I'll never stay for another storm like this again. The house we were in partially lost the roof and three rooms. Lucky to be alive
sorry you had to go through this glad you made it alive
Woah, Wow!! I'm glad y'all survived, Susan!! 🫂💞 Hurricanes are so frightening and people who've never been thru such just don't/can't really understand. Just the noise from a hurricane is terrifying!! I've only experienced such by being on the phone, yet it was frightening to hear!! Take care and good luck with the aftermath - I hope you get what you need now.✌️
Once bitten, twice shy! Lesson learned. When you get the warning- run ! Run to the nearest shelter .I believe all homes in Florida should be concrete blocks with steel and roofs that have hurricane belts. Those houses near the sea should be on stilts or have drainage around the periphery that grabs water and take it to the sewers.

Puerto Rico's been getting hammered every time, help them too.
Don't forget Puerto Rico...it seems to be the forgotten territory of the United States...many of it's citizens are without water and power.

You really know who your friends are when they know you live in Florida and make no effort to find out how you're doing.
make better choices on places to LIVE IN, if you CHOSE to move there, you knew what you were getting into and accepted the risk, its entirely on you.
The rest of the country has its own problems. You chose to live in Florida, an island so take what you get.
Wow... definite sour puss responses today...hope that you are okay and resolve comes as soon as possible.
I don't know you and I'm far away in SoCal - but how you doing, Roger? Are you okay - how's your place, did you have damage? Do you have electricity or are you using a charger for your phone? I've never been in a hurricane but I've been on the phone with someone while it was happening and it was terrifying! The sound alone so can't imagine actually being in it.
Honestly, no one cares. I live in Ks and have been following this since it hit Porto Rico. No one seemed to notice . If your friends don’t stay connected to media than they just don’t know
some ppl looks down on houseless ppl before and now, at least houseless ppl got nothing to lose in this case, houses are so expensive it's pointless, and will never be yours. simple compassion required and always to ppl and animals
You are so accurate with this comment❤️
Absolute Truth!
Desantis spend millions to save migrants from the hurricane but left his own to die and has blood on his hands
Some houses are more expensive than others, however they are not pointless. They provide shelter which is extremely important for taking care of your family. This was a 500 year storm, so damage is to be expected. Mother nature is always in charge and at times shows us all just how power our weather can be.

Most affected in Florida have stated they Don’t want the President’s help. Let the Ungrateful suffer.

Ostriching
They just kept saying on the weather and all the local channels that it was going to hit the west coast. They did not expect it to move to the east. It moved to the east and stayed there for hours pouring rain. Many people cannot leave during hurricanes. It takes money and a dependable vehicle. Many just cannot leave and have to depend on shelters but, after the storm there may be no home to go back to. Now at least many shelters will allow you to bring your pets. Years ago, you had to leave your pets behind. Would you do that?
I went through Andrew in 92 and Ian has been just as devastating.. bless those who have been impacted by both these storms.. it's something we will never 4 get

The weather channel clearly stated that Ian would rush to Florida and stall.Sounds like it was clear that Ian wasn't planning on moving away from Florida too quickly yet people stayed instead of going to shelters provided on higher grounds

puerto...And the storm rode them out!
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who *couldn't* evacuate. The elderly, the sick, the poor. Anyone else that isn't under the care of someone else should have booked out of there days ago and I have no mercy for them. They tie up emergency services to rescue them, preventing people who couldn't leave from getting help sooner or at all.
Many cannot leave. They do not drive. They do not have a vehicle that will travel for 8 to 10 hours in bumper to bumper traffic to get out of here. They simply do not have the money. Some people like to tempt fate and ride the storm out. We got stuck this time and could not leave. If you do not leave few days before the storm actually hits, you may as well stay put. Imagine bumper to bumper on 95 or 75, no place to go and a tornado is touching down or you are almost out of gas and you have been driving at 20-30 mph for three hours. Don’t know why there were people staying during the hurricane when they were told to leave and go to higher ground. This is awful
Old and sick and poor. Use oxygen. Have mobility issues.

Many cannot leave. They go to shelters if they can get a ride. Many in FL over 80 years of age do not drive and live on fixed incomes. The talk about FL being rich. Poop. You cannot compare what Ian did to what Andrew did. They are two different types of storms. What Ian did was largely flooding due to rain and the surge. What Andrew did was largely due to wind. When Andrew was done, it looked like a 20+ mile wide tornado came through. It was so powerful that it spun up mini vortices which made the storm even more destructive. Andrew is the worst case scenario of what wind damage can look like. Ian is pretty much a worst case example of what hurricane flooding can look like. Flooding is bad, but I think being stuck inside a tornado for hours on end takes a greater emotional toll on a person. I cannot imagine the fear the people of Homestead lived in. I heard one witness account many years ago describing it as sounding like a poltergeist. Another described the sound of booms as debris hit their home. It was flower pots from a nursery.
While I appreciate that both storms were highly traumatic in their own right, flood waters and rain is what often leads to the most loss of life and destruction in hurricanes (obviously in conjunction with the winds). People don't realize how dangerous storm surge is.
Correct. Andrew was one of those RARE Wind Hurricanes. Ian is a typical Caribbean Hurricane. Full of Warm Storm Surge Power.
@@kevanmcdougallmph Some people are just trying to become Darwin award recipients. There were storm chasers -- lets be real -- thrill seekers, that thought it would be smart to be on Mexico Beach to try and get the best footage. They were lucky to survive the surge. They got trapped in rapidly rising water. Just dumb. These thrill seekers give legit spotters and chasers a bad name Then there are those who think they can just ride it out. People will never learn. Unfortunately.
You want to live near the water there is a price to pay.
Andrew! I thought the same thing
Why not make nicer shelters in each county that are stock with food water and more people would go to one if they made nicer ones where it's not like your stuck at a homeless shelter for days locked in
Why is NBC being so negative
Because when Florida is all good, they are being negative towards everyone else. Let them see how it feels.
Just wait until the California coast has a tsunami again. The last one was December 1812. No one lived at the beach except the Chumash for 350 years. Now the coast is jam-packed with hotels and students and colleges and tourists. Everyone will be stuck in a traffic jam. Helpless.
Hey, that's life! It's just one of the risks we take for living in one of the most beautiful places on Earth - apparently, the Chumash thought the same!! ✌️
Was there much tornadoes. Thank goodness not.
There probably were. Keep in mind that tornadoes spun off by hurricanes are not those huge mile wide tornadoes you see out on a Kansas prairie.
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
People refuse to leave their homes but after the storm.....they still have to leave their homes.......lunacy.
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever shall believe in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). Life is uncertain, but death is assured, make sure you have secured your soul, for it is certain, wheresoever you find yourself to be, (judgment day is coming) it will be for all eternity.
One thing should be perfectly clear by now. There is a pattern. Centuries old.
A storm of similar strength hit the Philippines but only 12 deaths, why Florida has more deaths?
IT WAS SLOW MOVING AND IT DOES MORE DAMAGE WHEN IT MOVES SLOW THROUGH THE AREA.
I live 5-10minutes from here. It’s not good.
There’s going to be bigger stronger storms but that will not mean less people living there. What it will ultimately mean sooner or later is that homes will be much much stronger and nimbler capable of enduring a cat 5 . Building with traditional lumber is so 20th century and antiquated. We just don’t know it yet.
What makes you think that Cat 5 will always be the highest number with these storms?
have mercy oooo GOD
I knew it was going to be horrific but WHOAAAA
I just don't understand why people choose to live in a state that every time you turn around there is a hurricane bearing down on them. Destroying their homes and everything in it. Loosing their lives. Why stay in a place like that. Why???????
Another unintelligent person on UA-cam
Because it's "cheap". These people don't realize that other states have rules and regulations for a reason. Thank you Republicans for making your red states unliveable and brainwashing your voters to be ignorant enough to not want to leave.
Fair question. Hurricanes are not exclusive to Florida, eg hurricanes Katrina and Sandy. Tornadoes can form anywhere. Earthquakes are in Cali and Hawaii, but also Alaska, Nevada, Idaho and Wyoming. Many Survivors will undoubtedly search for states having the least amount of natural disasters.
What is the best way to give financial help?
You might be able to google the shelters in the area and donate directly to them or perhaps directly to the food banks .

Living in the last days. Luke 21:25-28 is a verse spoken of by Jesus that foretold some of the signs and world conditions that would indicate the end of the age and his second coming.
25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; 26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. 27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
