I'm only 20, but I work at a small company as a mechanical engineer and this honestly made me think pretty deep about how I want to plan my future around my happiness. Thanks man the wise words as always!
@@ruskeee You don't have to already have a degree to be an engineer. I worked as an engineer in essentially an apprenticeship while I finished engineering school starting when I was 20.
@@ruskeee bro all a degree gon do is make you look more “appealing” then someone without one, at the end of the day if anything if someone with a degree applies at the same time as you only they might get picked over you😂
I’m currently waiting for my class to start and definitely needed to watch this. I’ve been been feeling pretty miserable for quite sometime. Definitely need some change in my life. Thanks Tedward, appreciate this video more than you know it!!
I was having a really bummy day recently, got my ass up and drove around for a couple hours and got photos along the way. Can't even express the way it instantly made me feel so much better. Definitely recommend it if you have the chance, even if you don't have a car hit up your friends, they might be needing that quick escape too.
Man I loved hearing this. Buying a ‘23 si this year and the financials have been stressing me out but it’s something I’ve been dreaming of this for years. This is a great reminder to pursue what I love
This video gave exactly what you intended it to be so beautifully. As someone who some of us see as a "successful guy", you became real with us and gave genuine heartfelt advise as to the reality of our everyday lives. It's always about the "One day i'm going to make it" mindset because we're so used to seeing the "zero to hero" trope being played out in the world around us via UA-cam, TikTok, Insta, etc. Which doesn't account for the fact that the vast majority of us will not have that story to played for ourselves. 0:40 was visceral. I felt how raw you were in the most casual way that you are when you said you're just starting to figure out how to make yourself happy. It hurts to know that these dreams of not having to work 9-5 sitting in an office just to keep the paychecks going will be a big portion of my life and that I myself will always keep chasing something bigger. It felt like someone talked to me about a shared relation even though we are nothing alike. Thanks for this video, need it :,)
This seriously resonates with me. I have a good job, pretty financially secure but feel miserable all the time. What you are saying is what I've been starting to realize over the past year or two as major life events have happened. It's good to hear validation of what's been on my mind for awhile. Thank you.
This summer my life changes. I’m starting an aviation maintenance internship and I’m overwhelmingly excited! I’m so excited for the future that my life holds. This is a huge step to working my dream job!
Beautiful message. At the end of the day, everyone has to find "their happy". And that is why I take my GT350 out any day the sun is shining. Appreciate your videos.
Four months ago I finally bought my first car, a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder Kia Morning, MANUAL. I have had my driver's licence for just over ten years, but I'd been putting off actually owning a vehicle, continually thinking exactly what you said--that I should have just a little more money saved before I take the plunge. Now I have learned to drive stick, and am enjoying ripping around in my very own car instead of just dreaming about it while watching UA-cam. Carpe the drive!
Knowing you, this therapy drive hits hard. Dead on the money start to finish. For you to take the time to record this with everything you're working on in CA, this had to be burning deep
Here's what's happening to Tedward: he's from the miserable northeast where the sun shines four minutes a day and he's in beautiful Southern California and the sun is filling him with enthusiasm, joy, and love for his fellow man(and dog). Enjoy your trip, sir, and try to remember these sentiments when you're back east.
I live in Poland where winters are cold and summers are really beatiful. I somehow find that i and generally other people are way more happy when it is sunny and warm day like in your video. Can't wait for spring to come :)
I’ve been needing this. I have wanted to start my own company for a while now building my own bicycles and expanding on the world of micro-mobility, but I’ve always said “oh, maybe after I get my degree”, or “oh, maybe after I find a stable job and get some disposable income it could become my side-hustle” - but that’s unsustainable. The ethos in that isn’t capable of allowing for human joy, and it’s time I started to listen to myself and go and live a more fulfilling lifestyle. Finding the romance in everyday life is quite hard, though, I will admit…
Amazinng video Tom! I'm glad you're startining to see more of a emotional payoff for all your work! Your videos always cheer me up whilst I'm eating before motervating me back into my work. Love you big guy! :))
Great video man, I really needed it today. I've been struggling lately because I've been living my life for someone else for years. Now that I've helped them get where they want to be, I realized that I'm not happy where I am. I kinda lost my identity along the way and put all my goals to the side for someone else. This is definitely the motivation I need to make some positive changes in my life. Thanks Tedward.
Well said man, I went full time on UA-cam at 29k subs. It was a massive risk but it paid off and I am happy. I totally understand what you mean about filming cars and it wearing you out sometimes you have to take a step back!
Totally agree with the 6:20 mindset thing. Vai to! Stop waiting for "till I have this or that". The thing is time's running out LIFE'S running out! Just enjoy life while you're alive, we think like we're gonna live tomorrow, we just might not, so just live while you can! 🫡
Listen, you are absolutely SPOT ON about taking advantage of your time-off from your jobs and how these corporations will literally fire you and replace you like you're nothing if it ever came to that. You said a lot of things here that definitely resonates with me. Btw, can we all take a moment and just adore the amazing view at 6:18? My goodness thats angelic!

The wife and I started a UA-cam channel and started to work on our project cars. we have a few, lol. Love working together, and we both love classic rides.
Along the same lines I think the biggest lesson I learned into my mid 30s, is that it's ok for the definition of your dreams to change. Sometimes that idea of your perfect trajectory changes as you grow older and your perspective on life changes. Trying to fit the current you to old you's ideal mold can be exhausting and demoralizing.
I really appreciate these types of videos because its been hard to get the ball rolling on some things in my life, and also hard to relate to many people at the moment. Videos like these always make my day a little better
This, and the video where you rant about the speed limit in America, are my all time favorites from this channel. Yeah, the cars you drive and review are great and all, but as a person who's just becoming an adult, these videos with insight and you expressing your opinion about life is priceless. Thank you Tedward.
This video and this channel is the absolute truth. I'm sure this hit hard for all engineers and corporate workers out there cranking out their 9-5's who are also car enthusiasts. Cali vibes are also unmatched, gotta love it! This channel will be even more successful in the upcoming years, this is only the beginning!
Recently I've been very introspective about this type of stuff, getting to the point in college where I am thinking about how I want my future to look. I enjoyed listening to your takes, it gave me some more perspective about the very things I'm worried about.
This takes me back. Was stationed at Camp Pendleton, there in Oceanside, from 1995- 2006 and drove those exact streets countless times! Great perspective and great car!
This was very nice to watch. You're basically doing what I loved doing in my old protege5, just cruising along whatever roads are closest to the Beach. It's great sometimes just to get out of the house, take a drive with the windows down, grab a coffee and vibe to some tunes.
I’m currently waiting for class to end this helped pass the time I really needed this thx Tedward as a high school student I really appreciate the advice
This was a great, grounded view on how to pursue the important things in life. The fact that it's being delivered in a Type-R in Cali is that perfect icing on the cake. Great vid brother.

@tedward I can listen to a podcast where you discuss life topics all day! Aside from your awesome automotive content, you’re humbleness is an inspiration ✌️
Love these types of videos. Last November I got hired in a software job that pays me well enough that I can just go enjoy myself without having to put too much thought into it. Leaving my last job was risky since this is an entirely new venture in a startup company but I just decided to just “do it.” Before I was stuck in the constant cycle of “no I don’t have enough money to do this or go here” but now I can now take 2 trips per year instead of 0. My dream of exploring the country and the world is slowly coming into fruition. And now I have a car I can mod to my heart’s content so I’m truly grateful
As a girl starting college I haven’t given too much thought about what I want to do, but what I’m expected to do. I started driving in a 9th gen slowvic and I know it’s more than what most people start in but it’s given me a taste for driving. I was attracted to your videos when I was learning how to drive a manual. Had to go through about ten different people to find a car to practice with. It’s impossible to get what I want when I’m just starting out in life, but I’m beginning to get familiar with the process on my free time, making connections and that’s what makes me happy. I definitely wanna see some stuff before the world goes to shit and I wanna do it in a nice reliable car.
thank you so much for this video i’ve been putting off so many things and i was just waiting for the moment to hit me and i felt like this was that moment to start i have been looking at life in such a negative way since starting my job but i want change and i think it’s time
This is honestly great. I just booked a hotel last night to go on my first solo trip in April using the mindset of "I just want to go" instead of putting it off for one reason or another. ^^
Just moved from US to Finland for many of the reasons you stated. Part of being happy is also investing in your everyday and not saving up for vacation or big purchases. Many people put up with long commutes or worse communities to chase a bigger paycheck or larger house. A smaller home in a better (hopefully walkable) community, with a shorter commute will do more to increase happiness than an extra week of paid vacation per year. That's just one example to make a larger point: the need for a vacation (read: de-stressing) is directly proportional to the stress you experience each day. So make sure to have your everyday in order, even if it means a pay cut or fewer material possessions.
Great video Tedward, definitely needed to hear this in the morning. What I’ve learned over the years is learn to be happy with what you have now rather than waiting to find happiness in things that’ll come in the future. Glad to hear where you came from and seeing where you are now, it’s inspiring!
I see it like that: it is good to both validate your struggles and to see positive things in our lives. This video was really helpful to bring up some important questions and ideas. Thank you and stay happy!
Amazing video! I'm genuinely gonna take this to heart and I think I speak for a lot of your viewers when I say I am really grateful that I have your videos to watch in my spare time. Thank Tedward going to stop waiting and make the best of what I've got amazing video as always.
Really nice video. Not only do I love the car (I am a K series owner as well), I really respect your mindset and your outlook on life. This video helps people. Keep it up
Actually your driving the car I want to buy in the near future. Please remember you are very blessed to be doing what you do. I know it is still work, but I hope you enjoy it. Because you are 100% correct about layoff's. I went through my share in 2009, and I am afraid there will be more this year or early next year for some folks. Keep up the good work.
I really appreciate your wise words as I enjoyed the iconic views in your video! Being a car lover, I aspire to do what you're doing one day, but I understand how much effort it takes to deliver the high-quality videos that we watch and enjoy. Though I may pursue my own path, the car community will always hold a special place in my heart and I'll continue to enjoy going for drives.
i’m at home just thinking about where I would be in 5 years and yes things like this is what makes me smile because your right their ain’t gonna be more money or more time if you don’t do it now you might not get to later
Words of Wisdom Tedward!!!👍👍👍 Since you’re out in Calif…just a suggestion for you…perhaps a drive to Carmel. Laguna Seca,Beautiful drive back to Southern California on Highway 1,etc. Clint Eastwood owns a hotel in Carmel that allows you to dine overlooking a meadow of his PET sheep and a view of the coast beyond. It’s raining this coming week but maybe the week following? Having said that…as you said…everyone needs to find their happy place and a lot of times they’re free! A sunrise, sunset,a drive anywhere, etc. I’ll close with Carroll Shelby’s thoughts regarding watching his cars being trailered around…used to piss him off because he built them to be driven! So…if you own a performance car…no matter how collectible/rare…get out and enjoy it every chance you get!!! Tomorrow is promised to no one…
Honda: you have some home runs lately. Now I have decided to get the 23 touring accord after my accident with my civic. The only thing I wish is that these dealer markups don't make these cars so rare. This new generation of civics type r are fucking nice. It's the car that says, I want to have fun and chill in car meets with my friends. Why can't cars just be fun anymore, sure tech is cool and all but the handling, engine and seat comfort. Please i ask you, do not buy these cars at markups
What are the odds, this type of conversation I have with myself almost everyday and I even applied some of it to my life. Life is tricky man, and depends a lot on your interpretation of it, most of the time chasing your dreams and making progress towards them is 10 times better than the actual dreams fulfilled. A lot of the nice things that are present in your life right now you are taking them for granted and one day you will miss them if for some reason they are taken from you. Be proactive about finding joy, take steps, planning is fine but you have to act on it, even if it's not a perfect plan it beats doing nothing.
Hello Tedward! I've been watching your video for a long time, and this is my first comment. I definately agree with you, most of us will not be a millionare, all we need to do is get a tank of gas, take several days and run away to wherever we haven't been to before. And this is what I'm now planning to do.
Ted, this video was incredible. Great advice, great mindset, you’re a very down to earth guy. Life is short and risk taking is scary but a huge part of life and success. I’m glad you took the risk and you deserve all the success you’ve found. Cheers from Colorado:)
Man, ive ben putting off buying a type r for awhile im working towards it, but I still have the same excuse everytime i get close to being able to do it. But after watching your video it made me realize how fast life goes by, the type r is my dream car, ive wanted one since I was young, but couldnt afford it till now, just never pulled the trigger because im always worrying about the "what if's" so im just gonna do it and not look back. Thank you ted 🙏
This video is what I needed. I have been kind of down lately and I always find enjoyment in your videos, specifically the FL5 ones recently. As an owner of an Sti hatch, that thing makes me super happy but I always feel like I need more in life. I want to travel, I want to explore the country, I want to be able to do what I want to do whenever and like you said, just make the time for it. It always comes back to money though, it's tough to do what I wanna do and make the most out of life even though my life motto is "Live in the now". One day I hope to be able to live my life to 100%
man... thanks for the vid it changed so much my way of thinking has changed dramtically and yoyr words might change my life Listen man YOU DESERVE THAT SUBSCRIBE bro i respect you so much just thanks
I am actually in the middle of switching jobs in the middle of a pursuit for some purpose (also in an engineering field), what great video, and thank you!
YESS! I'm on the journey to my happiness too. yoy said everything I am first started doing. cruising, making money driving, and using that invested money to get me tools to work on my car. start a UA-cam and do that. enjoy life free. and I'll happily put in the work cause it is for myself. thanks you. made this video at a perfect time.
The fiance and I are going to Montreal it's been almost two years since we did a vacation. I am so looking forward to our first formula 1 race but we both need to get away. You are absolutely correct about vacation.
I know not everyone has the opportunity to take time off, but if you can, go for it. I'm an IT tech for a school district. Our work calendar runs from mid-July to mid-June of the following year. 240 work day employees get about a month off. I'm fortunate that I'm in that position, but I also take time off during the school year: mainly during Thanksgiving and winter break. At first, I felt guilty for taking time off. Then, I realized: I'm pretty sure I'm doing my job well enough. My teachers and staff are happy (to my knowledge), with the tech support I've given them and I do all my job duties that are assigned to me. No big deal in taking time off. Of course, I always do as much work as I can before hand so that it doesn't accumulate too much for the rest of my team.
This was great video. I have a corporate 9-5 job and would rather do what you’re doing but it’s hard to start a UA-cam channel right now and gain any traction.
Hey Tedward! Thanks for the insightful video! It was awesome hearing your perspective! I live right near where you shot this video and as a 36 year old middle wage earner just kinda wanted to drop my perspective. I'm an avionics engineer I make mid 80k a year and am single and definitely am not ever planning on being in another relationship for my foreseeable future "Was married once but have no kids so got off easy". For me, trying to own a home takes up a vast majority of finances and being a car enthusiast as we all know is certainly not cheap. I've traveled all through out the world after college in my 20's and I'm just done with that kinda stuff... Been there done that kinda deal, and maybe that will change in my 50's, 60's idk maybe one day. But for now I really enjoy taking the occasional one or 2 random days off per month. I don't feel the need for a 2 week vacation in cabo or hawaii, again I've done that. What I do though, is on those days off, I'll take a Friday and prep my car that weekend for a track day "swap fluids, change rotors and pads, torque stripe crucial hardware, e.t.c" and rip the Miata on Saturday at willow springs or something. That's more than enough relaxation for me. What I have noticed is that since my mid 20's being back in the U.S, I am always being "talked to" about my vacation usage. Corporate companies HATE when you use a day off here and there. I've been brought to HR regarding this, "why don't I save 2 weeks here and there e.t.c" and it's ridiculous. This isn't just at one particular company but every company I've been with. I always have to explain myself when it comes to this. WTF is up with that? It's my vacation time why tf do they care how I use it... BTW, If you're gonna be in Cali and feel like checking out a cool Miata, I can make that happen hahaha!
I'm only 20, but I work at a small company as a mechanical engineer and this honestly made me think pretty deep about how I want to plan my future around my happiness. Thanks man the wise words as always!
You should go into lesbian dance theory instead honestly a much more lucrative career path

I also live in MA and I used to love doing solo road trips in Maine. A tank of gas can be all you need for a vacation, great advice.
wow, just wow
Amazing video! Just amazing!
thank you so much for this video i’ve been putting off so many things and i was just waiting for the moment to hit me and i felt like this was that moment to start i have been looking at life in such a negative way since starting my job but i want change and i think it’s time
man, I used to live there... and used to make that drive all the time. it was like memory lanes. great motivative drive. thanks!
Thank you for the great words Tedward! I hope your day(s) are going great! Would love to see you review the GR86 if you have the time!
I love when you make these kinds of vids Tom! Just driving around and chatting about life. Keep up the great work :D
Living the dream
Amazing video! I'm genuinely gonna take this to heart and I think I speak for a lot of your viewers when I say I am really grateful that I have your videos to watch in my spare time. Thank Tedward going to stop waiting and make the best of what I've got amazing video as always.
Not a Type R but I can't wait to get my 2011 Si back
Really nice video.
Though I may pursue my own path, the car community will always hold a special place in my heart and I'll continue to enjoy going for drives.
this channel is hands down the best ever lol
Post vacation depression sucks so I just stay depressed at office always!
I needed to watch this. Work has been a load of barnacles lately. I have been feeling tired first thing in the morning. I need to make a change!
i’m at home just thinking about where I would be in 5 years and yes things like this is what makes me smile because your right their ain’t gonna be more money or more time if you don’t do it now you might not get to later
Love that area. Carlsbad is wonderful too. Hard not to be happy around there!
You should do more of these!
Im so glad you left your previous job ;)
Meeeeeee too!
I’ve been watching your videos for years … I’ve always appreciated these little rants of wisdom. I love you man haha
Love the positive message Tedward, so true!
Man this is the dream. Driving a nice car on a beautiful sunny day by the beach.
Ted, this video was incredible. Great advice, great mindset, you’re a very down to earth guy. Life is short and risk taking is scary but a huge part of life and success. I’m glad you took the risk and you deserve all the success you’ve found. Cheers from Colorado:)
3:23 nice reaction to the movement of the child there.
I love you, man. Thanks for making these videos, as a car enthusiast, as a human, as a subscriber. Thank you
Brilliant video, in one of my favorite places in the US. Thanks for this
how have i only just seen this! Great video and wonderful message Ted, Thank you!
One day I hope to be able to live my life to 100%
I love this type of video. Please do more of this!
man... thanks for the vid
it changed so much
my way of thinking has changed dramtically and yoyr words might change my life
Listen man
YOU DESERVE THAT SUBSCRIBE
bro i respect you so much just thanks
I am actually in the middle of switching jobs in the middle of a pursuit for some purpose (also in an engineering field), what great video, and thank you!
YESS! I'm on the journey to my happiness too. yoy said everything I am first started doing. cruising, making money driving, and using that invested money to get me tools to work on my car. start a UA-cam and do that. enjoy life free. and I'll happily put in the work cause it is for myself. thanks you. made this video at a perfect time.
This video was so surreal due to the amount of times I've cruised down that exact road
I missed the therapy drives. Glad that you're back to doing these. Thanks for more great content
Sage Tedward. This is what separates you from the rest.
The fiance and I are going to Montreal it's been almost two years since we did a vacation. I am so looking forward to our first formula 1 race but we both need to get away. You are absolutely correct about vacation.
love these types of videos Tedward! Lot of truth said here
Thank you for this video came at a perfect time
I know not everyone has the opportunity to take time off, but if you can, go for it.
Love a good tedward video
I came for a 10 minutes chill drive and got a life lesson. Thanks a lot Mr. Tedward :)
thank you for this video
