I mostly like my Merlin jacket with a few notes of caution. I have no issues with arm length on regular fit clothing. The sleeve length on the Merlin is short by about 3/4 to an inch when in the riding position on a naked bike...not an aggressive position by any means. Compared to other high quality jackets, the arm position of the Merlin is noticeably "arms at your side" versus Vanson or Dianese where the arms are rotated forward to accommodate the riding position. I noticed in the video that the rider shown also has his wrist ulnar bone fully exposed as the camera pans to show their hand on the grip. Don't get me wrong, it's well made, but the construction is somewhat short-sighted in this respect. My preference is to wear it more as a casual jacket without the armor.
I am similar build to you. 40" chest and 6 ft tall. I tried the Shenstone in S and M and found the small fit my body better, but was tight under the arms. The M was better for that issue but a little large in the body. I am not sure this model is the same block (shape) overall compared to the Shenstone, but they look very similar. Just winter/summer versions.
@ Thanks for the detailed response! I actually ended up buying the Perton 1 in a size small a couple months ago, since it was the last one on a great sale, and I was lucky it fit really well. Not sure if the fit would be the same in the Perton 2, but I appreciate your insights!
Your idea of 'improved fit' seems to be too tight, especially under the arms. If it had a slightly looser cut, especially where I mention, it would be a good purchase, although the waterproofing won't keep you dry as the rain will get in underneath at the waist. NJ
I had the same experience with the Shenston. I am 6ft 40" chest. I tried both Small and Medium. Small very tight under arms. Medium was ok, but quite large for a medium. But still snug under arms.

Thank you for sharing!
I ended up going for the Merlin Gable Jacket and couldn't be happier.
Great to hear!
For reference, what are the model's body measurements and jacket size in the video?
Why the 1st button is not rubber coated?
Hi, it's something that the brand decided on I'm afraid. - Iza
Is there a waxed cotton jean / trouser to go with this jacket , if so do the bottoms zip in
Hi! Sadly there aren't any matching trouser. - Iza
Absolute dream jacket for me… thanks for the vid!
Our pleasure!
What size are you wearing in the video? I also have a 38-inch chest and 6 ft tall, not sure if I should pick the S or the M.

@@lofdz Do you have wide shoulders? How did you find fit under the arm?

Good video, but it's funny that 370 pounds is very affordable
Merlin must have been licking their lips when they saw Belstaff raise their prices earlier this year.
