Hideous Heart Deep Dive SOLO Scout Speedrun

- Welcome to the first Deep Dive to be fully instated in 2024. This run is my current PB and my sum of best splits comes up to a 11:39. There's probably a few more seconds to find solo, but in a duo there's potential for sub 9. This run is more nuanced than it seems... details below.
Late Update (Feb. 2, '24): after this run uploaded I returned to this DD and got an 11:23. Neat!
Build / Loadout
Primary: M1000 Classic, 2 3 2 1 3, Hipster
Secondary: Jury-Rigged Boomstick, 2 1 3 3 1, Special Powder
Perks: Thorns, Veteran Depositor, Deep Pockets, Berzerker, Iron Will
Grenade Choice: Pheromone Canister
Beer Choice: Dark Morkite
I opt for thorns and improved shields and shockwave on my armor to take care of shockers and swarmers while I manage objectives during the run.
At the end of stages 1 and 3, I increase my framerate to have better odds of clipping into the pod. I could just uncap my fps but generating more frames significantly heats up my graphics card. 90 fps I find puts my gpu in the 50's (Celsius), sometimes 60's.
Notes about this run...
Stage 1:
This stage is more nuanced (as well as stage 3) than just get 200 morkite and 2 mules. But before that, throughout this run you'll probably notice me not directly digging through dirt walls but kind of under them or to their sides. The Dense Biozone has a property to its common rock only shared by the Shallow Grotto (tutorial biome) wherein the carve diameter of a hole made by a pickaxe is larger than usual. This carve diameter is also larger than the carve in a dirt wall and is useful in cases when the dirt wall is thick.
Returning to nuance, I intentionally skip a considerable amount of morkite at the beginning. The idea is to keep the mule moving through the cave as much as possible through the shortest possible path, however there is a balance between progressing objectives and progressing through the cave. Because of this cave's windy tunnels I make a shortcut to some morkite veins in a separate tunnel. These veins supply the bulk of the morkite (~120 combined) and the remaining morkite (30) is literally on the ground by the last mule.
Stage 2:
Standard 4 egg w/ dreadnought. Pop the dread then rush the eggs after clearing the grabber, spitballer, and tri-jaw. I like to grab the 3 in the main cave first then the one in the tunnel last. Lost a few seconds on the 3rd egg.
Stage 3:
More nuance. Dig under the dirt and make a shortcut into the first cave. Similar principle as the first stage, however I also want to start up the black box asap. So, I want at least 125 from the first two veins, rush to the black box with 60 in the bag, then 40 after completing the black box.
I took unnecessary damage going into the final cave because my brain short circuited while jumping down. In hindsight I could've forced iron will to get over to the red sugar faster. But also in hindsight I could have ignored the spitballer completely while getting the sugar and dig a hole on the opposite side of the black box. I dig the hole to set up the black box uninterrupted by the menace. This has always worked for me, although I imagine the hole wouldn't protect me from directly above.
00:00 Build / Loadout
01:25 200 Morkite & 2 Mini Mules (swarmageddon)
05:28 4 Alien Eggs & Classic Dreadnought (low oxygen)
08:56 225 Morkite & Black Box

Nice
Damn this is ridiculous, a deep dive in less than 12 minutes. Management must be impressed.
Absolutely unreal speed. Super fun to watch, gg!
Awesome run! Stage 1 looked pretty much perfect. Really cool to see how we both have almost the exact same builds and very very similar routes. Another cool thing - I don't think I've EVER seen a mini mule where all three legs are clumped together in one spot. Really makes it easy!
Also...10:08...I lol'd pretty hard. Typical mule.
Thanks! Speedrunners like us are essentially a hivemind it seems 😂 We got lucky this week with those legs lmao. And truly a molly moment to go through the smaller hole of the two.
Tried the run again just a bit ago w/ DM and got a 324 stage 1 but probably could have been faster because I lost track of a leg on the 2nd mule. The run ended up being 1123 with a 615 stage 2. I'll admit I think RM has this one because I bet RM has an easier time with the dirt walls than I do without it.
Very nice. Was too busy this week to give this run a go.
why dont you keep the frame rate uncapped? i read ur post. i forget that drg does consume lots of resources if you dont run the fps mods.
I appreciate you reading that, it takes me quite a bit of time to write those.
Even on DX12, which I hear is very good with DRG, there is still quite a lot of heat load on the GPU so I figured it's fine to increase fps only for such short use cases.
