LOL damn that thing is torched, used to see that a lot with old pre OBDII fuel injection, usually a bad MAF or MAP sensor or a weak fuel pump let it run to lean with no way to know until it was way to late. ECU can pull timing all it wants but a determined driver can still destroy the engine with enough perseverance.
my guess is a combination of bad fuel or supply issue causing it to run very lean, with a stupid driver pushing full throttle racing or drifting or burnouts and not stopping when the first signs of problems started
How, how, how. Stop the "cap". Ask the (insane) driver what has he/she done. How was the car treated (and where, on the street cruising to church every sunday, or on the track)? Such failure without any symptoms (no warning signs)?

Fuel problem may be maped wrongly. And dumb driver pushing when they had to know there was a problem.
