  • When it comes to farms, it seems that most have a patch of mint. But it's also often the case that the current "farmer" doesn't remember planting it. This means it was planted years ago by another or no one realized quite how much it would grow!

Mint may be the easiest thing to grow! That can be a blessing or a curse. Because of this, I love to grow mine in containers. It gives me just the perfect amount without taking over my entire garden. But there are certain things to keep in mind:
    - To keep mint growing throughout the summer, it needs to be cut back.
    - Allowing mint to flower will signal to the plant to stop growing, putting all strength into blooms
    - Continually keep the mint cut back by cutting whole stems out down to the base of the plant
    - If a few cuttings have been missed, cut the entire plant back to the base and allow the mint to grow back and flesh itself out.
Even if you don’t have many uses, cut the mint and put it on the compost pile, use it in flower arrangements, or make mint tea (video coming next week)!

When I prune the mint, I like to make little vases of mint floral for the window sill. Also mint in a bowl is air freshener for a few days. Love this!

THANK YOU for the mint growing tips.
I wondered why I had trouble.
I let my mint flower before cutting it

I never knew mint needed to be pruned. No wonder my mints are out of control. I have a big cutting job to do. Thanks!

So for a video idea..what about all of your favorite garden tools. Things that you always have. I know you speak of them in the videos you are using them in but to have them all together in one video would be great. 💚

Lots & lots of ways to use fresh mint but I use it daily to help stomach upset. I just soak fresh leaves in hot water (like tea), It did take me a brief second to get used to the taste but now I like it and it really does make a difference.

hi caleb...i have a question. i live in zone 12 and would like to grow herbs like sweet basil and rosemary. but i always have a rotting problem even though i grow them in pots indoors. i use normal potting soil. is that not a good soil to grow herbs? how often should i water them? do they need lots of direct sunlight? haha sorry that's like more than 3 questions. i love your videos and watch them all just to listen to you talk. i love your voice. it's very calming. 💚

Hi caleb, sorry I have been confused about the cutting away of the flower. If the flower is not cut off, the whole plant will die quickly? What does that mean? So as long as it does not bloom, the plant will live on? thank you ~

My mint in a pot is sad. I got it from the shop steady but when i got it home, the leaves went down. I dont know why. Place: next to the window. Room temperature. Summer season.

How about lettuce. The apartment I am renting from snowbirds had lettuce that came up. I wasn’t sure how to exactly pick it either. It was like butter lettuce. Delicious but sooo much of it. Then I was gone for a month or so, and when I came back, it had apparently”went to seed?” The mint did too, although at least I had picked a lot of that and froze mint tea concentrate. The flower beds were like a jungle of all kinds of stuff that would come up, and I didn’t know what to do with half of it. I found stinging nettle purely by accident 😣
