      Key differences:
Sacked: Mahomes 25, Wilson 45. HUGE
Rushing: Wilson has 3 TDs but their rushing stats are quite similar (personally, I give far less of an Eff who actually scores the TD, than I do about the yards gained, first downs, etc.).
Key point: Mahomes hasn't been good this year. You're comparing yourself to a historically great QB, but only in the current year, which has been very middling. Not a great look for a QB being paid like he's GodJesus.

I work for a pretty large corporation, and we have contracts as employees at my level. Unlike the NFL, they are either renewed or not every year. Just because the terms were agreed to initially, doesn't mean they can't be changed at any point during the execution of the contract.
We just had a manager get demoted for underperforming. Not that he didn't perform well, he did, and he made a lot of money for the company, but when compared to his particular agreement he wasn't maximizing his production.
Just saying that a contract is only good and serviceable as long as both parties live up to the terms and conditions of the contract. Otherwise, people would perform long enough to get a good contract, then sit back and enjoy life- stress free.

@@scott729 I don't think comparing NFL player contracts to other employment contracts works well. But, even if we do that, the thing here is that Russ is playing well when compared to other QB's stats around the league (Russ can't be held accountable for the entire team's record - only his stats).
So, if the team is asking a player to renegotiate their contract to a lower amount, even if that player is playing well, then it will make other players not want to play for them. If the team is then benching him because he's refusing to take less money, even though he's playing well, then that will also make other players not want to play for them. If your company was doing the same thing, it would also make them less desirable to potential new hires.
Now, this is still rumor at this point... so we'll have to see if this is ever verified or not.

It appears obvious now that Payton intended to get rid of Wilson no matter what. Against that backdrop, is it reasonable to think that the last thing Payton wanted or needed was a winning season, or worse a trip to the playoffs? Play calling during a game matters, and it appears that Payton had a hidden agenda while calling the plays this season.
Coaches have a choice to execute a game plan that is geared towards the abilities of the players he has, or to develop players to execute the game plan he wants to instill on the players.
If you hire a coach to bring in a new scheme, than Players that can’t adjust are discarded, while players compatible with the coaches plan are added.
In this move, the Broncos organization have thrown away all the integrity that is supposed to exist in a contractual arrangement with the player(s), in order to semi-publicly state that they are buying Peyton’s scheme.
Hang on Broncos fans, the next 2 -3 years are going to be turbulent as Peyton and the GM try to shed almost all their current starters in an effort to bring in compatible players.
I’m not saying this is a bad move, but I am saying that the organization has lied to their entire team all year. Not good.

Carroll has NEVER invested in a quality, and sustainable O-line ever, but has chosen to spend money elsewhere on the defense instead throughout his time in Seattle.
If he really wanted to have a good O-line, he could have gone into FA, and via draft over the years, but arrogantly chose not to.
Case in point, giving up so much for a complete bust in Jamal Adams, and passing over Creed Humphrey, and many others for bad first overall draft choices.

Scapegoat for a team that started 1-5. Russell Wilson(a superbowl winning champion) has and still plays at a high level. 26 touchdowns only 8 int's 3000 yards passing and climbing. Only about 2 other players have been sacked more than Russell Wilson. Far more problems than a quarterback problem. The sad thing is the Broncos have not been eliminated from the playoffs. Denver ownership needs to blame themselves for this entire debacle they find themselves in from the day they gave Wilson that contract, and then compounded the issue by hiring a coach whose system Wilson won't fit into and a coach who never wanted Wilson.
I'm a lifelong Seahawks fan and I loved Wilson while he was there until the end. He bought into the Pete Carroll organizational philosophy not just on the field but the rah-rah stuff off the field too and it fit spectacularly there. Everyone had to buy in to it or they'd be shipped off and we could see which players hated that system once Wilson left the Seahawks because they were all the players that popped off at Wilson in the media. But make no mistake - that system worked whether those other players liked it or not.
But then Wilson got the huge contract plus started seeing Ciara leading to their marriage and it was obvious things changed with him. And then he got fat in 2016. You could see that the lifestyle got to his head and his head wasn't into the game like it was earlier in his career and this obviously lead to his departure. That said...his year by year statistics have actually steadily improved from the Seahawk Super Bowl years of 2013 and 2014 to the year before his last in Seattle, and even 2021 wasn't far off from the preceding years.
I think the divorce from Seattle was probably a wake up call because Wilson has got his weight into check and he doesn't seem to be in the media nearly as much as he was in the early Ciara years. And last year's Broncos team had horrifying coaching. Everybody has complained that Wilson had a terrible year but I honestly believe that the coach utilized Wilson horrifically...I didn't recognize the offense he was running one iota and knew immediately watching his first two games that Wilson was never going to succeed in that system. The coordinators leashed Wilson and you can see that in his stats with his average yards per completion far lower than normal even though the rest of his statistics were par for the course (except for touchdowns thrown which isn't always necessarily the QB's fault). And then again this year you can see Payton's offensive scheme simply didn't fit Wilson and again his average yards per completion was way down even though the rest of his stats including TD's to interceptions were similar to years past.
This season Russells stats were going to surpass his stats in his two Super Bowl years. Anyone with a brain knew exactly what the Broncos were going to get when they signed him and he has actually performed as per what reasonable expectations should have been. Bronco's management has failed to give him an offensive scheme that would allow Wilson to succeed and they gave up on him after only one year once they signed Sean Payton in this mismatch that was surely to lead to a divorce.

Stats exaggerate his performance. All he can do is check down or hail Mary. He has missed wide-open receivers all year & bumbles plays constantly. He cant stay in the pocket or deliver when it matters.
Denver would be ok with his performance if he was a rookie or young, but Russ is a 35yo 12 yr vet they're paying $250m. They HAVE to get rid of him. A 12 year vet getting $250m should be able to deliver the consistent performance necessary to get into the playoffs every season.
Also, Denver has had a revolving door of either busted veterans or 7th round back up QBs since Peyton Manning retired. Its high time they invested some of that sweet Walmart cash into an actual young prospect who could be developed into the right QB.
I know their strategy is "we don't have the time to develop, we need results NOW", but how has that worked out for you? They have missed the playoffs every single year since they won the super bowl in 2015.
It's not like they've had bad players either. Last year their Defense was almost #1 in the league but Russ couldn't score 10 points. I think 9 years with no playoffs is the longest in Denver history. If MF Tim Tebow can get the Broncos to the playoffs, Walmart & Russ have no excuse.
The 2024 draft has like 4 or 5 decent QBs in it. I know Denver obliterated all their picks but they should really trade like madmen to get one of them. Bo Nix or Jayden Daniels for ex. Jarret Stidham & his billionaire wife were never the answer. Add him to the list of bums Denver execs have laughably thought were the answer: Lynch, Keenum, Osweiler, Siemian, Bridgewater, Locke, etc.
