I cheated on her, but she cheated on me (first).
He blames everybody but himself:
1) It doesn't matter if Miriam allegedly was flirting with him. He lied to Miriam about being single to get her into bed.
2) It doesn't matter if the wife cheated on him first. Two wrongs don't make a right.
This guy needs to level up and stop allowing himself all these excuses for his unethical, selfish, terrible behavior. He doesn't want to discipline himself. His line of reasoning is, "If I make other people in the wrong, then this is a green flag for me to do wrong." He has a brain that lies to him. He's Amish so we know what he has been taught regards all of this AND his drinking. (Of course, anytime there are problems, things are messed up, alcohol can't be far off.)

What a mess!! I see two victim's here. Matt admittedly told all of the Amish girl's that he was single. Miriam didn't know that he was married and expecting a child. Matt's wife was furious!!! I see both Miriam and Matt's wife as victim's. Above all, this never should've happened. Not when the Amish have strict laws concerning dating and marriage. Matt is totally in the wrong in this situation and his wife needs to take it out on him. He was the one that wasn’t truthful to either of them. He knew when he left home he was married with a kid on the way. It appears that he is quick to justify why he did wrong and try to blame his poor decisions on others. It has been my experience once once a cheater always a cheater. A person has to seriously work at changing their behavior and stay out of situation that’s tempting.

They need to break up for real there's no reason to stay with someone after they've cheated. Even if you forgive them you obviously never forget, hence the husband saying "well she cheated too so." I don't think anyone in the community (if these are even real stories) are aware of what is going on with these people once the leave the community. They have no TV or telephones (they're not supposed to) or electric.. So how would they find out about anyone? The elders in the church would be there only ones that would really care anyway I think.

I was just confused because they keep mixing mennonite and amish in one in their story lines so I can’t keep up with if they’re one or the other or neither. And even then, old order and new order amish are very different. I feel like the elders would have to know and have already excommunicated the ones in their order and they’ve scripted the show after the fact. Which would explain the one girl calling her dad to tell him she wanted to leave instead of film crew showing it.
