the 15 degree angle) they seem like the perfect size to me so far!!! Did your neighbor run into any unforeseen problems that you care to share? If all goes to plan, I should have all 6 of mine built by around the end of the month!!! Thanks for sharing this design!!!
the New baby bunnys born today 😍 7 Lil bunnys. soo lovely 😻
That's great. Glad to hear it.
comedian in our spare time are we? as usual, another quality video. thank you
Liquid Len In another life. Thanks
I have two rabbit but don't have a proper cage so thanks for this video and now my rabbit is happy and safe
My daughter is been asking me to do that. My friend like allway good job.
Carlos Jacob Thank you Sir. Always a pleasure.
'I says, friend!'....so funny! I can't remember names either...I will have to remember that one!
+dirtpatcheaven I love it when my humor doesn't result in awkward glances to the corner. hehe!
Just like the cage you are building in the video but with a box on the back for each rabbit to go into for when it gets cold out. I live in Iowa and in the winter the weather can get to about -10 or so. I hopes this helps you understand what I meant in my first post.
I agree wire flooring gives animals bumble foot and sore hocks
I give links on the "suspected" causes of sore hocks plus interviewed two local vets and a local breeder and they all agree that there is more to the condition than wire flooring. Some rabbits never develop the condition despite wire flooring while others develop it and never spent a day on wire flooring. Please look further into the issue as I have. Thanks.
Buy wire that has tiny holes so the surface area pressure of the wire is spread out along the feet and have a small area un wired for resting. Really doesnt have to be complicated or a big deal. Also proper cleaning and management clears ALOT of problems
Wire flooring does not hurt a rabbits feet. I raise rabbits and have for awhile in all wire hanging cages, not one issue. From what i was told from a few breeders that have been raising rabbits for 30+ years is that sore hocks is genetic. Now using the hardware cloth he used is not a good choice in wire as it will be more costly in the long run and more cleaning as the poop may not fall through, now using 1/2×1 inch 16 gauge wire will get you alot longer floor life. But they are some nice looking hutches and what ever wire suits their needs.
Very nice build if you don't mind me asking what was the cost if 1 of those hutches
I love what they decided to do as far as the roof material.
Caroline Schisler Yep, popular choice. Thanks.
I love this. My fiancé found a black and white bunny in front of our home. We kept her named her Miss Lola Bunny off of space jam. I wanna make a outdoor cage for her. She's not very big and want to make it not only a house but a play area for her also. and can they be just two big ones for two rabbits?
Is she a Dutch? Do you still have her? I breed Dutch rabbits and I could give you any tips you might need
Hello, I watched this and your second video on building a hutch and I'm wondering why you had to cut the sides into panels first. Any particular reason or can I use a block of wood? Thanks!
omg, this video made me laugh so friggin hard!!! I have been trying to find a user friendly video to help me a lady build a rabbit hutch all by myself with my hubbys tools and this is perfect!!! Thank you!!
Kaci McNeel I'm so glad it entertained you and if it helps you, all the better. FYI, I'm building another rabbit hutch with a different design coming soon.
So what is the actual dimensions for each of the three hutches? Not being rude. I’m young and wondering the size because I plan on building a few hutches outside and want to make sure I don’t have to change the dimensions depending on my Breed of rabbit. From what I understand they are 2ftx2ft am I wrong?
HI Stan,
I really enjoyed your rabbit hutch video. Especially the intro!
***** Thanks
Love this video. I modified the design slightly to have a larger space in each hutch. My problem is the doors. Do you have a door tutorial?
I see the cut list could you make a buy list for the pieces you used? so we can easily know what to buy without having to do a lot of math
loved the video, subscribed and liked. my only question is, how much $$$ is actually in each hutch. I really don't want to have an all wire cage but, I need to think about funds also. Thanks for the video
"I says Great build friend" i says great build because it was..;) Good stuff Stan!! Haha!
My 14yr old daughter zoey has a rabbit for a pet. Tht thing is a high maintenance pet. Holy crap! Speaking of crap thats all it does ..crap crap hop! Lol! Have a good one man!
Joe Walters Start a garden. Ours is the most well nourished garden on the block.
Stan Sullivan funny u say that-me and the wife were just talking about that last week for the sode of our garage..sun hits it almost all day and its 4ftx6ft area.
Ok, how did you attach the frame of the door? I see no screws. Did you glue them together then added the hardware cloth? thanks .
great work and video, the talk part was really fun!
Sebastian ocaño Thanks!
nice work buddy. gonna have to make me one of them
I wish I was older!!!! my dad has all the equipment but I'm too young to make it and for people wondering y I don't just ask him it's cuz he sadly passed away :(
ObsidianFX sorry for ur lost fear..kp holding on

Sorry for your loss
Love from Kerala,india
How much did one of these 3 caged hutches cost to make?
Nice project!!!
I'm sorry for the rabbits!
Greetings from Chile!!
Gonzalo Gallegos Greetings.
so cute rabbits 🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀
Liking your style Stan. Nice work.
LipSkid Thank you, thank you.
Glad you make this video. Please indicate the measurement sir for every angle
Love the video. Very entertaining.
opaquemango85 Awesome thanks.
What is that green “gun” I have been trying to look for it but can’t figure out the name.
do you think that you will ever build a new type of rabbit cage. Like a three hole cage with a hutch on the back.
+Alex Pudenz Possibly although I am uncertain of what you are describing. Send me a pic if you can.
those are small
Kaelee McCoy It’s probably for rabbits bread for meat. Not pets.
Video is super helpful ! By any chance would you have a material list for the 3 hutches you built ?
I'm a Stan Fan. Nice project and video!
Robert Mazzitelli Hey, I like me too...wait...that sounded a little conceited...my bad. However, thank you.
Very nice. Great job!
Try all wire wood wares down and wire lasts a long time!
I love them! Well done!
How much does it cost??
merci
thanks, my dad build it soon,
Do you think this would work if I enclosed one of the "cages" and left the other 2 open to allow the rabbit extra space?
lionbearcat You could although there are probably more efficient designs out there for that. If you have that much space to dedicate to a rabbit I recommend incorporating run space as opposed to a larger hutch design. JMHO
BUT GEORGE YOU SAID I COULD TEND THE RABBITS!
Mice and Men?
nailed it!
I hope your neighbor added some bedding... and I feel like they need a shared space so they can hang out with each other :-) Great job building this though. Nice video too.
Slowvannah Farms As far as the bedding is concerned I do not know. As far as the shared space is concerned I asked that same thing and even asked if they wanted them to at least see each other and they said, "NOOOO!!!" They know a whole lot more than I do on the subject and it's there hutches so I will yield to their knowledge and experience on the subject. They told me what they wanted and I built it. I had a lot of fun doing this project. I learned a lot and I'm glad they asked me. You are not alone in your thoughts and thanks for the kind words.
Stan Sullivan Ahh well otays then. Glad you had those thoughts too. Good job on the hutch again.
Slowvannah Farms Thanks again. Always good to hear from you. "Otays"...lol, mind if I sneak that into my next video?
Stan Sullivan Lol that's otays with me. Tanks. :-)
Stan Sullivan There is a reason there is the term breed like rabbits :) it would drive the buck crazy if he could see the does i believe :D
Love this hutch thank u so much we might make it but a little bigger thank u 😄😄😄😄😄
Verry good sir
Very nice
Cool! Thxs.
What is the price per cage?
This video was so helpful!
What size boards did you use for the whole thing
I'm not trying to be rude so don't take this the wrong way but in the video I state that a materials and cut list can be found on my website and I state to check the description. Have a great one.
+Stan Sullivan ok well I'm sorry
+Stan Sullivan I was tending to rabbits and watching the video
No need to analogize. Wasn't trying to be rude with ya.
Multitasking is a good thing. Peace.
Those look great!
Kyle Veatch Thank you.
It's good but the rabits eat wood
What is that tool is at ryobi called?
Your blog mentions another design upcoming, any chance that it has a wooden floor?
spence burge Part of it.
So cool
How or where did you get instructions on building that awesome little cart for the compressor and hose!?
+Jose Acosta-Vasquez I created those design plans myself using Google sketchup. I have a video of its construction on my channel and the plans can be found on my website. Check the description for a link to the site. You can search my channel for the DIY Roll around compressor cart.
Thanks so much for the video it really helps! ❤️
Swestyn Fam You bet. Thanks.
That cage is so small
+Freddy Lawrence Unfortunately everybody has to work within the space and budget in which they have. Neither myself nor my neighbor could make more of either.
U didn’t show how u made doors
Was that intro inspired by Norm McDonald.
a 4ft by 4ft is the appropriate cage size for 1rabbit those cages are way to small
And so all those little boys and girls with pet rabbits in their bedrooms are evil and cruel. Plus all those who do not have idea conditions or space are evil as well. Your comment looks at the world as black and white when really it is different shades of grey. so far I've heard 2x4, 4x4 8x8, 8x16 and rabbits should never be put in any size cage what so ever. I say work with what you've got and make the best of it.
Świetny talent aktorski.;-).
Sebastian Skalski Doceniam to, że dzięki
Sebastian Skalski Myślę, że on nie zrozumie po polsku
Puszek Gamer Rozumiem go, jak Google Translate robi.
Lol ok btw i speak english and polish
Puszek Gamer Awesome.
What type of nail gun are you using
Isaac Stone I used two different types. One was a narrow crown stapler and the other was a regular 18 gauge brad nailer.

I have a 4 by 6 hutch divided into 3 sections. Can that hold 2 rabbits in each 4 by 2 section?
+connor wall That depends on the breed of rabbits you have. Some are larger than others and therefore need more space than others. It also depends on what you believe is enough space for each rabbit and for what reason you are raising them. You have 6x4=24 sqft total. Divided by 6 rabbits leaves each rabbit with 4 sqft of space. Some people would probably crucify you for that. However I'm a little more pragmatic about it and say if that is the space you have to work with then I guess it will have to do. Hard and fast rules are pointless and do not take into account each persons unique situation.
OK thanks i was just thinking about getting rabbits.what breeds do you recommend?
+connor wall This depends on why you will be raising them and if you will be keeping them inside or out. If raising meat rabbits then I recommend the New Zealand or California white breed. They are large and fairly docile. Plus they are very common. You can usually find them locally by doing a simple search on Craigslist. If you want pets and will be keeping them inside I recommend the Himalayan or Chinchilla breeds.
ok thanks alot
i will probably get new Zealands
wont the rabbit get cold outside?
+Calvin Rock R U serious?
+Stan Sullivan im sorry im very stupid but wont they get cold living outside? orrr
+Calvin Rock Not stupid, it's hard to tell if someone is joking sometimes. Whether or not rabbits get cold in terms of how you and I feel cold I do not know. However, they have fir which will insulate them to some degree. They need shelter obviously to protect them from the open elements. In the wild they dig burrows. Domesticated rabbits, we provide the shelter in the form of a hutch. I live in Florida where the temperatures stay between 50 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit during the winter. If it gets to cold where someone lives then obviously they will want to take extra precautions for their animals during extreme temps.
+Stan Sullivan thanks so much
Great video! Do you have measurements? I always have a problem with the difference in height between the front and back....
Awesome video, though, your work looks great as always. 5 *****
cory bailey Yes, on the website. Link in description. Thanks.
How much money dose it cost
Ben60tts Depends on the material you use and how many you build. One individual unit ran about $30 or $40. One 3 unit block was about $100 and the two 3 unit blocks I built was around $200 give or take.
amazing
It's a nice hutch but isn't it to small?
Or it's just me that have a huge cage;)
Any way I leave a like
+wolfgirl I'm a big believer in run space over hutch space. A covered run that can be moved around the yard is more valuable than a static hutch of any size. I do not fault your comment however, because people view these videos with blinders on and rarely think beyond the scope of the project at hand.
good shit
do a run! ... please
+Reanna hall In the line up.
i thought i could make this but yknow what, its my dads job now
Where do you live
+Sofia Ramirez Florida
Oh nevermind i thought it was in new jersey
+Stan Sullivan same!
mesh floor is bad for bunnys
+Shelbie Brazil This comment has already been addressed. All they need is the ability to get off the mesh. That is what grass mats are for. Also, cardboard, a piece of wood or Plexiglas works too. God bless.
Okay it's a nice hutch Thoe
Lol This was funny
My rabbits eat the wood
All those fancy tools :(
Very nice
