Former Floridian here and let me just say this is incredibly upsetting. Like how do the residents even recover from this? By the time the city is rebuilt it'll be hurricane season again. Very sad.
@Jason Johnson the same people who are effected the worst by the hurricane are those who barely have the money to feed there family’s, then a hurricane comes in and threatens thier lives and destroys their house and where they work so they are homeless and jobless, they can’t “just move” you have to have money for that.
Maybe they should vote the next MAGA president who then can again cancel all climate protection treaties. That will help in the future.. You reap what you sow.
I'm in South Florida and was spared the worst. My heart goes out to the people further up in Florida who have suffered devastation from this hurricane. My thoughts and prayers are with them.
For myers is so bad right now. Our yard looks like a lake all the way around. Thank God it didn't come in but a little in the garage. If we would have been a foot down more we would be flooding inside. But our beach is destroyed... so glad you guys are ok. Now just trying to reach all family members across Florida
My family is from Boca and I lived in Wellington from 97-07, went through Katrina and every storm during that time. Watching this is insane. I feel so bad for everyone back in my home state

We need my credit fixed and every dollar spent on the car back. Then i want relocation to a quality home and not fcked with again by your local mafia. Then ill be compliant. I'm from Miami, Fl and went through Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Now, I live in Orlando and just went through Hurricane Ian. I'll tell you this, the "anxiety" knowing that hurricanes can bring tornadoes, atmospheric pressure, debris, and massive flooding is unsettling for hours on end. Your life hangs in the balance and by the grace of God, I'm still alive. 🙏🙏🙏
@@rexhuggins9517 Since this morning, the water has started to recede. Yesterday, our power came back on, but a neighborhood nearby suffered heavy flooding.
I was in Miami in 1992 for Andrew ground zero, Homestead & Cutler Ridge area. Then, I was in Fort Myers for Ian. Thankfully I learned my lesson from Andrew and evacuated on the Sunday before Ian made landfall. Glad I did. But it was horrifying watching my neighborhood get swept away live on the news.
My son lives in Fort Myers, he evacuated out of state to my house. He is lucky his house has minor damage, but they know so many who lost it all. My daughter in law worked on Sanibel Island. My son went through hurricane Katrina with us as a teenager and knew to get out. No two storms are the same and if you are faced with a storm this bad just get out, just because the last storm didn't harm you does not mean the next one wont. This video reminds me of how the Mississippi coast looked after Katrina, Just heartbreaking.
The problem is many of the residents in swfl expected the storm to go northward. For me personally didn't see the storm change it's direction to our area until waking up at 6 am. At that time for most residents it was impossible to leave.
This reminds me of Typhoon Haiyan that hit the Philippines years ago. My heart goes to the people and pets affected by typhoon Ian. Salute to rescuers too. I hope you all get through.
There was a devastating storm (Noru) at super typhoon strength (240km/h) in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia at the same time Ian hit Florida. Dozens of casualties and devastation. The authorities evacuated a large amount of people from endangered areas though to keep them safe and prevent worse. Sadly it's always the poorest people who suffer the most from natural disasters.
5:55 “my house is gone.” The simplicity of that statement, yet it’s still so heavy. It’s crazy how everything can be ripped from you in a matter of seconds. Praying for survivors and the lives that were lost ❤
It's good to see so many people coming together to help each other. Our prayers go to those who did not make it. This is how it should be always. Put politics aside and speak with your heart. The world would be a much better place.
that $12 million their idiot governor spent flying migrants .. ALL politics .. or when he voted against aid for Sandy victims .. ALL politics .. but now we're supposed to forget and give them money.

Northeast Florida resident here. Even if we got spared from the worst, that night when it reached us and lost power at 3 AM, hearing the wind and rain in the middle of the night scared me so much. I'm praying for everyone who got worse impacts. I'm glad I'm moving up to Tennessee or Alabama next year or so. I know Florida was my childhood because of going to Orlando for the theme parks but I think it's time to move soon. just don't know when.
Keep in mind the news was telling people it was going to hit Tampa Bay until a day or 2 before the storm was going to hit. For some people it wasn’t enough time, like the elderly or even people who didn’t think it was going to be bad. Either way I’m praying for everyone like my aunt who we haven’t heard from in Estero, Fl next to Fort Myers. This was a no joke storm. (Edit, she is safe just the whole street is a river and has to be evacuated but hoping it goes down soon thanks for the love 🙏🏽)
I hope you hear from your Aunt soon. I've heard from everybody today and only one with more than minor damage. Didn't sleep too well last night worrying about it.

*Paragraph 8 of 66.* _Florida governor Rick Scott bans Florida officials from using the phrase 'climate change'_ Last year, the federal National Climate Assessment said Florida is vulnerable. "There is an imminent threat of increased inland flooding during heavy rain events in low-lying coastal areas such as southeast Florida, where just inches of sea-level rise will impair the capacity of stormwater drainage systems to empty into the ocean," the study said. The Washington Post, CNN and other media have picked up on the story about the Florida ban, spreading the word about how climate change is likely to impact Scott's state.
*Paragraph 7 of 66.* _Florida governor Rick Scott bans Florida officials from using the phrase 'climate change'_ When reached for comment about the supposed ban on the terms, Gov. Scott's spokesperson John Tupps said "it's not true." Tupps said that neither the governor's office nor the DEP had a policy on the use of the terms. In Florida, about 300,000 houses worth about a total of $145 billion are vulnerable to a rise in the sea level caused by climate change, according to Climate Central. a nonprofit news organization that analyzes and reports on climate science. Sea-level rise was another term that Scott prohibited, saying it should be called "nuisance flooding," the newspaper said. This has happened before: In North Carolina in 2012, the legislature said it would ignore studies that mentioned sea-level rise.

I had shutters up but some flew away. Half of my roof is missing shingles and all panels are gone but we did not get the flooding that others are experiencing now. Ian has caused complete and utter devastation. The electric grid has to be completely reconstructed. We have no idea how long we'll be without water and power. I was raised in Miami and just moved here a year ago but I'll be moving out of Fl in the near future. Its not wort living here with the type of climate we are living through. Hurricanes happen every year, and this is what they do. It's not a surprise at all. Thousands died in Hurricane Katrina. THAT might have been a surprise to some. Okay, maybe if thousands are dead in this one too, that will be a surprise. Otherwise... it was expected.
How could you not expect this? I'm in Germany and I knew days before the storm hit which path it is likely going to take and how strong it will be. Everyone knew exactly what was going to happen.
For those of us that have lived here for a long time (32 yrs for me), we’re used to it. Every June-November, we’re a little more on edge than normal because we know what can happen. It’s the price you pay for living in paradise. With all due respect, there is no way to get “used” to your house getting torn off its foundation. This is no mere initiation, this is a historically cataclysmic storm that can’t be accounted for in a day to day routine. This initiation will have cost many their lives, but I’m glad you have been able to handle it well (not sarcasm). Please just be cognizant that not every has…or can.

Very good point to make. A friend went through the hurricane that hit Cabo in Mexico a few years ago. She had PTSD symptoms for nearly a year, but got therapy to work her way through it. It's a real thing and no one should ever feel ashamed for needing help to get through a traumatic event.
B-u-l-l-s-h-i-t !!! In all seriousness not everyone who goes through some hardships has a post traumatic stress disorder or an ongoing trauma. That is something psychoanalysts tell you to make money. In the US it is seen as a form of necessity to talk about "childhood traumata" to so called "experts" even if nothing bad ever happened in your childhood. Also you have to keep in mind that everyone is different. What may be traumatizing to one is totally unspectacular to others. Generalizing statements who pathologize everyone who went through some difficulties in his/her life is not helping anybody except greedy psycho sharlatans and snake oil sellers.
Very thankful my friends and loved ones made it through. Moved away 4 years before, I remember the fear that my parents had lost their house or worse, and I remember weeping looking at the pictures of places I knew and grew up in completely destroyed

Me and my mom visited St Augustine a few months ago it's so sad to see Florida being devastated like this I really hope everyone is okay that survived and everybody gets rescued
Thanks for your best wishes. St. Augie had severe flooding. beaches evacuated. but 2day, the water is down, now it's cleanup. I havnt heard that anybody died. a lit of devastation across the state. I'm in Jacksonville. we were in the line of fire, but fortunately, we didn't get much damage. If Ian didn't take a more eastward path ACROSS the state, there would have been much more devastation along the gulf coast. it lost steam coming across the state. from a Cat 4/5 @ 155 mph down to a 1. Keep FLA in your thoughts. Thanks. 💖
@@heidifisher7693 I'm glad to hear that the flooding didn't last very long and I hope everyone is okay out there I'm glad to hear that the hurricane is also dying down.
I do wish people would leave for the storm so they don’t get hurt or killed. Also putting rescuers lives in danger. Either way… prayers go out to all of you. 🙏

I’m a Florida native and have been through many hurricanes. The worst was Andrew, but I think Ian could be far worse by what they are saying. I have seen the destruction they cause first hand!! My home was near leveled by Andrew. My heart goes out to all that are affected!!
Hurricane Michael was a Cat 5 storm and I stayed for that one. Biggest mistake of my life. Michael was 160mph 25.5 billion dollars worth of damage. I feel for them having been in the same situation. It was like a bomb went off. Everything will be alright though and like we always said we’d rebuild and slowly but surely things kind of are back to normal but it will never be the same again. Some Houses are still abandoned and have tarps on them etc. it’ll take some time but normality will happen eventually.
@@Flawdagal It's still pretty depressing once you get near Mexico beach and Port st Joe.... trees snapped off halfway up all around you and bare foundations still at the beach
For sure, I'm for South Florida and experienced Andrew, Katrina (Cat 1 that passed) and was working around SW and Central Florida in 04 when Charley and the other Canes that passed that year .. Michael is definitely devastating hands down in the region just as Andrew was in Dade but when it's all said done, Ian will no doubt turn out to be the most Catastrophic Cane in FL due it's size, the surge, the Flooding, the damage, the loss, its total impact from SW FL all the way to NE FL. Many reports from Ground rescue crews and even Hurricane pilots are collecting data that are indicating that Ian was in fact a Cat 5 storm when it made impact. In the words of one of the rescue group that was in Panama city area for Michael, he said that the wind was much stronger with Ian, that in order to break apart piers, causways made from Concrete, it had to be a Cat 5 at some point when it made landfall. We all know that Katrina was deadlier in NO due to many failures caused by its levee system and bad planning but with Ian, Ft Myers went head to head with its impact windows, some with metal roofs, others with Hurricane proof building codes and were no match. And to make matters worse, whoever was not severely affected by the surge / wind along the coast was impacted with Severe Flooding all the way inland from coast to coast. It's going in the records book no doubt and is the Storm that put the final drop in the Insurance crisis that we will feel in the coming years.
We dodged a bullet located about 40 miles north of Tampa and 13 miles from the Gulf. God be with all who lost so much. Rip to those who paid with their lives. Condolences and prayers to the families and friends.
My heart goes out to all Floridians and anyone affected by this awful storm. It’s a powerful reminder of the strength of Mother Nature. She is not to be underestimated. And this was a category 4. Imagine the devastation if it was a cat 5. Absolutely mind blowing. Stay safe out there.

Every part of the country has some natural disaster to deal with (earth quakes, tornadoes, snow storms, hurricanes etc.) you can't ever escape every single thing. I was born in Florida and would never live near the beach That always gets hit the worst. Mostly everything else just has lots of rain and potential foods but not as bad as being near water.
It’s so weird how those 60 to120 miles North or South of the path of Ian just had rain and some minor winds, but nothing serious. My brother’s home was spared, but so many experienced loss. Thoughts and prayers going out for you all.
We in the houston area went through this same thing when we were hit by Harvey. My family and so many family’s lost so much from Harvey. I say all of this to say that, the power of humans coming together to rebuild a community is so powerful, and I know this storm will be no different for Floridians. You will rebuild, and your town will be so much stronger for it. My thoughts and prayers are with you guys!

@@eagle25311 the east side of Florida is rarely hit, is what they were saying - especially to this magnitude. Plus most people who spend their whole life in Florida don't see more than a few hurricanes, and the ones we do see usually don't do much damage. In my life (24 years) I've only seen 2 hurricanes, and it was this one and Irma. (and I believe Irma was just a tropical storm by the time it got to me.) You're typically only prone to big damage if you're near the beaches, or rivers, and essentially a direct hit from the coast. Otherwise, the concern is probably with old trees snapping and brief power outages.
I’ve been in Florida for 26 years and I’ve been through a Cat 5 storm. Hurricane Michael in 2018. That was the biggest one I have gone through personally. Mexico beach and Panama City , fl and surrounding area looked just like this. We don’t have many trees left.
I grew up in Nebraska. Tornadoes have nothing this is. I have been IN a tornado and I was in the heart of this hurricane. It was like a tornado for 6 hours straight, followed by a very rapid surge. Miles and miles inland had surge.

THANKS! ❤❤❤
Did your area ever recover after Katrina?

Jesus Christ died for our sins, rose from the dead, and gives salvation to everyone who has faith in him. True faith in Jesus will have you bear good fruit and *drastically* change for the better! Those led by the Holy Spirit do not abide in wickedness. 👍🏾
*God is ONE manifesting himself as THREE;* the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit! Bless him! *For these three are one.*
As I am led by the Holy Spirit, nothing I state is a lie, but the truth of God. Anyone who tells you differently is misinformed or a liar. They do not know God, nor led by him.
Anyone who *claims* to be a Christian and is against what I am doing, and where I am doing it; the Holy Spirit does not dwell within them, they lack understanding. They know not God, read his word, and their religion is in vain. Do not hear them, they will mislead you, the lost cannot guide the lost.
When you trust in God and cast your cares (worries, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts) upon him, they will be NO MORE!
Know that there is power in the name Jesus Christ! His name casts out demons and heals!
The world is wicked, evil, and of the devil.
I too, was a wicked sinner of the world before I opened my heart to God. I am living proof of God's work and fruitfulness! He is an active God who hears the prayers of his! God's children are set apart (holy) and righteous. The devil is a liar that comes to steal, to kill, and to destroy; that includes your relationship with God!

The only thing we can do is work together to make a terrible and devastating situation better.

My family used to got out to Sanibel Island every few years and we all loved it; and seeing place looking apocalyptic is just heartbreaking. 😢
I’m from Florida. how many freaking times has Sanibel been wiped out and it’s come back. Maybe we should learn a lesson and stay the f**k away from the coast so that they could look beautiful again instead of all these monstrosities not just single-family homes mind you these huge condos!
I wish they’d all been knocked down obviously the storms aren’t strong enough for me. And Allah has created the heavens and the earth with truth, in order that each Nafs (self, soul, person) may be recompensed for that which it has earned, and they will not be wronged. [Al-Jaathiyah 45:21-22]
وَأَنَّ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ أَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا
And that those who believe not in the Hereafter, for them We have prepared a painful torment. [Al-Israa' 17:10]
And nothing prevents mankind from believing when the guidance (the Qur'an) has come to them, and from asking Forgiveness of their Lord, except that the ways of the ancients be repeated with them, or the torment be brought to them face to face. [Al-Kahf 18:55]
Allah سبحانه وتعالى said,
وَهُوَ مَعَكُمْ أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ ۚ وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ
And He is with you (by His Knowledge) wheresoever you may be. And Allah is the All-Seer of what you do. [Al-Hadeed 57:4]
ذَٰلِكَ جَزَيْنَاهُم بِمَا كَفَرُوا ۖ وَهَلْ نُجَازِي إِلَّا الْكَفُورَ
Like this We requited them because they were ungrateful disbelievers. And never do We requite in such a way except those who are ungrateful (disbelievers). [Saba' 34:17]

My heart goes out to everyone affected❤️
I pray that you all find relief and comfort, as much as possible, from someone that survived the eye of Hurricane Michael.
Please know that any support that we can give is coming!
You will NOT be forgotten!
My heart goes out to these people
I'll bet that you don't get a Thank You card for your Tax Dollars going to bail them out though.
Sending love to my family and the rest of people in Florida from Jamaica 🙏🏻
I do wish people would leave for the storm so they don’t get hurt or killed. Also putting rescuers lives in danger. Either way… prayers go out to all of you. 🙏
All the seniors down there, such a shame that they have to endure that in their retirement years.

This is why I live in Texas
@@crod038 exactpy great comment the insurance is wild right now Florida is a disaster state
We’re hunkered down here In MC, SC. Prayers going up and prayers going out for everyone in the path of Ian.
The wind ripping the roofs apart is scary.
First responders are so amazing. When u start to think the world has gone to hell then u see this compassion.
Thank you Police, Fire and Rescue teams you are great people.

When people move to Florida, they think about "no state taxes". They forget this exists and can happen multiple times each summer.
Dont live near the beach

Every part of the country has some natural disaster to deal with (earth quakes, tornadoes, snow storms, hurricanes etc.) you can't ever escape every single thing. I was born in Florida and would never live near the beach That always gets hit the worst. Mostly everything else just has lots of rain and potential foods but not as bad as being near water.
It’s so weird how those 60 to120 miles North or South of the path of Ian just had rain and some minor winds, but nothing serious. My brother’s home was spared, but so many experienced loss. Thoughts and prayers going out for you all.
My aunt lives in Ft Meyers and decided to ride it out. There was little to no flooding in here direct area.
My thoughts and prayers are with you guys!
sure did.....lost everything , house, car, furniture, etc. because of harvey
flooding. had to be rescued by boat. can't do much, but move away, n move on.
Those awesome brave rescuers need some recognition and reimbursement for their time and sacrifices, those survivors are so humbled. Hope our " leaders" look after these Americans first.

Hello Anneliza how are you doing
Why live in a place that this happens almost every season??
OMG To think I once considered relocating to FL. So glad I stayed in Metro Atlanta. It will all be under water someday. Thoughts and Prayers.
Here in philippines, we are also hit by a category 5 hurricane karding. Same as yours, many houses are severely destroyed, very high floods. sad part is we lost 5 rescuers during the hurricane.

Almost a Cat 5 for a region of florida that doesn't see these kinds of hurricanes. Devastating.
Florida gets hurricanes. Why people would still live there is beyond me.
Electricity was out for weeks.
Some of these pictures looks so much like the Midwest after a tornado. This is devastating. Prayers to everyone affected.
I grew up in Nebraska. Tornadoes have nothing this is. I have been IN a tornado and I was in the heart of this hurricane. It was like a tornado for 6 hours straight, followed by a very rapid surge. Miles and miles inland had surge.
