Hey one question was were u using your cpu or gpu to encode the video well recording? And If u could do u know the timings for the 16gb vs 32gb because I feel that first test where 16gb won It seems like a speed issue so if both locked to 2666 mhz then I feel timing would have a partial affect.
Another thing is if you have faster ram like 3000-3600mhz will feel a lot faster when u have 32gb of it

yes 16gb is enough for most, but my laptop has 64gb in order to run my super un-optimized machine learning algorithms. more ram is always more fun IMO. The servers I use at work have multiple terabytes of ram which is just ridiculous for home use but pretty normal in the enterprise world. Nice basic overview of ram for those who don't know, hope the channel goes somewhere.

As someone who has run up to 128gb configurations; the more ram you have the more windows will utilize for caching and rely less on compression. The less Windows has to fetch from your storage and wasting CPU cycles to decompress data the more responsive your system is. If you can help it please don't skimp on your ram; 32gb or more allows you to care less about what you have running in the background, your system should be working for you and not waste your time.

not every ram is the same, there is more to ram then just the size and the mhz... you can have two nearly equal builds, with both systems using 32gb of ram with 2666mhz but lets say the one pc has on brand quality ram, while the other uses two cheap ram sticks from a dell prebuild... I can guarantee that the onbrand ram will perform better. (I know... because I had this exact situation where I replaced such RAM with G.Skill Ram)

For those who have gaming PCs with 32GB of RAM, the extra RAM is not wasted. Have a look at task manager, performance, memory and look at memory composition. The standby part of the RAM has data which is cached so it is readily available to the CPU when needed. This feature has been available since Windows Vista. Unused RAM is wasted RAM, so Windows caches as much data as possible so for example programs launch as fast as possible.

2666Mhz RAM is far to slow for Ryzen CPUs, their internal design is much more sensitive to RAM clocks and speed than an Intel CPU. Best to use 4 sticks of 8GB at least 3200Mhz/3600Mhz at CL16 for Ryzen 5000 series memory controller. Use Ryzen RAM calculator to lower primary and secondary timings, helps greatly. Combining the above can net up to 50+ fps. Search what type ICs are on the RAM before you buy, you want Samsung B-die, best for tighter clock adjustment. Your CPU is far to hot, find the issue, your losing performance. Mobo voltage to high? Fan seated properly with good paste? Get Hyper 212 fan?

    • @silfrido1768

if you don’t know how to deal with ram then the best option is 3600mhz c14. not all CPU’s are doing 2000 fclk stable.
Most is 3800mhz without without errors.
3600mhz c14 is about the same as 4133c16 in terms of nano seconds.
So in my opinion that’s the best out of the box specs you can get without touching frequency or timings.
The only problem with getting that kit is the kit is 1.45v.
So when it comes to overclocking to 3800mhz idk if it would be possible.
If your on intel then you have a higher chance of certain memory kits working. Intel is just less of a hassle & better when overclocked.

Hey man, I’m really confused whether to get one of two different laptops. I will list the specs below and I’d really appreciate it if you can give me your opinion on which I should get:
    Zephyrus g14:
    14” display.
    OLED 3K 120 Hz
    Ryzen 9 8945HS
    32 GB RAM
    GeForce RTX 4070
    1 TB SSD
    Zephyrus G16:
    16” display.
    OLED 2.5K 240 Hz
    Intel Core Ultra 9
    16 GB RAM
    GeForce RTX 4070
    1 TB SSD
Please keep in mind that the ram in these laptops is soldered in so I don’t have the option to upgrade it later on.
What I really want is the G16. I really want the larger display (since it’ll be the only display I’ll have) and the dark grey color it comes in (unlike the g14 which only comes in a white color). It also has a higher refresh rate, and a better CPU. Everything about it is better…except for the ram.
I’m worried that I’ll face problems with the RAM in the long run since I’m planning on keeping this laptop for atleast 5 years.
I’m getting this for some gaming (mainly games such as COD, GTA, and some others) in addition to school work (which won’t be demanding). I like everything about the G16 more except for obviously the ram. Do you think this difference in ram is worth me choosing the g14 instead?

Your CPU temps are not good. 90-95c is very high and almost at thermal limit - and that is with a *gaming load (*not 100% loaded).
I also note your CPU wattage readings looks reasonable, so unless you have it running @40+c ambient temps, the cooler mount should be checked.

In DX11 and OpenGL the main RAM is used as backing store in case VRAM runs out, so if you were hoping to utilise a massive amount of VRAM, you have super high res textures selected etc, you better have that same amount of main RAM plus a bunch more. In DX12 and Vulkan this is no longer the case, the applications must simply ensure that VRAM doesn't run out, there is no implicit copy; thus you need less main RAM and more VRAM. I don't anticipate games requiring more than 16GB in foreseeable future.
Cyberpunk is nigh on unplayable on 8GB main RAM though, bloody stuttery mess. 16GB is more like it. Well at least when playing off a hard disk, i haven't put it on SSD.
And so yeah i think if there are any high-end-ish games around that still use DX11, maybe they could be worth including in the test. Though i can't promise that the result will be all too different, since for the time being, 16GB is what most people are expected to have and 8GB is still something gamedevs often target as a min spec.
And yet, nobody has ever in the history of mankind complained about having too much RAM that i know of, but they do complain about having too little. Streaming is of course a case, since a typical setup has at least a few extra Chrome instances running even just within the streaming software, handling chat and overlays/alerts and such. When running off a spinny platter hard disk, extra RAM is also an extra disk buffer, which can make it less unpleasant.
Oh here's another thing. I wonder how Intel GPUs when they finally arrive will handle this, whether they will have implicit data copies even under DX12. Because i have a feeling Intel is struggling with something closely related, whether this might be the stopgap. Because previously all of their GPUs (even the Lockheed Martin derived i740 which still had VRAM) had a RAM side channel and the only allocation strategy supported by the driver was to put things into main RAM, and they'd simply steal the memory controller from underneath the CPU whenever they wanted.

I've made the upgrade to 32 Gb RAM recently and performance -ise there is not much diference in gamming, but i do notice i have a more stable frametime and less 1% lows stuttering. Those annoying micro stutters that happen every 30seconds or so are now less frequent. If it's worth to dish out $50 more for extra 16gb, yeah sure i think so, DDR4 ram is so cheap now that it's realy not an issue to decide if it's worth it.

Bro, get some Gskill 3200mhz ram at least. Far faster than you have with much tighter timings with xmp enabled. You didn't mention your mobo but it may even support 3600mhz but for the money ( Slower timings at 3600mhz aren't as good as tight low timings of 3200mhz) as it stands even now, 3200mhz will be a noticeable upgrade.
Also during your tests you need to take ambient temperatures into account with air cooling. If your test area is 70 degrees(night) vs 76 degrees(afternoon) you will certainly see a difference in case and component temps that will effect clock speeds and possible throttling.
