From an OLD GAMER that bought a GPU Voodoo 3 on top of a AMD K6, just to play HW 1 when it was released, to the OLD SCHOOL developers/artists of BBI : Time to teach these studios generation what is to make art that will test the time, and not a game that noone cares after 1 month. @@pixlax9037 HL3 is the new Duke Nukem. No matter what it is, it won't live up to the hype and times. Some speculate that may be cause for them to drop it and move on. If that were the case, though, they wouldn't have added to the IP through Alyx, though, so it continues to be a mystery.

This game changed me as a kid. I'm not kidding when I say it was a religious experience for me. I came away from the game sincerely feeling that space is our collective birthright. It was really vindicating to hear one of the creators describe that same feeling. I'm so glad this game is getting made by fans like me. Edit: Didn't know the original HW developers are working at BB now. Now I'm even more stoked :D
I felt this was since I played the Homeworld for the first time. The awe and constant questions of why are we not in space yet? Reading and hearing this really made me feel good.

As soon as I saw Gearbox I knew I would have to wait another year in addition. I, as a old-school fan will not, can not, support a closed eco system. As much love I have for the franchise and the great memories with it I will not support anti competitive behavior!
Why would it make a single bit of difference? It's not like you are locked out of distribution stores, just download the freaking launcher and buy it. The hell is wrong with people.

I wanted to write this myself. Formations and Stances (Agro/Bal/Def) ware massive for tactics, like Loose formation with Defence on scouts to distract enemy while your salvage corvetes close in... or Sphere formation with Attack on those 3-gun fighter defendors around your small fast craft you deployed like turret. Homeworld 2 had great sub-system idea that should be expanded upon, but degraded in formation regards so much i never used them, but liked that fighters as formation ware restored upon docking.
Second this. I also think they should experiement with implementing mothership mechanics from cataclysm aswell. I know someone else created it but damn it was just as good as homeworld1.
Amen to this. Also bring back the non-"paper, rock, scissors" system that Homeworld had. Ballistic trajectory, not auto hit/miss. Then of course the differing armor ratings on different areas of each ship, and faction bias of same. Loved the original. Loved the second one, but found it far more straight forward in tactics.
This is the best gaming-news of 2019! No WoW Classic, no Cyberpunk 2077 or Death Stranding can top this announcement... I can't wait up until 2022... It would be great if the dev's could involve the community as good as they can. Like Blue Byte did with "Anno 1800" and their Anno Union!
My only concerns are that it is good, and that HW3 is not bound up in exclusivity, and instead released over all distribution platforms.. So that people have a choice of where they want to buy it..

Homeworld is such a classic. Played the remastered versions recently. Some of the best sci fi around, in any medium. Hopefully this will inspire some more space greats.. *cough* Freespace 3

heyyy, you would never know, how much an 8 year old in South Korea knowing no English at the time was so touched playing Homeworld. Even though I understood nothing I could still understand what's going on, with the tone of the superb voice acting, music, and atmosphere. It wasn't just a game. It was like looking at the art masterpiece for the first time, galvanized and forever stuck in mind that it has impact on you for the rest of the life. Homeworld shaped my taste in music, thoughts, and ideas. You guys are true heroes. Please take your time. I can wait for many many years.

You guys are making me cry, this is so beautiful! The Homeworld games are the most beautiful and atmospheric games I've ever played. And I've been using the sound tracks to relax and have as background music so much while doing other things. I am so looking forward to this!
Waited many years for this, my jaw dropped with delight upon reading the news, fantastic! In HW2, the great network of hyperspace gates was opened, and who knows what awaits the Hiigarans in these long forgotten, hidden places. Thats a great starting point for the next chapter, The age of S'jet. I also hope the progenitors might play a larger role in this, what they left behind and why they left the galaxy. And above else, the spirit of Homeworld and it's mystique, conveying the vastness, beauty, unknowns and dangers of space will be back once more. Everything combined, the gripping story, stellar (pun intended) visuals, cutscenes, hauntingly beautiful music and gameplay made for something truly unique back then... It's sad Campbell Lane is no longer with us, though. Thank you for giving this a 3rd part, i always felt there was more to this story just waiting to be told.
Problem with Cataclysm is that its probably non-canon. It was made by a different studio, a studio that doesn't exist anymore, and the ip for Cataclysm is being held hostage by Activision.
This is one announcement I was not expecting. The Homeworld games are some of my favorite space strategy games. The atmosphere and lore are unparalleled in the genre. I look forward to seeing that again.
Homeworld was my long-time favorite game. I replayed it repeatedly, primarily as the Kushan with different hull and contrail colors, but Taiidan as well. Homeworld Remastered got me so excited to play even with just new hardware and software compatibility but the graphics upgrade as well. Now HW 3... I am beyond ecstatic! Thank you!
I remember that feeling of exploration. Controls were flawless, it were so easy to switch targets and observe from any point. I loved so much just watching how everything works. The movement so smooth and graceful... oh, it's nice to dig into memories. Sadly, I cannot afford to jump into it again now -- it is a huge thread to forget doing everything else.

Holy Moly. Can't believe my eyes, I can actually see it being done. I was 14 years old skipping school and playing Homeworld locked in my room listening to the ambient sounds of space and my fleet, distant radio chatter and looking at the beautiful ship designs and lighting of nebulas and stars. Every ship was too important to lose. Remembering how the Bentusi sacrifice was the saddest farewell. Day 1 preorder as far as I'm concerned. The best news this year !! I basically gave up on hoping that another installment would ever get made. Best game of my youth. Can't wait for this to be in my hands. It's like a soldier that you thought died in the war, returning home.
Homeworld was my very first RTS game. I was born in 1995, and watching my dad play this game in 1999 is what really turned me into a gamer. Took me until I was 10 years old to beat the first game on my own. Cataclysm was probably my favorite of the three, growing up. My number 1 thing is this: Us gamers are not looking for oversimplified copies of the old games. Look at Supreme Commander 2 and how poorly it did compared to the first Supreme Commander. Look at how Classic WoW has recreated a fire within Blizzard Entertainment's old-guard fans. See how Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is still the most beloved and played in the franchise. Personally, I love both being able to make individual starfighters and formations like we did in the first game and Cataclysm. But I would also love the option to create squadrons in the hanger like in Homeworld 2. Is it at all possible we can combine these things? Let's be able to customize our fighter squadron makeup inside the hanger before they launch from the hanger. Want 15 fighter-interceptors in a claw formation? Or perhaps a 7 fighter-interceptor in a delta formation? Let's allow players to be able to customize exactly what their squadron makeup looks like. Cost's more and takes longer the bigger the formation. Maybe even be able to create more customized fighter squadrons, being able to set up a custom fighter-interceptor screen for fighter-bombers that take up the rear! Give the players more options to be complex. It doesn't just have to be for fighters/corvettes, either. Let this feature exist for larger vessels. Give the players extra freedom and choice in the makeup and positioning of their fleets. My point is, emulate the original design intentions of the first game. Don't dumb it down, make unit production and fleet compositions the OPPOSITE of cookie-cutter. Make research choices matter in the early-game. Make a compelling story in the campaign.
It would be awesome if the campaign was longer than the last two this time as I always thought they were a little too short but I loved every minute of them. Always wanted more and now here it is. I always kinda considered homeworld cataclysm as number 3 but I am not complain just more awesome content I hope

They lost the source for cataclysm, thus why they didnt remastered thogeder with 1 and 2. Remastering without the source would be pretty much reverse engineer and build a new game.
This has made my day!! With the pandemic and depression looming over me most, if not all, the time, now i feel happy to have something to look forward to. Truly amazing game that gave me so much joy in my childhood. Homeworld holds a very special place in my heart. Please deliver a Homeworld 3 in the same caliber! Don't $%& it up, please!!!

I was like 8 when my brother invited me to watch the intro Cinematic with him for Homeworld. I went on to listen to Adagio for Strings around 28 times that day and am now going to build a PC to play this and many other RTS games I've missed playing for around 15 years! Cannot. Fucking. Wait.
I have been waiting for this for so long. I think it's wonderful. I hope you have any of the same dev team, because more than anything, that is what made homeworld astounding. You had a developer that wrote a pathing algorithm for a ship in three dimensions, while blizzard was spawning a bunch of units in one spot to attack an enemy all at once in two dimensions.
Homeworld 3 YES!!!! SO glad Gearbox picked this up!! I was worried the whole dispute among the original makers would be ENDLESS! So excited no matter that it's 2 years away!

I was 14 years old skipping school and playing Homeworld locked in my room listening to the ambient sounds of space and my fleet, distant radio chatter and looking at the beautiful ship designs and lighting of nebulas and stars. Every ship was too important to lose. Remembering how the Bentusi sacrifice was the saddest farewell.

Homeworld was my very first RTS game. I was born in 1995, and watching my dad play this game in 1999 is what really turned me into a gamer. Took me until I was 10 years old to beat the first game on my own. Cataclysm was probably my favorite of the three, growing up.
My number 1 thing is this: Us gamers are not looking for oversimplified copies of the old games. Look at Supreme Commander 2 and how poorly it did compared to the first Supreme Commander. Look at how Classic WoW has recreated a fire within Blizzard Entertainment's old-guard fans. See how Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is still the most beloved and played in the franchise.
Personally, I love both being able to make individual starfighters and formations like we did in the first game and Cataclysm. But I would also love the option to create squadrons in the hanger like in Homeworld 2. Is it at all possible we can combine these things? Let's be able to customize our fighter squadron makeup inside the hanger before they launch from the hanger. Want 15 fighter-interceptors in a claw formation? Or perhaps a 7 fighter-interceptor in a delta formation? Let's allow players to be able to customize exactly what their squadron makeup looks like. Cost's more and takes longer the bigger the formation. Maybe even be able to create more customized fighter squadrons, being able to set up a custom fighter-interceptor screen for fighter-bombers that take up the rear! Give the players more options to be complex. It doesn't just have to be for fighters/corvettes, either. Let this feature exist for larger vessels. Give the players extra freedom and choice in the makeup and positioning of their fleets.
My point is, emulate the original design intentions of the first game. Don't dumb it down, make unit production and fleet compositions the OPPOSITE of cookie-cutter. Make research choices matter in the early-game. Make a compelling story in the campaign.
I remember buying the original Homeworld box and kept the manual under my bed to read as it was so beautiful.

It would be awesome if the campaign was longer than the last two this time as I always thought they were a little too short but I loved every minute of them. Always wanted more and now here it is. I always kinda considered homeworld cataclysm as number 3 but I am not complain just more awesome content I hope

A really hi end rig way back when, sheesh I feel OLD now (and I guess I am lol) BUT this being developed and launching soon ish has me feeling like a KID again! cheers folks, really stoked for this. 👍

They lost the source for cataclysm, thus why they didnt remastered thogeder with 1 and 2.
Remastering without the source would be pretty much reverse engineer and build a new game.

The moment this game was announced it immediately became my most anticipated game.
Sweet mother of god. Anyone who doesn’t know the Homeworld story (including cataclysm) doesn’t know what story telling in games is. The originals were so good and got you feeling so invested. I can’t wait to ruin my friends with this game :D
I was like 8 when my brother invited me to watch the intro Cinematic with him for Homeworld. I went on to listen to Adagio for Strings around 28 times that day and am now going to build a PC to play this and many other RTS games I've missed playing for around 15 years! Cannot. Fucking. Wait.

I have been waiting for this for so long. I think it's wonderful. I hope you have any of the same dev team, because more than anything, that is what made homeworld astounding. You had a developer that wrote a pathing algorithm for a ship in three dimensions, while blizzard was spawning a bunch of units in one spot to attack an enemy all at once in two dimensions.
Goal already met, first 3 days at that. Now that's some meaningful support.
