    Wow, it is so refreshing to hear surgeons like Dr. Chua and Dr. Michelle Lee discuss eye surgeries in an open and frank manner, and without all the "doctors are always right", "surgery is always perfect", and implied advertisements for themselves. Thank you.

    I had cataract surgery in January. I’m so happy. I do have to wear reading glasses but the are inexpensive and come in cool designs and colors. I’m so thankful to be able to see distance, including the television without glasses. Haven’t been able to do that since the 4th grade. And sunglasses! I enjoy wearing regular sunglasses again! I highly recommend cataract surgery if you need it. The drops are only for a month each eye. Easy peasy!

    I am booked in for cataract surgery in a few weeks.
    I am 72 years old and have diabetes 2 (diagnosed in 2009).
    My optometrist checked my eyes for retinopathy and thankfully it was not present.
    I have worn eyeglasses since the 1970s. As I aged, my eyesight gradually worsened. Resulting in upgrades of my eyeglass prescription. It was noted that this deterioration was due to my aging and possibly from diabetes as well.
    After a lot of eye tests, he established that I had, early-stage cataracts in both eyes. My left eye is the worst of the two.
    I am a high-detail artist/painter, so having good eyesight is essential.
    I hope the upcoming surgery does the job.

      Thought for a split second I wrote that and forgot I wrote it as exactly the same problem as yours. I’m 71 and like you type 2 and about to have pre op for cataract surgery. Have pink eye at the moment and I’m distressed to learn that we will develop pink eye after surgery which in itself is worrying as I’ve already been over a week and it doesn’t look like it’s getting better, let alone after surgery. I’m told it’s got to be 1 eye then the other much later to make sure the 1st one heals. The do*s and Don’t too are a cause for concern as I live alone. In any case I wish us both luck.

      @@Dallas-Nyberg there is such a thing as a lens. It’s just my ultraviolet light. I think it’s like $5500 for several reasons I couldn’t have it but I would have the one that they put in is excellent of course I’ve always had good eyes because I watch my diet keep my weight down as far as your diabetes. Well, you have to stay in your medicine, but you need to cut back on all sugars, carbohydrates exercise, and there’s over-the-counter medication is improves eye circulation. My girlfriend had a problem. Her cataract has actually gotten better. She had one replaced in revisions very very good without glasses a lot of things Dr. See-R based on the average person, but you don’t wanna be the average person I’m older than you arediet exercise and the correct spirituality is all important. I have had both cataracts replaced, choosing a minimonovision setup. It has it's pluses and minuses (can get away with bifocals instead of progressive lenses or trifocals. You will have to make choices. Should you get a monofocal lens? If so, distance, computer or near. Should you consider mono or minimonovision? What about EDOF lenses or trifocal? They all have issues (not to mention high costs). By the way, don't even bother with Eyehance which does nothing for intermediate vision.
    Also there are many lens material choices and lens shapes. The most prescribed lens material is hydrophobic acrylic, which generally leads to the best long term outcomes; however, this lens type can cause serious night time vision issues especially when driving (dsyphotopsias). Square edges can prevent PCO (secondary cataract) but can exacerbate night driving problems. Collamer lenses are most like the natural lens but are only offered by Starr and don't come in EDOF or trifocal. Hydrophilic acrylic can prevent serious night issues but can lead to lens calcification. Silicone can get into the eye and cause problems if a victrectomy or other surgery is needed. There are special lenses for early Macular degeneration. Pseudo accommodative lenses are getting better, which may be the new gold standard. Should you wait? Opthalmologists are often partial to one kind of lens or manufacturer. If you find a lens you think will work best for you, isn't contraindicated, yet unfamiliar to your doctor, I would find another doctor.

In January 2024 I saw twgular eye dr to get new glasses have eyes checked. My prescription changed fro a -4 and -5 to -6 and -7. I wS also diagnosed with early glaucoma, iop 34 and 35. In June my glaucoma wD stagec at moderate. Put on Lantropost. Saw Glaucoma specialist couple weeks ago. Wants to do the Omni procedure, both glaucoma and cataracts. ( Cataracts have gotten worse). I also have estropia and astigmatisim and brain mri showed severe outpouching on posterior sceleral junction. Waiting for surgery schedule. I am also on Simbrinza. I was told double vision will probably not be helped. Why would Omni procedure not help estropia?. Thanks for any input?

My doctor is telling me I have a PCO starting and recommends YAG. Wouldn't that procedure actually let in more light and make things seem even brighter? i had cataract surgery. However, while doing the additional tests for the surgery; it was discovered my right retina has a wrinkle. Vision is greatly improved with the surgery. I'm not wearing glasses for farsighted vision. However, even after surgery my right eye still seems to cause double vision. I don't know if it's because the right eye doesn't focus as well as the other that is causing the issue. If I close one eye I can see from each eye clearly.
    I had the problem before the cataract surgery. Signs are focused but not all as one. I'm seeing a specialist today to see if the problem needs to be fixed or not.
    All the options presented that are not covered by insurance were very costly. I went with what insurance coverage-monovision. Got a good result. I was told I could not have the toric lenses.
    Is the wrinkle in the retina common?

    • @susangnacinski8733
      @susangnacinski8733 День тому

      Have you had cataract surgery yet? If not, I have some advice you need to hear. I did monovision with my contacts for nearly 15 yrs. prior to cataract surgery Aug 2023. I elected mini monovision which means one eye "read" out to arm's length - other did distance. I was EXTREMELY nearsighted (like -10 prior) I developed double vision soon after cataract surgery. Here's what I think happened. We did the" read " in R eye bc that's what I was used to w contacts (it was the most nearsighted) BUT I'm R eye dominant!! IOLs are not at all like contact lenses. I think since the IOL is inside my head, the R eye wants so badly to be dominant but, it just can't. FYI I am STILL trying to find a good solution for this. I've had eye muscle surgery which also didn't work to fix the double. I am hoping that I don't end up wearing prism glasses for the rest of my life bc...I hate glasses!

      I have severe astigmatism. I went to 5 optometrists who told me contacts couldn't fix my vision, I'd just have to wear glasses or they gave me a prescription that was awful. This in spite of the fact that in a different city an optometrist made my contacts give me very good vision. I went to a 6th optometrist and he gave me one contact for distance, one for close up and my vision is now better than perfect for both close and distance vision. I still can't drive at night, headlights blind me. That doesn't matter to me. Maybe try a different optometrist. I hope when i eventually have cataract surgery the implanted lenses will be the same as my contacts. They are Oasys for Astigmatism contacts by the way.

    • @gregebert5544
      @gregebert5544 4 місяці тому +4

      They will give you a very mild sedative, and most of the 90 minutes you spend at the office is waiting for that to kick-in and monitor your BP and heart-rate, and make sure you're not wobbly afterwards. You'll sit in the chair for about 10 minutes, but the actual surgery is much shorter. There's no pain, and you will hear some high-pitched noise for less than a minute during the lens removal. You might feel some eye washing. You probably wont notice when the new lens is inserted. There are several videos on youtube showing the procedure.
      Even though your eye is open during the procedure, you dont see anything except a bright light and 2 or 3 black dots in the center because the surgical tasks are well outside your focal region.

    Doctor, my Optometrist dropped a bombshell during my last exam. Ive been going to him since 2013. Im 67. He would always say my eyes are so much better than most of my age-group. I need glasses only for reading and thats just due to the fact that im reading so much lately. I chose to take eye vitamins and he said thats a good idea. But my last visit...he said i have age related Cataracts and have always had them.😮 'Now i suppose you are going to ask me all kinds of questions' he sighed. "You dont need the surgery yet. You will tell me when you are ready'...is it normal to NOT tell a patient they have cataracts? And why is he telling me NOW?

    • @cellgrrl
      @cellgrrl 4 місяці тому +7

      I would think if your cataracts were mild and you had no symptoms then there was probably be no reason to tell you...that said, I think it would have been more professional to tell you. I suppose at your age he finally figured it was time to prepare you. I am now 76, been holding off because I can see only in one eye. I am in no hurry but the cataract is cause smearing of light and difficult to drive at night. I also have super bad light sensitivity. I will be going soon.

      I was told everyone will eventually develop cataracts if they live long enough.
      My Mother developed cataracts by age 47 and could no longer see well enough to drive. She had cataract surgery and her vision was restored. Within a year, she had to have a 2nd procedure because the lense capsule became opaque. My Mom had clear vision until she died at 71. My father developed cataracts in his early 60's and had cataract surgery. My father had clear vision until he died at 73.
      I developed cataracts and reached a point I could no longer drive, watch TV, or do any hobbies requiring clear vision by the age of 53. I have blue eyes and both of my parents had blue eyes.
      I learned the long term use of corticosteroids for my allergies and asthma contributed to developing cataracts earlier in life and developed much quicker. Not one doctor ever mentioned this to me when prescribing the medications (20 years of not telling me the risk). Looking back, if I had known I would still have taken the medications but I believe I should have been told.
      Most insurance companies will not pay for the procedure until the cataracts have advanced to a certain point. The doctors offering cataract surgery in my area did not accept my insurance. I had to pay cash. $2,500 per eye and the lense cost $2,500 per eye. Yes, I paid out $10,000 cash.
      I now need to have the Yag laser surgery in my left eye 1 year after my cataract surgery. The estmate is 30% to 50% of those getting cataract surgery will need the YAG laser surgery. The cost is estimated to be about $500 per eye. I read that some places in the US charge up to $3,000 per eye for the YAG laser surgery.
      Just wanted to give you a "heads up".

      You’re simply overthinking this I had cataract surgery and it corrected me to 2020. I do not need glasses my left eye which I did not have the lens put in is blurry but it’s good. The point is that until the cataract is ripe you don’t need it. They wanna wait till it’s at a certain stage before they operate that makes complete sense to me. My fuel is not Eyes. It’s actually geriatrics. I’m older than you are and my vision is great covers are vibrant fantastic I took the middle lens if I were doing it over I would probably take the higher level lens that is adjustable with infrared light but it’s like $6000 for the lens itself. That’s normal but remember an optometrist is a doctor of optometry he or she is not an ophthalmologist. That is a medical doctor. I would talk to my ophthalmologist, but it’s all basically normal unless you have Other issues which obviously you don’t this won’t be a problem reading a lot should not cause ice strain I do not need glasses and I was 2070 about 10 years ago. My eyes have actually gotten better and I will never need glasses which to me is kind of odd but it’s true Just wait and when it gets too blurry, you’ll know take his advice Eye ex mature, fantastic they’re great mathematician and it’s all math. They’re probably the best kindest most compassionate doctors ever. My woman was trained to Johns Hopkins and another major Ivy League. She’s in thousands of surgery and cheated a fantastic job. I went to the Center For Sight here in Sarasota , but they’re all very, very good

    Could you please help me understand Why did I wind up with the “gummy worms” under my eyes after my cataract surgery. My vision is perfectly clear. But I’m so depressed as I can see perfectly how horrible I look with these horrible bags “gummy worms”under my eyes. It’s been more than 7weeks and they are terrible will they go away at some point. My dr can’t/won’t address this with me even though I’ve asked repeatedly

      I had my cataracts done on July 17 and July 23, 2024 and I’ve been put on the steroid drops and non steroidal ones and they make my eyes itch so bad. Just had to have YAG laser on both eyes by another doctor due to the PCO n I’m finally done with those drops and the doctor that did my cataract surgery.

    After surgery I struggled with high blood pressure for 2 1/2 days. I’m not sure what percent of people are effective with that.

    Optometrists can really confuse our poor patients😊 They should simply ask the drs to take over the management

    Cataract surgery is not modern! It was done over a thousand years ago in India. Yes, look it up.🎉
