Man this felt like it unlocked something in my head. I picked up my bass immediately, restarted the video, and immediately got to practicing it
Same!!
Greatest teacher in the whole wide world.
Wow! That's VERY kind. Thank you!
I second that
Beginners, intermediate players, and pros. There's something in this video for all of you. I hope it helps.
Thanks for watching!🙏🏾❤
I’ve played guitar for several decades, but I’m pretty new to learning bass. I ‘knew’ this stuff already, but you have a wonderful way of explaining it (and I always look for better ways of understanding theory)…I feel like I ‘know’ it a bit better now. You have an incredible way of speaking and teaching.
the way you tied in the music theory in this video is wonderful. as a beginner bassist, i thank you
Sir, you are a treasure! Thank you so much for these wonderfully helpful videos. I’m a beginner bassist but you help me a lot.
Appreciate the smooth and fundamental teaching. Scales of all kinds and varieties are absolutely essential to building music and melodies. Cheers.
I could not agree more. Thank you very much!
@@richbrownbass You are always welcome!
Nicely demonstrated Rich.
I think it's at this point when folks learning to play have a light bulb moment on music theory. It's like the first turn of the key that unlocks the magic box. When you quickly realise that this relationship happens all over the neck, it's a time of great advances in understanding the fretboard.
I just want to say you are a great teacher. Your explanations are so easy to understand. I’m just starting on the bass and you make it encouraging for people to learn.
Thank you so much!
I’m a keyboard player just now starting out on bass. Thanks for making this! Very informative and easy to understand
This is exactly what I was looking for, No over the top goofy youtube personality, no ridiculous editing and not making the video about yourself. Right to the point, very informative and simple to understand. Thanks man I really appreciate it, I'm coming from a drumming and synthesizer background and I want to pick up bass next, The way you've explained how scales work on the bass made a lot of sense to me. I'm going to be coming back to this video to practice. much appreciated
I never really check out stuff like this because I've played SOO long but I know NOTHING about scales, reading, etcetera. GRRREAT VIDEO! Thanks Rich.
Really appreciate the way you teach and this connection between major and relative minor is so helpful to me. Coming from years of piano and guitar this really helps a lot! Thank you
Holy crap something just clicked in me, I've been holding on learning scales for a week now because it sounds daunting for a beginner thank you so much
So music is like a fish. It has scales.
fascinating. 😁
Awesome vid.
"Saan ka noong naghahanap ako ng makakaturo sa akin ng Bass?"
That's Filipino for "Where were you when I'm looking for a Bass Teacher?"
Love this vid. And I'm sure I'll be scanning your channel for more.❤❤
Very well spoken and easy to understand and follow!
Good stuff Rich, your style makes it easy to understand. I learned to play bass when I was 15 in 1969, my mother taught me how to read music and then when I was introduced to the Circle of Fifths, it all made more sense. I never stop studying and learning. Thanks!
Thank you RIch for such a great explanation. You extended my pattern-thinking to the next level. Please keep up your excellent work! I truly enjoyed this video!
My friend I can't even express how thankful I am. I've learnt more in a couple of your short videos than on some classes!
Thank you!
CANT wait to watch! i just finished the pentatonic scales for beginners video so im primed and ready for this!
Another great lesson Rich,
Thank you.
You make it so easy to understand. Thank you so much!
That was really helpful. I knew the templates but the way you described the relationship between them was new to me. Thank you 🙏
A different perspective on a simple major scale. Great lesson as usual!
I started to watch your video and I already play in an another level. You are my inspiration Mr Brown.

wow! thk you so much! my first time in 20 years I understand this as clearly!
I am truly enjoying your tutorials, and my enjoyment of playing is growing daily
Superb lesson and explanation thank you
I wish my high school band teacher was patient enough to teach me this theory when I played tuba. Glad to have found your videos as I begin learning bass. Thank you Mr. Brown!
Nice, your chill makes it easy to learn. Thx much
You're phenomenal!

You’re such a treasure. I wish I was in Canada so I could go see you sometime.
Just discovered your channel, you’re an awesome teacher, things are getting clearer and clearer. Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you, for all you do.
Been playing for ages but this video has changed up my understanding of not over thinking which I’ve always done as I wasn’t one of the lucky people born with a good ear haha. Than you for this awesome lesson dude ❤
Your an inspiration to me. Thank you for helping me to become a bass player!
Mind Blowing! This is great
Really excellent video! This really helped me understand scales on the bass, and on the guitar!
By far one of your best teachings, brotha Rich! I love how you break it down slow with finger placement. It is very hard to find videos for the beginner/intermediate player. This is how I learn and makes me a better player. Can you please go over your lesson from SBL on the modes or the different way you play them. I think it's playing the 6th🤦🏾🤷🏾♂️
Thank you so much for helping everyone and being generous with your knowledge! You are greatly appreciated!
Just seeing all these comments I’m 39 seconds into the video and excited!!
Super clear lesson
thank you so much i learn it
A very good basic theory lesson. Not a play along job but a listen and learn. With all this information should give basic theory concept about notes and scales.I will just have to keep watching over multiple times until becomes all clear.I am ok with reading time scales and tablature but need more education on scales.I am glad I found this,no chalk board or ruler just right.
Great information. Thank you 😊
Thank you! Brilliant
you are a fantastic teacher. my new favorite channel!
Wow, thank you so much!
OK now that was cool! Thank you! Love your videos
Rich Brown you're a legend for this

Its good stuff sittin on the brown stones step ,, thanks amigo.
hey thanks for the great video!
thank you so much!!!!
Thank you for sharing you talent.
WOW!!! That was the fret board pattern that I have needed in the last two years of piecemeal study....harpist turned bass player here and I have been searching for that "key" that would unlock the fret board for me melodicly...you are awesome! Thank you neighbor 😊
That was a massive light bulb moment for me! I thought I had the major and minor scales learned well at this point but didn’t connect the relationship between the two or how to extend them across all 4 strings. Thanks Rich, this was super helpful! I’d be keen to see a video like this for 5 or 6 string too.
Thanks so much!!!
This helps a lot thank you 🙏
Can't eat too get home and mess with that major scale template👍
You are a great bassist. Thank you for all the knowledge you give us I will be praying for you.

I just want to say I absolutely appreciate your teaching style. This is the first bass scale video I've been able to follow along with and actually learn from and I've watched several. Thank you so much and keep up the good work. You've got a new subscriber!
Thanks so much for the kind words, Bobbie. I'm so glad this video helped.
