It's late here, but thought I'd share a comment. Brief background, IDF Inf/RedBoot then offered job with (Israeli) IDPS agent n US/DSS 1811 in the states. I have shot these pistols mentioned n they have grouped well n some friends own these. I can assure those interested having this specific model. It has the ole school look/feel n operation that Berettas are known for.
That said. With all the selection of Beretta 22lr n M 71 Jaguar, Bobcat others ect. I like the M 71 n Bobcat the most n own both as well. If one wants, you can easily surpress these types of firearms. Ace hardware has everything you need, think outside the box. Using basically gut shooters n close head shots. You'll want plastic bag or pillow/case/shower curtain as they're very messy targets.
Just some humor saying that, PLEASE DON'T ever do that. Although if you children n grandchildren ever harmed by a pedophile, I DIDN'T SEE A DAMN THING. GUARANTEED
I have a extensive small arms with different types n actions. NAA offer a large variety of very small footprints of 22lr n 22mag n it's fun collecting. Fond of the custom Pug 22mag n both Black Widow models. One is called Black Widow stainless n the dark green n black frame is I think Ranger? They both are 100% identical guns. I often ccw the Black Widows in my jeans sap/black jack side pockets just above the knee. (Dickens relax cut) provide the best leg pockets.
The Pug around the neck with fast draw down holster. I am pushing 70s n NOT looking for a gun fight. If I was around city I'd ccw Sig P938 in pocket or my Kimber Ultra Covert 45acp Army/Green Digital, Crimson laser grips in a simple single loop rig. I have ccw guns for 45yrs, n the old saying. I'd rather Have it n Not Need It vs Need It n Not Have It senario. The human body doesn't operate very well nor very long with bullet holes in them.
Hope I helped someone out there today. Enjoy your shooting time n fight for our gun rights as well. As if we don't, they WILL TAKE THEM,,, God Bless, Ty

I found a model 71 Beretta in an original box w/papers & 2 mags at a gun show 45 or so years ago and got it for $100.00. It has an adjustable rear sight (which I never had to adjust - it printed a dead center group @25yds.) The prior owner thought it was too ugly because the bluing on the frame didn't match the bluing on the slide- frame was a deep black and the slide had a purplish hue. The 71 is my favorite squirrel/rabbit gun. It has had several thousand rounds put through it and has NEVER jammed. It shoots best with Federal target grade .22s or similar .22 target lead solids -- it doesn't like hollow-points. It has never jammed with the hollow points but they just aren't as accurate as the lead solids. I've been deer hunting in Vinton County Ohio with the same group of guys for 25+ years and this little pistol has gone with me every year. I didn't get a deer every year but the group has always had squirrel meat on half of those hunts. At home there's probably still 10-15 rabbits in the freezer from the last season. The model 71 and my dad's old .22 Browning auto are my two favorite hunting guns. In my area, i have never seen another model 71 for sale. My wife and I each have a Ruger MK4 slab-sided .22 target pistols and routinely take them to the range where we routinely gather up as many unbroken clay birds from the trap range and then lay them out on the 50 and 100 yard hills and spend some time busting them up with the rugers. The mod. 71 can compete with Rugers on the 50 yard hill but not at 100 yards without a lot of luck and sandbags. As stated, I've never seen another mod. 71 for sale, but if I did or when I do- i'm going to buy it. It's a marvelous pistol.

Frame is neutral black because it's real iron bluing, frame is _slightly_ purplish hued " black" because it's anodized Aluminum. Different base metal, different treatment.

I lived in Israel for several years when I was a young man, and I worked as a bellhop in a swanky hotel there. After a while I got to know a couple of the security guards because they had their office right behind our station in the lobby. We would drink coffee and smoke, back then everyone smoked, and one of the security guys was ex mossad. One day we started talking about guns and he told me how effective a .22 pistol could be. When I laughed and called it a chicks gun, that it wasn’t a big enough caliber, he calmly turned to me and said-“ when I put two in your heart and one in your head, you won’t care what caliber it is .” I swallowed and said-“ oh, I’m sure that you’re right.” 😳😕😂😂😂

Wonderfully detailed, fact-based, and entertaining video, Mr. Chan. Thank you for spotlighting the classic Beretta Model 71 and its place in history! What is the difference between the Model 71 and the Model 70s, also chambered in .22LR and whose magazines contain 8-rounds. The weapons look to be identical, except I believe the 70S can not accommodate a silencer without some barrel work.
Once again, very well done and much more a cinematic immersion than a typical YT video. Bravo!

I've never watched this channel before, but I'm subscribing based on the strength of this video. I loved the history and the style. Anyone who buys a gun can tell you "it shoots nicely", but I appreciate it more and get more enjoyment when I know the historical context in which it was used. Great job, these stories and characters were fascinating and make me appreciate the pistol as a historical weapon. Compact, quiet, easy to obtain ammunition for, and limited penetration for use within an airplane filled with passengers. It was a treat to have a interesting gun history lesson combined with a shooting demonstration. I like your sense of humor, too. Thank you for the video.

Honestly the best part of the video is the second half with "war stories" involving this Beretta .22 in multiple counter-terror operations 10:23 :
11:05 Operation Wrath of God - Mossad agents assassinate terrorists in Europe and the Middle East who were responsible for the Munich Terror Incident
13:55 El Al Flight 432 - How an Israeli Sky Marshal took on multiple terrorists with Kalashnikovs and explosives... while he only had a Beretta .22 (and came out victorious)
17:04 Sabena Flight 571 - The elite Sayeret Matkal special operations group takes on a plane of terrorists with firearms and explosives... while only having concealed Beretta .22's
20:04 the mad lad Mordechai Rahamim
14:23 the swiss police press conference footage clearly shows the Beretta model 71 that Mordechai Rahamim used:

Israeli small arms usage is really wild. I was there in 2012 and I remember seeing security guards with surplus M1 carbines and those weird pistol-carbine conversion kits that I’ve never seen anywhere else, and then regular soldiers with M4s and Tavors. I visited an IDF base and saw one soldier with a carbine built from an M16A1, some of the parts were completely in the white! I can’t imagine the stories that rifle could tell.

Of my 3 ccw handguns.... one of them is a Beretta 21a 22lr. It is a primary carry and not a backup, been carrying it for over 30 years and even carried it in combat zones while I served in the military. They are nothing to snub your nose at as the 22lr is as lethal as virtually any other handgun round and mine has functioned more reliably than many center fire pistols I’ve owned. I considered the model 70 &71 but chose the 21a for its DA/SA action as the 70s are SA only. A well made, well maintained, .22lr loaded up with quality ammunition is a serious firearm.

In the early 80s I took my wife to a gun store to pick out her first pistol. She was immediately drawn to the Beretta Model 70 in .22 cal. I bought it for her and almost 40 years later it is still my favorite .22 pistol. It never has had 1 problem an it it very accurate and it's a blast to shoot. An exceptional firearm! PS- I own a lot of pistols and revolvers, many Rugers and Colts and this is the most reliable.

40 years ago I purchased a Beretta Mod. 70 and soon fired it off-hand using standard velocity Remington ammunition at a small paper target at 50 feet. I was stunned to find the pistol had put six into a small ragged hole, with two just outside of the group, all eight of which could almost be covered with a quarter. I never achieved any group before like that one, especially firing off hand. As far as I am concerned, the Beretta Model 70 is absolutely the most accurate .22 pistol, and my choice of a carry weapon.

This was the first firearm I ever used. My late grandfather took me to the pistol range when I was 14 years old, the same week as my birthday because you needed to be 14 to be signed in as a guest. I am embarrassed to say I was immediately told off because I pulled the trigger as fast as I could and rapid fire was at the very least frowned upon there. He had the silencer to go with it too but we didn't use it that day. I have fond memories of this pistol.

I had one of these with the barrell internally tapped to accept a male/male adapter allowing a supressor to be used. It was really good fun for plinking and was quite reliable even with the can. Headshots at 10m were trivial to achieve - maybe 2-3 inch groups when fired deliberately. The gun went to the goverment in the Australia gov gun extortion ("buy back"), but I can't recall any issues using the sights with the can. The can was quite an old fashion suppressor from the 70s or so. Suppressors were legal before 1977, and still commonly owned and available after that time - mine was one from that time, IIRC it was only about 1" or so in diameter.
The previous owner of mine was the RSPCA - our animal protection NGO. Apparently it was used o injured racehorces and wild dogs etc before I bought it.

The .22 LR is easily the most underestimated cartridge in use, and one of the older as well. Because it is subsonic it's also effectively suppressed. At the ranch where I grew up there was a split cedar post about 4-inches by 4 inches (ca. 10 cm by 10 cm). There were a series of holes about 2 inches (50.8 mm) across down the center line of the post that were made shooting targets on the post from about 15 yards. The guns used were .22 revolvers and single-shot .22 rfiles using .22 LR. Twenty-twos are easy to shoot and more than adequately accurate at reasonable ranges.

There is a book called "Brotherhood of Warriors" by Aarron Cohen that touches on this. The book detail's his time in another special Israeli unit, but he gives a quick overview on how Sayeret Matkal (SM) uses blood relations for eligibility at the time. The gist being if you had a past relative who served in that unit your chances are relatively good of at least getting to tryout. If you are a someone who is Jewish and born outside of Israel and are a citizen your not getting in. If you were born in Israel but lack any previous family connections to SM your most likely not going get the opportunity based on what the book says. Keep in mind its been a long time since I've read it and I'm not from Israel so I might be miss remembering things or they might do things differently now.

Having said this, I have been a Glock user all my shooting life and I carried a G19 as my Duty Weapon for over 10 years up to my retirement in 2009. I never shot or carried a .22 handgun until last year and decided to do so because of the high prices for 9mm ammo and I'm glad I decided to purchase several .22LR handguns and a .22 rifle! I am now 78 years old and I have since sold or traded all my Glock 9mm handguns and I now own two Kel-Tec P17's, a CP33, a Beretta .22 Bob Cat and a Rossi RS22 Rifle. I did keep my Glock 48 but now my EDC is my P17 with a 17 round magazine & a spare, for self defense! Now at 78 years old, I have the utmost confidence for my self defense needs!

"A captain Netanyahu, A captain Benjamin Netanyahu..." Goosebumps !!
His elder brother Yonatan Netanyahu was the commander during operation Entebbe, where he made the ultimate sacrifice.

excellent content. the legendary Beretta played many other roles than the "assassin" one, during the 1970's/1980's and even 1990's in Israel (as mentioned on this video). Actually only a very small number of these Berettas were used for assassinations....

Great topic and amazing workmanship of the video. You are doing a great job, informative, professional, with a specific sense of humor (which I love) In overall, your channel is based af.
I really like this topic concerning Israel defense, Mossad operations.
This interest stems mainly from historical interconnection between Czechoslovakia and Israel. And it is interesting that these ties lasted even during the Cold War. When training and support was provided to Mossad in Czechoslovakia. Of course, those are only alleged and unofficial assumptions ;3
