- Subtitle Edit is one of the most famous open source subtitle editors out there, and I can totally see why!
It's user-friedly, and it allows you to auto-translate your subtitles in many other languages.
This 7-minute tutorial will explain everything you need to know about this software!
Subtitles available in English, Italian, French and Spanish.

Hi how are ypu? I have tried it and the program is fantastic and your tutorial is very well explained and simple. But I have a question: I want to create styles of different colors for each character in a series (the subs will be in .ass format so that styles like this are compatible). I have already figured out how to create the styles but my question is the following: The built-in player only shows the subs in the color and font designated in the program settings so I cannot preview how they look. Is there a way to do it? Thanks in advance.
To generate subtitles there's a very useful function under "video/audio to text" which can use Vosk speech models to generate subtitles from the audio data.
This also need manual corrections, but saves a lot of typing. The speech models exist in quite a few languages, although the English one is probably the best one.
@@ericvieira68 yes exactly! I made another video about automatic subtitles 😊
Hello Claudia. Great overview of this software that I am just beginning to learn as I am entering the subtitling world. My question is: can I setup a foot pedal (same as what is being used for transcribing) to work with Subtitle Edit? Thank you so much!
Hey! I've never used it but I did some research and I don't think you can use that with Subtitle Edit unfortunately
Thanks, Claudia, I cannot find the tool for lines of subtitles (3 lines, each starting at a different time) and I would like to change them to standard 2 lines (first above, second below, then they disappear and after start to new sub)
Hi! Did you try and change it on the settings? Options > settings > general > max. number of lines 😊
Molto interessante! Mollti penseranno che sia facile e rapido creare dei sottotitoli per un video ma penso che invece è tutto il contrario! Continua così 🔥
Grazie 🥰
Thanks claudy
You're very welcome 😊
Thank you! I have a question - what to do, if you have done your subtitles, but after all you want to cut one scene from a movie, and adjust subtitles, which are after these scene? So - how to move checked subtitles 10 second backwords, so that all timecodes were corrected at once?
Hi, I hope I understood correctly! Try this: edit, select all, then right click > "selected lines" > show selected lines earlier/later
Nice tutorial, I have a question as when I change the font appearance (not preview), I'm wondering how to load those font parameters by default.
Hi, thanks! If you head to options > settings > appearance and choose the font/size/color and then hit "ok", these parameters should stay the same every time you use the software! You can always go back there and change them or restore the default ones
@@subtitlingwithclaudiaThanks Claudia, I think that is for the UI only, as in the preview window we see :) I'm sorry I wasn't specific enough. I have been editing the subtitles for a television series, and it uses .ass style, there is a option to change the styles of the .ass files. I was just hoping there is a way to make those styles default so its quick to edit the whole tv shows subtitles
i wanna subtitle animes with it but i dont know how to save the file as mp4 or similar. the audio is japanese so i add japanese vosk audio to text. then i have japanese text as subtitle and then i do auto translate to german and the japanese subtitle text switches into german subtitles. but i have no clue how i can save it as an mp4 etc all the options i see i never saw that data type before and my player dont play these
Hi! What do you mean by mp4? The video with the impressed translated subtitles?
Does the Video>Open video file generate soundwave instantly for every video? It usually takes like a minute or two to generate if you do it manually.
It should only take a couple of seconds to generate!
Hi Claudia. I don't know this software and thanks to your video it looks very interesting and with many tools, so I'm getting to work and I'm using it
I have a question: I add a video (it doesn't have subs), on the other hand I add the subs and I sync and edit them... but I don't know how to save the video with the subs attached?
I would like to have as a result: the video with the subs embedded 👏
Can you guide me
Thank you very much Claudia 🤗
@@Tetsuo-7 hi, thanks! Check out my video on how to burn subtitles into a video, it's exactly what you're asking 😊
@@subtitlingwithclaudia You're right, I didn't notice 🤦♂

Hello! There is a chance to select lines, for example, from line 363 to line 784 and not with ctrl button and left click because it takes a lot of time. I've tried with odd numbers and then with even numbers but you must deselect a lot. I will be very happy if you will tell me the right answer. Maybe it's a simple way and it is my fault. Thanks!
Hi, how are you. If you need to select several lines of already created subtitles, you position yourself with the mouse on the first line you want to select, (CTRL+left click) and then by holding down CTRL + the down or up arrow the rest of the lines that you want are selected. you want :(ctrl+⬆) or (ctrl +⬇)
The best
Thanks!!
Hi! How do I proceed if I have the text (the script with which I recorded the voice in the studio) and I want to turn it into srt (put the text segments on the voice). Is it possible to upload a text file to work with, without having to take each fragment and arrange it by voice?
Hi! Just to make sure, you'd like to turn your text file into subtitles, right? Do you have a recording to upload?
Hi! Yes, I have a text and I have a voice (and video) that read the text. Can I use this software to convert text to srt? Of course, without having to copy/paste every line. I was wondering if he recognizes the voice/words and knows how to arrange them on the lines.
@@TravelClips-ro yes, Subtitle Edit also allows you to do that! I will make another quick tutorial on it real soon, I hope it will help! 😊
Thank you, I await news.

Nice video, but I was asking why you did'nt use vosk ai to make the subtitles faster? You will find that on video... audio to text (vosk/kaldi) first time you have to download a vosk ai model on your language just clic on ... then select and download with the video loaded just clic on generate, I know its not perfect but it's very accurate and then just manually fix it, there's a huge different if you do the subtitles using that powerful tool, I speak spanish sorry if I make some mistakes on my message I tried to do my best, have a nice day.
Hi! All clear, and I actually use that and I'll show it in my next video 😊 The goal for this video was only to show the main features of the software
Hello,
Do you know if it is possible to edit specific words? like change the colours or highligth specific words?
Hey! Yes you can: once you have the subtitles, select the words you'd like to change in terms of font or color, right click, and then choose between bold, italic, underline, color and font 🙂 If you need a quick tutorial about it, please let me know!
@@subtitlingwithclaudiaThank you for your answer. Have a nice day.
How can I adjust the start time of the video and change the color playout to yellow?
Hey! To change the colour of the subtitles head to options > settings > appearance and change the "subtitle font color" ☺ What do you mean by adjusting the start time?
@@subtitlingwithclaudia Some videos from agencies start at 00:59:40:00 or so... and you need to change it, if not the temporization would start at 00:00:00:00 and it won't work.
Hi Claudia! how do you add music symbols as you type in the subtitle using subtitle edit? Thank you!
hello ! As you are, in the box where you are writing the subtitle, by right clicking with the mouse you will see different options at the end of the list you will see the option 'insert unicode symbol' you will see several symbols, choose the one you need. I hope it has been useful to you 😊
@negramotatallesgrandes thank you! Will try this later. Client suddenly requested to have the notes added to subs of lyrics. I could not find how to do it in visual subsync so I'm switching to using subtitle edit.

@@negramotatallesgrandestried it, thanks! Now, why does the netflix check say have to use code for the ellipses? Can't it just be 3 dots? Does subtitle edit have an option that just inserts ellipses?

How to keep/see only translated subtitles? (not together with original) Did I missed that part?

Hi Claudia 👋
I'm inserting subtitles into a video. I do all the work, create the new video, go to watch it... but the subtitles look pixelated, as if they were a pale white color
On the other hand, using Subtitle Edit, the subtitles look perfectly white
Do you know what could be happening? 🤔

Before exporting I check the font, the color which is white (FDFDFDFF and/or FFFFFF), I export... but the subtitles still look like they are of very low quality
