Yea I think Kirstie and Scott were trying to hype and cheer him up the whole time - like how Scott looks at him in admiration during Evolution of Music and Kirstie glances at him during Jolene and when they mentioned how they did a lot of collaborations. And this whole comment section I think is also trying to be a positive voice for him. As positive of a person as he is, I did sense some sadness/discomfort from him during the storytimes. I'm sure it sometimes gets to him that he doesn't share the memories with the band that the four other members do with each other and how he is often compared negatively with Avi. I'm glad to see so many people, including members of the band, took notice of him during this performance. But yeah, like the above commenter said, he did have a whole special part which was cut out of this video where he explained how he joined the group.
I just keep coming back to watch this video! So nostalgic (even though I wasnt there for early pentatonix, I've watched enough old stuff to feel like I was). And they just have so much fun and joke around among themselves. And they also look so nostalgic and proud in different parts. It's just a really heartwarming part of their show. So glad they added that!

A month or two later, they dropped the giant panda motif for individual clothing. NOTE: A year after I wrote this remark, I bow to the folks who felt it was unhelpful and petty to notice that the group were just a mite rusty and not quite ready for the rigors of the tour, but they got in the groove quickly. To the critics: you were right. Ultimately, it's the music, and nothing else matters, and they do it SO well, which is why they've been my "go to" for well on eight years now. Kristie has transformed herself in the year or two since this was filmed. She looks and sounds GREAT and has really come into her own.

I just got the biggest musical blue balls when they cut off right at that deep bass 'because you're mine' line. I was hyping myself up so hard, getting excited to here Matt kill it and than... Nothing. His bass register is one of my favourites. His voice is so velvety it heals my soul. Hope to hear more of him very soon. Love the new music they've been making lately so either way I'll be one happy lad.

I love how they interacted with the fans because that tells every fan that they care about all of them. They’re such a nice group of performers, and the cooler thing is that they’re all close friends in real life which I think is awesome. Keep up the good work pentatonix. Also thanks for uploading this, I couldn’t go on their tour this year so now I get to see some of it.
Did they change the key for the Sing-Off medley? Mitch sounded like he was singing lower than he did back then? Maybe he's just worked his range so far into the stratosphere that this sounds low by comparison?! 💖 They've come so far! In the beginning I saw Matt look right at the camera, register recognition then smile and point at you! Are you a friend of his or just a very lucky fan? I just love Matt and I'm so glad we have him in the group!
Honestly, it was uncomfortable for me to watch them perform The Sing Off tunes. Those songs that created the original group I view as sacred, and yes Avi had a more light-bearing, spiritual deepness to his bold bass. They just don't sound the same; not bad, but not the same. The differences between all the members (reflected in their clothing in the beginning) was what made the group so interesting. I love Matt as a replacement because he came in the door with a confident more commercial look which is where the band was going (bigger production, more sparkly clothes, more lights). It's just when you go back to their roots, the differences are really noticeable and their roots are what attracted me to them.
Then go find him on his youtube channel and stop hating on Matt. A true Pentaholic would pull for the group as a whole. Matt has incredible talent and a beautiful voice and personality. May God continue to bless this awesome band, PTX!*
Avi is alive and well and has social media presence. He's easy to find. Go post there as Matt continues to shine. Matt's doing as well as the others. ... "and the band played on . . ."

It would be easy for a new person to feel defensive or act out or try to overprove themselves when stepping in to a role like that. And especially with how rude some "fans" have been and still continue to be. But Matt handles it so well, at least what he shows us. He doesn't give the negativity any airtime or fuel any kind of feud or comparison. He just continues on doing his best with a great attitude, and I respect him so much for that! He's him and he does his thing. Respect!
