  • WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A HIGHLY SENSITIVE PERSON?
    A highly sensitive person (HSP) is a term for those who are thought to have an increased or deeper central nervous system sensitivity to physical, emotional, or social stimuli. Some refer to this as having sensory processing sensitivity, or SPS for short. If you want to read more about being a highly sensitive person or introvert, I recommend the books below!

    I always felt like I was sponge to other people's emotions so socialising, although enjoyable, always made me feel like I needed a day to recover. Therapy led me to the realisation that I am really sensitive and helped me find ways to keep boundaries in place.
    It sure sucked to hear people discredit my feelings on certain things, saying that it was bizarre and that most people felt the opposite.

      Yes it's odd that some people insist on denying your experience, just because they haven't had it themselves! Sometimes it can be explained to people, but sometimes they'll just never understand.

    Nature walks, Good quality sleep, i.e Sleeping in a completely dark, quiet and well ventilated room, eating well including eating dark chocolate has helped me a lot. Never try to changes ourselves but we can train to adjust our mindsets when in an unpleasant circumstance! Also knowing our triggers and learn to say NO to ourselves, to things that we know will make us very exhausted, mentally and emotionally. In general, good quality of life. We must listen to our bodies and our minds and respond accordingly!

    HSP and HSS (high-sensation-seeker) Motorbikes and skydiving (mainly canopy flying) does it for me. Really hard to explain but very relaxing and satisfying.

      Same here. I'm a terrible free flyer but I can do hop n' pops all day. I'm actually thinking about taking a paramotor class, and of course motorcycles :)

    You are very fortunate to have found this characteristic in yourself at such a young age. It wasn't easy understanding all the things that you are describing through an entire life, and only finding these things out later on. Working and the various 'band aids' of life can keep you buried in other complications than self discovery. Sensitive people are about all that I can handle being around any more. They're more interesting, more loyal and don't add drama. They have a depth. Thank you for sharing.

    Wow, I never knew this was a thing - this actually describes me pretty scary accurately. I always just referred to myself as being "linear" (ie - I can hyper focus on one thing and do that one thing perfect, but if I have to focus on two things at once, I can only do them both mediocre). Even now, if I get lost on my bike, I have to immediately lower the music volume on my Sena so that I can focus on where I am going - it's annoying in some ways, but I also know at singular activities (like say drawing/sketching), I can totally out-focus a lot of other people. I agree riding is super great for this.

      Yes I find it to be a good thing! It can make multitasking pretty ineffective, but it's excellent for focus heavy skills. And being detail-oriented!

    Riding a bike is like mindfulness, like therapy for me. I’m an introverted man with high sensitivity. We live in a world full of noise and distractions. Technology evolves very quickly, our brains don’t. They are still the same as 10,000 years ago. Sometimes it’s hard to let people know that you're high sensitive as a man. Another good book: Busy by Tony Crabbe. It is a very popular book here in The Netherlands and really helped me to have a clear mind.
    I’ve been following your UA-cam channel for a while Meghan and I love your content. It’s great to hear a motorcyclist talk about such a vulnerable subject! Thank you!

    Meghan, awsome that you found a breakthrough for you. I'm not that sensitive, but I respect others I know that are. Hard to put two sensitive peeps together. Keep doing all your're doing; you're doing that thing we all wish we could do. Thanks for making your videos!

    Stimulus is something that widely described by those who rely what generally others can see as well. When it comes to the type of energy that you and around you represents, generally the HSP people can feel the difference. Since you understand how yoga meditation can benefit you, your energy sensory is heightened somewhat. You feel the heaviness or euphoric lifting by just being around the people you talk to. You may proceed to readings about how other people types of aura energy has effect on you that could change how you feel, whenever you are ready to explore. I salute to your awareness, Megan!

    I had a similar experience finding out I’m on the spectrum late in life after many horrifying misdiagnoses.
    My personality is an extrovert.
    But my neurological make-up makes me feel overwhelmed by social interactions, especially at work. That’s where being an HSP is the worst. In the work place.
    Check out the book Neurodivergent Mind by Jenara Nerenberg. I think you will really love it.
    Thank you for sharing this Meghan! I’m so happy that neurodiversity is finally being recognized! 😊

    This is the first time I've heard of this. But, I think I am. I'm finding it hard to ride too. I'm just starting off. And I used to be agoraphobic. Been back working for 8 years but I still can't travel by my self too far. Like 45min tops. even in a car, I was hoping the motorcycle would be easier (not in my head too much). I'm still trying to figure it out. I had to cut out caffeine as well. Thanks for the info!

    Meghan, I came across your video while hunting for female ride content/ training info. Trying to regain my riding confidence after an unrelated concussion injury. Your video was very honest and struck a core as I'm now often overwhelmed by 'too much' contact and conversation since the injury. Thanks for putting yourself out there. PS love your sweatshirt, where's it from?

    • @MeghanStark
      @MeghanStark  3 роки тому

      I just looked that up and it seems like maybe an extreme example of high sensitivity, or at least how someone reacts to their sensitivity. I wouldn't doubt that they're related! It takes a lot to truly irritate me from just everyday stuff 😅

    What is the difference between a HSP, and an Empath?

    • @MeghanStark
      @MeghanStark  3 роки тому

      Empaths are typically people who are aware of specifically the emotions around them, even to the extent that they absorb some of that energy themselves and feel a degree of it. There's often an overlap between these types of people, but HSP encapsulates sensitivity to a lot of different stimuli or sensations outside of emotions, like color, sound, taste, etc.

    Funny, I do recognize some things about this oh wise Guru Meghan. XDDD For me it is that I feel energy/vibes in a room or on a person.
    I think quite some people have some traits of this, same with ADD which i'm totally fine with afcourse, not attacking anyone. ^_^

    Well if a person sits around all day thinking only of themselves and what can make them happy I can see where that might be a problem for them, that's why I take care of things and don't dilly dally, get a life. I have no idea why this crap popped up on my page?, wow I bet that sounded highly sensitive didn't it? ( :
