Our Garden is gross, but we have big dreams.
This Kitchen is dusty, but we have a strong vision.
The Bathroom, actually I kind of dig the violet…. Ok maybe not, but we have colossal ambitions for it.
We are dreamers, Daydreamers mainly as we are too busy renovating to actually sleep in. Making this dust bucket of a house a dream to live in takes some creative thinking and to achieve this we need to remove the rot (literally in some places) and finish re-inforcing our old gal.
The demolition at No4 is peaking. It’s a crazy, dirty, dusty, labour intensive time and it’s taking a lot of willpower to not just pack up and give up.
So whats been going on? Let’s start in our Kitchen. We are extending out to the side and this wall is very much in the way. But before we can remove it we need even more steels. One went in, a real chonky pillar this one, and sitting on them another 2 went up. Then came the fun part, smashing down this wall. *bing bang bosh and the wicked wall was dead. And to finish the carnage down here, we added a 4th steel across, which has enabled us to knock out the wall connecting the study to the kitchen, which in the long term will be our main entrance into our much bigger kitchen space? What do you think, makes a big difference right? Demolition is actually really fun mind.
Now there are some pretty decent benefits to doing this actually, one being we can now make this a cavity wall like the back wall, and two, Paloma can toy with her dream of a round stained glass window in this space. And as our builder was bricking this wall back up, we really needed to plan this in.
*Pal scene on round window?
Calling the decision on this round window mayhem would be an understatement. We’re fully in our decision fatigue era of the renovation and deciding on a round window was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Which is why you find me here, at 7am, after a week of dithering, making a template for the window half an hour before it was to be installed.
Down in the garden, it’s become a real dumping ground *Vids of us chucking stuff off roof and wood out of window. So to progress here we really need a clean up.
And with the garden a little more respectable we can start dreaming of the creative studio at the back.
Our idea was to have a woodworking shop, so we can get messy, dusty and creative without ruining our newly renovated home. We needed planning permission for this, so turned to our trusty architect from Bespoke Living to lend us a helping hand with the application and come up with a beautiful idea…
So here it is, in all it’s glory!
We still haven’t figured out the best way to build this room or sauna - we’ve heard of flat pack kits that seem straightforward, but cost a pretty penny, but also think we could maybe managed to make a timber framed structure ourselves? If you have any experience with building a structure like this, do let us know which you think we should go with and help us plan the perfect garden studio!
Our dreams at No4 are starting to take on a primitive form and we can’t wait to continue our goals of making this a reality, big things are coming up so make sure you are subscribed so we can ride this dusty wave together as we continue, by hook or crook, making the house of our dreams. Enjoy Jenna Phipps, Nicky and Harry, Kinging It, Eamon and Bec, Escape to the Chateau or martijn doolaard, then you might like this!

As a finn, I suggest you have a shower next to the Sauna. You dont want to run back to the house for shower. A drain is a must in the Sauna so it can be cleaned easily! PS we often build the sauna cottage before we build the house..lol
Ohhh thank you for these tips!! Really useful to know. We were hoping to integrate a shower somewhere, just haven't quite decided on the location just yet. Have you got any recommendations on what's the best way to power it?
@@RestoringNumberFour wood fired saunas produce more radiant heat then electrical saunas and have deeper sense of relaxation. Wood burning sauna stove are cheaper in use most of the time. Some countries or cities might have restrictions for wood burning stoves. So you need to check before buying.
@@lonelyrider606 Ahh this is great to know, thank you so much!
I vote for the green stained glass window
Ahh it's our fave currently too! Any thoughts on the garden studio? 🙌🧡
@@RestoringNumberFour I love the garden studio workshop. if you are going to be doing dusty / stinky things in there have you considered an extractor? You can't always keep the windows wide open. I can't comment on the sauna as that's really not my thing!
I am voting for the green-glass-window. It’s gonna look amazing!
I thibj that's my fave too, thanks so much!
Good on you, Chris, for seeking out some support during a challenging time.
You both have done such alot of work in the garden, you've cleared so much!! It must be a great feeling to be able to see all your hard work paying off.
I like the look of your studio & garden. You two are the ones who will be utilizing it all, so its really about what you both want/need from the spaces.
Lol its funny watching your nosy neighbors in the videos, sneaking into the open house like a cat burgler, i think theres 1 or 2 that are hoping to move in once your finished the reno😅
Thank you so much Julie! It's is definitely feeling wonderfult o start seein git all take shape. And we definitely will be having more frequent nosy neighbour visits once thre's less banging around - the black on is getting especially friendly!
@RestoringNumberFour hahaha yes, he looks like he's claiming the up stairs room.
Just don’t know where you get your energy from - I’m tired just watching you! Such an amazing job though - love watching the progress
Hey Nina!
Ahh thanks, we defo have our uos and downs with energy, but we have not had a choice but to make rapid progress over the last few weeks , to hit deadlines, but maybe we can treat ourselves to a slow week for once next week 😅🧡
That Round window in the bathroom gives it so much character going to look great , Are you haveing a downstairs wc for guest etc . . It’s comeing along nicely 😀😀
Hehe thank you! Yes there will be a downstairs toilet in the utility nook 😊
I think either the green or the middle window look great! I like the middle design the best, but the green color scheme.
If you love Sauna then i would put in the Sauna for sure. I love Sauna and do it every day when available. If the space is small and well insulated an electric sauna heater can work well.
Ohh we'll hvae to try the middle design in green to see what it looks like! We also are big sauna fans and use it most days at the local gym, so we think it will definitely be something we would use often! Thanks for watching Logan!
What a wonderful job you're doing! Yes to the workshop and a sauna sounds like the perfect reward for all your hard work.
Hey Petra! Yes the Sauna sounds a real winner doesn't it, just think how much pur muscles would appreciate thay after all these hards days of grafting 😅🧡
love the more frequent upload
Haha now let's try and keep this up 😅🧡
Oh I make stained glass and I liked the one on the right, something watery and dreamy
What an amazing skill to have! I would love to give it a go myself, but finding the time is the issue 😅
I think because it's a bathroom maybe the water scene? Looking great guys! Well done
It could be quite fitting couldn't it!
Get an infrared sauna itl help with the knee! And they are very cool, left hand for the stained glass window the green pops!
0:12 ok THAT bathroom window is BEAUTIFUL! On Instagram I voted #1 and #2 design but if #2 had different colors like green, but when I said 0:12, THAT'S SO beautiful!!!!!!
Haha nice to get a different view of it isn't it! Couple of people say it might look granny-ish, but all about how it works with the rest of a modern victorian room right?! 🙌🧡
@@RestoringNumberFour hey hang on some of my best friends are grannies...all with excellent taste!
I really love the second stained glass window but I think number one is best for the bathroom. It’s really pretty as well.
An ice bath/cold plunge near the sauna. Living the dream!
We use our gym sauna so regularly, would also install our own when we have a garden.
I dont think saunas are expensive to run as only cost when in use - not like hot tubs that need to be on constantly, or steam rooms that must be used to prevent mould.
I think a sauna is a fantastic idea! It’ll be amazing especially for winter months. Lots of people use theirs for years and years. I’m currently looking into buying one
It is inspiring to see you keep grafting and creating a home fpr yourselves!
I would have to disagree with those saying that you should not add a sauna. With that being said, unless you get a good stove (having a wooden stove with stones on top is always a good bet) you might not enjoy the experience as much and then in the long run not use the sauna as much.
You should be able to build the structure for the sauna yourselves, just make sure to do some research regarding the insulation and what wood to use on the inside since this will ensure you get the best experience.
As a Swede who has also lived in England I would say that you, same as us, have the perfect weather for a sauna. Sure, it is great in the wintertime but also imagine a rainy cold summers day when you can sit in the sauna and then just step outside to cool off in the rain. Plus, hitting the sauna can really help with clearing your head after a busy day. I say go for it!
Great vlog guys. I wish I had half of your energy. Am loving being on this adventure with you and can't wait to be chilling in the garden with a Pimms😁
Aww thank you! haha we'll have to do a live stream of the first sunny day in the finished garden, pimms mandatory for all! 😂
Good to see Bella guarding the house from those pesky nosey neighbours! This video really clearly lays everything out and shows just what work horses you are. Well done ⚒🪛🔧🔨🪟🪒🚿
Haha she's got a keen eye for those pesky neighbours!
smashing it! That round window is only going to pay dividend in enjoyment for years.
Love your content as always! Super excited to see the inside take shape! The sauna is also a brilliant idea! An outdoor shower near the sauna would also be awesome. Can’t wait to see the evolution 🙏🏾☀️
looks so much fun she will be a princess again number 4 will be the best castle in the street
The middle one is my vote for the stained glass window.
The garden studio design looks so cool!
Clearing out the back garden will make you feel so much better, so much hard labor though! When we remodeled our house we took out so much cement, our backyard looked like we had a full ocean jetty in it, so much hard labor too!
It sure would! We've been meaning to do it for so long, and even just clearing this small bit has been so satisfying! It's just getting skips in often enough to keep the momentum. Digging is really hard, but very satisfying!
Definitley build the outhouse yourself! After seeing what you have done so far you would do a great job!
I love the sun/ sea window and the middle window ! Also loving the back garden and the workshop!
You guys rock ! and your both so calm ❤❤
Thank you so much Jan! Getting there and so excited to be able to enjoy these spaces once their up and running!
A sauna in the winter sounds lovely. I've never been a big sauna user, find it too hard to breathe in them, but I very much like the idea of them. The nicest one I've used was on an island just outside Gothenburg (Sweden) with a beautiful view of the ocean. So if you can, a nice view while you sit in there is a huge plus. So perhaps a window facing your garden instead of the fence. Then you can enjoy the view with a nice cold drink in your hand.
If you're worried about people looking at you, a two way mirror/window might be an idea.
Speaking of windows, the green one is my favourite.
So you've traveled to Sweden? Which places did you visit?
I am voting for a big studio workshop but without sauna bc the maintenance costs a lot.
That's really interesting to know! We haven't looked at the ins and outs of different ways of heating it, so we will be deepdiving ti find the most efficient one soon. And even if decide to not use it as a sauna, a little separate space can always be used as garden storage instead!
Definitely the green for the bathroom
Either the green one or the design with the sun :)
Hello Nosey Neighbours!
So big debate we are having is bigger garden or bigger studio/workshop, what do you guys think a d what would you do?
Any thoughts on the sauna??
Thanks for all your support Nosy Neighbours, you guys are our hero's, so make sure to say hi in the comments and we will reply to you all 🙌🧡
I think the plans are a nice balance of office and garden. Just looks lovely. I love a lovely garden full of plants and a bit of grass to lie on and ground/meditate oh and a place to hang out my washing! Or maybe you will have a pulley in your utility. If you dont know what a pulley is it is a Scottish word for a drying rack that is attached to the ceiling that you can lower and raise on a rope. It might be a Glasgow tenement thing though and you need a decent high ceiling for it to work. Rambling now!
Lol. Clearing up AND a friendly game of chase 😊
The green one is gorgeous!!!
Watching from Canada 🇨🇦
this is so cool!! very excited to see more :) I like the middle deaign of the stained glass, but maybe in green and blue? It's nice that it's so symmetrical!
A workshop/studio/office is definitely worth doing. One of my neighbours has one as an art studio and another neighbour has theirs as extra space for their teenagers. Our houses are about 700 sq ft so adds a lot of useful space. If you really want a sauna go for it if within your budget.
I could be wrong here , and I hope I am, but hasn’t that wall bowed out because you have taken off the rafters ? Rafters stop the roof from pushing the walls outwards. ?
You guys are smashing through this project well done !!
You’re my inspiration for my plans of making a house in the future ❤
I like that green stained glass window :O
Yay!,, Y’all are getting there!😀❤️❤️❤️
The green window
Love your ideas! Is that a plunge pool you are thinking of installing? One of the best ideas I’ve seen for one of those is a stock tank pool. There are lots of ideas on UA-cam about them
I wanted to put one in our backyard but my husband said….” I am not having a big hole in MY yard!!”
I was ssssoooo disappointed because I think they are absolutely brilliant!
You considered a stained glass design mimicking the Irish penny you found?
Don't bother with a sauna, the novelty will soon wear off, the cost to run will be high, and it won't add value. It will inevitably break and need fixing. More than half of the year, the weather isn't nice enough to use outside space, so bigger inside space is probably more practical. More garden equals more gardening.
Hey Leanne, tha ks for your feedback on this, nothing is set in stone so all thoughts welcomed 🙌.
Still, a sauna to relax in afyer a hard day's work sounds dreamy right now 😅😅🙌
I agree, it won't pay off in the future.
@@RestoringNumberFour soaking tub outside instead of a sauna?
They also plan to live in the house lol. So if they want a sauna they should add a sauna!
Less is more...strongly suggest clear and frosted glass. Less less less....let the natural floors..beautiful stripped and sanded old doors and natural light stand out....don't hold the lily. :). Regards from Texas
Good points here! I'll be making a mood board soon with different options and will try one without colour too. There will be a skylight so plenty of natural light even with the stained glass! Thanks for sharing Catherine!
I’d like to see a more abstract, Mondrian shaped type creation…
Considering so many walls and ceilings have been demolished and also their state was not the best, wouldn’t it be easier to just tear the whole house down and build a new one? With all the modern amenities like proper insulation, new electrical, ac/ heating, Ethernet cables etc
Maybe they explained it in a different a video that I didn’t watch xD
Looking great guys! Which software are you using to design your rooms with?
Thank you Ro! The renders were made in Sketchup by our architects (Bespoke Living). We've also learnt how to create simple designs too on it - super useful for figuring out if things will look good. And the Web version is free!
@@RestoringNumberFour love watching the videos gets me excited for our own renovation!
Thanks for the info ill take a look at it! :)
We’re in the middle of renovating our 110 year old farmhouse and I completely empathize with your decision fatigue! It feels like every time we turn around something else needs to be torn down and rebuilt. Your videos inspire us to keep moving, thank you and well done…your home is going to be amazing!
How about instead of a sauna, you just have a hot tub/bubble pool?
Are there any good walls 😂
Probs no good houses in the whole area it seems 😅😅🧡
I think there's too much going on in the garden with all the different shapes and colours and differences in material. It seems like space isn't being used to it's full potential, especially with a pond right in the middle.
Hello! You are correct! The renders are not true to how the garden will look at all - it's going to be full of plants and trees etc. The renders were just to show the actual workshop 😊 we discussed the garden layout and how we want it to look in episode 5!
Just curious, and you obviously don't have to answer, but when you say it doesn't cost that much to rebuild the bathroom wall - could you give a ballpark amount for the cost? I have no idea what that would cost, also considering you're knocking the old one down and probably saving on cost that way. I'm looking to buy/renovate in a few years... any info is helpful!
Hi Jess! No problem at all - so our builder costs 220 a day and it took him two days to do. Materials were about £800. We are really lucky that our builder is happy working the way we do (we supply the materials he turns up when he can). We did have quotes from brickies which would have been £1500-£2000 + materials, so it really depends on who you have available to work with!
Sauna 🥵 via solar panels?? I've heard that Wales is very 🌧️🌧️🌧️
We haven't researched what the best way to power it would be - have no idea what the options are yet, but we will find out! Have you ever had a home sauna yourself?
Don't promote Better help. I know you need the money, but you're above them and their quackery
