whoa ... major flash back ... I could smell the gum and felt like i was 12 again for a second .. THANK YOU ... I have an unopened box of all 1988 junk cards but have it for nostalgia, so won't open the packs ..seeing them gives me that feeling of walking into the local Rexall Drug store and looking at the cards and trying to figure out what pack to buy

I used to get that Matt nokes card very frequently whenever I bought a 88 pack. At one time it was very comical.
I just ordered the Keith Comstock error card on ebay this morning... had no idea you would open this box!
If you have a 92 or 93 topps you should open those up for a TBT. Those are some of the sets I remember first collecting

I just got a Fairfield pharmacy box that other day and it had a bunch of Cubs in it and some ok rookies. I picked a good one. It also had a Bruce Sutter 87 Topps Tiffany card in it. I know you have talked about those in the past. I've never seen one in person. Pretty different with the white stock instead of grey

What’s up Erik! Fellas! I just got this whole set at a antique shop already in an album and sleeves in NM/Mint condition. Entire set with nice album and about 50 9 slot pages (holds 18 cards) for $15. I think with the extra pages and album it was a fair price. I looked thru the whole album to check if all the rookies were there before I handed my cash over. LoL peace!

Remember when the new stuff would come out in December? My first batch of '88 cards was Donruss.
You mentioned the 1994 strike, and of course it stretched on until May of 1995. Does anyone else remember that all of the teams had a replacement team ready to play in 95. That was ultimately what led the players back to the bargaining table.

I used to buy boxes of those at Costco. They were only ten bucks at the time. I'd open one pack a day after school.

If you go on heritage auctions Sunday auction right now, there is a Mickey Mantle Bowman rookie for sale at about $3,000 right now. You should buy it and then do a raffle for it. I would most definitely buy a spot!

Love the THROWBACK THURSDAY. Big Mark McGwire fan, also St.Lois Cardinals fan. Don't think Albert Pujols did the Cardinals right by leaving for more money. I'm sure I'm probably 1 of the only ones who feels that way. But I still love your videos. Thanks for the share...

@@kenscardboard nice. That's awesome. I knew all the prices from gettin them every month. They use to call me the "human beckett". Lol. I started setting up my own tables at cardshows 1992-1994. From 13 to 15 years old. It was my life there for a minute. I played-collected-studied all the stats-you name it. Man I miss them days!!!
This was when I first started buying baseball cards. I remember there were quite a few errors in the set.

Oh boy! The dreaded 1988 Topps!
They had well defined (and discussed) rules for notation like “first topps card.” Basically the traded set did not count at the time as standard rookie card because it did not come from a pack. The FTC Also acknowledges the fact that another major company beat them to the punch. XRC was used for traded set “pseudo rookies”
quick fact: in 1988 orel hersheiser set the major league record of consecutive scoreless innings with 59. a record that still stands today!
I remember buying 1988 Topps as a 10 year old and feeling like every card was the best card of the set. I just loved having them!

Another great "Throwback Thursday" video. Really takes me back to my childhood. I was just going through my 1988 team sets I put together as a kid the other day. The McGwire Record Breaker is an error too with the white triangle at his foot.
