- This Drexel triple dresser had good bones, but was pretty beat up with scratches and deep gouges. I decided to strip the top and refinish it with a light paint wash and then paint out the body in a soft neutral color.
For the body, I settled on Anew Gray by Sherwin Williams. It is a mellow mid tone warm gray. I left the three cubbies behind the middle doors natural wood and just did a light sand and toned them with a fresh coat of gel stain in Nutmeg and resealed them. For the top, after I sanded to raw, I applied a paint wash in the Anew Gray followed by a tan wash with Algonquin by Fusion Mineral Paint. I sealed the top with General Finishes High Performance Topcoat in Flat. The hardware was cleaned and recoated in a brushed gold. Finally, I lined the drawers in a fun drawer liner for a whimsical touch.

Beautiful just wish you would have shown the look of middle drawers, since you didn't paint them, curious how you finish them. Love the way it turned out.
You know what…you’re right, I totally forgot to show the inside! 🤦♀️ Here's a video with a few shots. ⤵
I refreshed the drawers by scuff sanding & applying gel stain then sealed.
@@ivylaneinteriors really like that look beautiful piece
I love it love it love it I'm 73 so I can't do this anymore I've done Furniture in my whole house flip furniture for my house you keep up the good work and I'll keep watching
Aw, thanks Dorothy! Glad you’re here!
I love what you are doing. As a young girl I use to do the same. It is so beautiful to put all your love into something you are going to make it look better, prettier. Your work is excellent. At 77 I am still going and thinking about working on making things beautiful like you are doing. Continue the work. Is so rewarding.
You should do it! I think work like this keeps me young. Lots of bending and lifting 😅
This came out gorgeous, very classy looking! I watch a LOT of furniture makeovers and while most outcomes are great, very few are pieces I'd want in my house. This I'd want in my house. I was not hopeful for a great outcome since these Drexel makeovers can be very hit or miss, but WOW, that's just gorgeous. UA-cam just suggested this video so it's my first video of yours, and I'm definitely subscribing and off to watch all your other videos now.
Well, thank you SO much for the kind words. 🫶
Same for me...would love to have this...beautiful!

Well, thank you very much! ☺️🤩
We're about to move to South Carolina and want to paint our dresser and night tables in a coastal style. They look very much like this. Wish me luck!
You can do it!!
You did a WONDERFUL JOB!!!! The paint, to me, looks White!!!!
Thank you! Yes, it’s very close to white ☺️
Congra to you by using the same pulls. The same pulls, gives it a beautiful newness it dont .makes old. To the contrary, veryyyyyyy BEATIFUL. THANKS
I agree! Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
Absolutely beautiful x💕🏴
Thank you! 🤩
First time I have seen you. Nice work, beautiful color too. The piece looks fab!🎉😅❤
Aw, thank you! ☺️
glad a time will come when someone strips the paint off of this beautiful piece of Drexel furniture.
That’s the cool thing about wood - you can change it. Paint it, re-stain it, paint wash it. Not all furniture needs to be wood. An eclectic mix in a home is good, but to each their own.
@janetanneravens2320 I absolutely agree with you! Dreadful putting paint on REAL wood that is in fabulous condition! Makes it look like a particle board piece. 😢
I noticed that you really put effort into your preparation. Good to see.
Thank you!
A truely beautiful piece. I respect and admire your attention to detail in all aspects of this project. Enjoyable video😌
Thank you very much!🤩
Beautiful!!! I just bought something similar from the goodwill with two nightstands and a mirror for $128. More than I ever spent at a goodwill but the pieces are stunning! They don’t even need to be painted.
That is awesome!
Turned out fabulous. I lv it.😊
Thank you!

Beautiful! I have a Henredon dresser in a really dated cherry finish, but it is amazing quality so I'm never getting rid of it. This gives me some inspiration!
Oh yes, Henredon is a fabulous brand. You could always refinish it!

I LOVE painted furniture, I used to do it myself ( also decoupage ) but now I’m confined to a little 1 bed flat with no garden, I am prevented from continuing this hobby. You really improved the look of this cabinet/ dresser, well done!
Thanks so much!
Beautiful job!
Aw, thank you!
love it!

Very beautiful!
Thank you very much!
This is really beautiful! I love the idea of taping the screw in place. And it was a good reminder to sand the tops and sides of the drawers to bare wood to alleviate the drawers sticking once painted. Curious why you hand sanded the top. Is it because of the dreaded pigtail swirls? Those swirls are the bane of my existence!!! I can’t avoid them with my Surfprep no what what. Grrr.
Thanks so much! Yes, I always hand sand the last grit to make sure there are no swirls. I still miss them sometimes 🥴
Beautiful.
Thanks so much!
Beautiful Job...Lefty❤

Love this!!! Subscribed immediately! I want to try this on my nightstands which have some water damage to the top. You make it look so easy which I know it’s not lol!

Great video! Im about to start filming my latest thrift find - a 60s bar cart!! 😊
Awesome! I haven’t done a bar cart yet!
Nice!
Thank you!!
Colour is great. Handles are beautiful. I’m not a fan of only staining/painting washing the very top instead of the whole top piece.
Thanks! Gotcha 👍🏼
Absolutely beautiful.. On screen the paint looks white but I totally love it! Thank you for sharing! Btw I just found you.. ❤
Aw, thank you! Yes, it is very light until you see it against a white background. It’s one of my favorites. 🤩
Mycket fint 🤗

You really got me with the thumbnail. 🙈 I was so confused because the "before" looked amazing. But your final result looks even better! Love it!

Wunderschön!

Very very nice 👍

Nice job
Thanks! 🤩
In addition to an awesome job, I like your filming 🎥 and voice too!
Personally not my style but you did a wonderful job with it. If it were me I would've re-stained it slightly darker and done something more interesting with the top of the dresser. And replace the hardware with something modern.
There are so many different directions you can go with a piece. Deciding is half the battle. ☺️
Un capolavoro
Aw, thank you!
So pretty! Thank you for the tip of putting a nail in the hole where the hardware is. It also will prevent paint from getting in the holes. Is there a reason you hand sanded the top verses the sander? Also, what program do you use to make your video? I’m struggling with that. I really want to post videos of my projects and tutorials. Yours is so well done!!!! Does someone videotape you or are you taping yourself? I’m trying to figure that out too. Because it’s just me. Thank you so much! Awesome video all around. And beautiful work on the dresser!
Thank you! That’s a lot to unpack…☺️ First, I hand sand the last grit to make sure there are no sanding swirls. I use CapCut to edit my videos. I video by myself so it’s kinda hard. I’m still learning and tweaking my workflow.
The dresser is beautiful!!! What can you tell me about the picture above the dresser?
Thank you! Oh gosh, I’ve had that print forever. I looked it up and here’s the name Surya LJ-4130 Wall Art Small Lapis Paisley III (PV) Blue 27" x 27"
Not my personal style but it’s absolutely beautiful whereas before even when new it wasn’t a very attractive piece. The white color makes the architectural shape of the piece more interesting. The gold hardware stands out more against the white than the original wood color. Surprisingly I do like the tan top.
Well, thank you! ☺️
Wow such quality work and Very informative. It turned out beautiful! Thanks for sharing color...what type of SW paint did you use? Was it Emerald?
Thank you! Yes, Sherwin Williams Emerald Trim Enamel Urethane
I was so mad I subscribed 😂
Ha! Well, I've angered a few people 😅 Glad you're here! 🤩
What wood is that? Maybe pecan? One problem I run into when trying to whitewash over oak is bleeding. So I always end up needing to apply bin clear shellac first or a 50/50 application of poly and water.
At some point you probably have to hand paint your drawer edges on top. Right?
Nice finish.
Yes, I was thinking pecan too. I also use the clear shellac on certain woods before the washes. I just did a mahogany and used the clear shellac spray before a white wash and tan wash. I think it also helps the wash go on smoother and less blotchy. Yes, sometimes I hand paint the edges and sometimes I use a piece of cardboard to catch the overspray and just spray them with my sprayer.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you!
Love it. Is there a reason you used two different color washes? Did the first wash not do what you wanted or was it for another reason. Either way I think this is stunning.
I often do a white wash first just to even out the wood tones and then the tan wash to warm it up. Thank you!
😍👏👏👏
Thank you!
Nice project but I have never seen somebody making their work do complicated with scraping and hand sanding etc. You can use 80 Grit paper to start or use a sander and the final sanding you can do by hand with the grain of the wood.
Thank you! Yes, I looked back and realized I said 120, but I do usually start with 80. Scraping is just so much quicker then stripper on a flat surface. I have been known to make things more difficult than they need to be though. 🥴😅
It breaks my heart to see people paint over beautiful wood. IMO - paint is for when the wood is unsalvagable.
Oh gosh, I knew some people might be upset about this one. I both paint and refinish. It really depends on the piece. I kept the wood top and the middle drawers! 😬☺️
Pretty! I thought you didn't paint the middle?
Thank you! Sorry, I meant it didn’t paint the drawers behind the doors. The little cubbies. I hope that makes sense. ☺️
@ivylaneinteriors oh ok! Makes sense!
I couldn’t hear you. What kind of alcohol did you say for your spray bottle mix? ❤
I use a 50:50 mixture of water and denatured alcohol for a final clean.
@@ivylaneinteriors thank you for getting back to me. 😊
@@lizzyb.3482 of course! 🙌🏼
nice way to set yourself up to cut your arm off with that saw. please be safe and get a saw table
I know, that camera angle makes it looks so dangerous. 🫣 I will be more careful
I can’t see the video
I'm not sure. It's working on my end.
Extremely painful watching you paint that wood.
Oh gosh, well, I left some wood. ☺️This one might make you feel better: Should I paint or refinish this dresser? 🤷♀️| Dresser flip | #furnitureflip #furnituremakeover
