Does anybody ever ask the questions
1)what does it mean to be educated?
2)what does it mean to educate?
3)what is the roll of the school in the community?
4)what does it mean to provide services under title*!..?
5)what is specific services are required for each child under idea?
6)when should schools be held accountable?
7)after what specific services rendered, should schools be held accountable?
8)what does it mean to be a good school?
9)are adults eligible for educational services, and at what ages?
10)are all students equal under the law, and should all students receive services, both gen Ed and sped, even though those services will look different?
11)What happens when parents refuse to follow guidelines?
12)if the child won't complete, won't focus, won't show up, should they be asked to leave.
I could go on for 1000 more questions.
But the biggest issue is, what does it all mean.
K-12 schools are crippled in ways that almost no other industry in the world is. We have no definitive answers what what we are doing.when ever school leaders and stake holders discuss education, they never define anything. As far as I am concerned, this is purposeful. Because we know that the best schools in the world opperste with a great deal if structure for every stakeholder. But when we discuss school reform, it's always a bad teacher, union, principal, students, school building, or lack of something.
The problem is we never clearly defined what it all means before the child ever walks into the building. And many of you who are concerned with this issue will say, you have to meet the child where they are, because they come to us from different places. So my question is, if you go to the hospital and you schedule a surgery, the doctor will give you a list of things to do before the surgery, after the surgery, and a specific list of human capital needed, and an itemized bill for services rendered. If you come in there and you don't do your part, he will likely say I'm not doing the surgery. If u can't pay theirs a good chance he will not do the surgery. If he discovers something while he is in there that will make the surgery go wrong, he may close up. Doctors are trained to preform surgery in a very specific way. They take an oath to do no harm. If they do a surgery out side of protocol and especially if something goes wrong, their license and money is on the line.
But eductors we have no rules the govern and truly structure the work we do. For this reason i am so sick of these stupid blame interviews.the day the tell everybody what it all means from the Atlantic to the Pacific, is the day they will be serious about school reform🙄😔this is a billion dollar money grab 🤑and all ought to be ashamed

Evil as fuck. Privatization of vital public services has already destroyed our country. Slamming our foot on the accelerator of funneling money to rich assholes is not a good idea

@MsJanetWood That's nothing compared to the amount that DC schools spend on failing schools, student's who are falling behind, and the payment to inadequate teachers.

@mpardueable Neighborhood schools are also funded by No Child Left Behind, which is a matching program. Kids in wealthy neighborhoods get more federal dollars because more local money is already spent on them, and kids in poor neighborhoods get fewer federal dollar because less local money is spent on them.

having to wait for a lottery number to decide the quality of my future education makes me wanna puke. quality education should be right, not a privilege. I am willing to pay higher taxes for the following institutions
    1. Universal Health Care
    2. Free quality Education(up to college)
    3. Housing and Nutrition aid for kids under 18
this is ridiculous, imagine how much we can provide with 1.4 trillion dollars that we already spend on US military in 2011, roughly 20% of our entire annual budget

Why hasn't anyone interviewed Michelle Rhee's former students? Ask them what kind of teacher she was?

Time to teach. America should reform teacher.'s pay. Like nursing - teachers should get paid out of a register. At a professional hourly rate per procedure for skill sets that students are expected to learn. The rate should be $25 to $100 hour depending on the the service provided. If my math serves me correctly, $25 × 20 students is $500 an hour. An expert procedure like teaching someone who won't open his/her book- $100 an hour. That's $2,000 an hour in a difficult class. No union needed or healthcare benefits in schools like this if they don't learn it -Money back to the state. Teacher would make $3000 to $12,000 a day with 20 students in a class. That's $15,000-$60,000 a week. Difficult classes could bring in about $3 MILLION ANNUALLY. This would still be cheaper than what's spent on education today.
