Rescued 71 Chrysler New Yorker - Will it Start, Run and Drive?

- Land yacht anyone? This is a 1971 Chrysler New Yorker with the factory big block 440CI. Although this car didn't have every option installed on it, it was top end tier car back when new. Electric locks, A/C, power locks, tilt AND telescopic wheel, what else could you ask for? Oh, and it has the famous growling Highland Park Hummingbird gear reduction starter that the ol' Mopars are famous for. I do not suspect its been sitting for a very long time, odometer says about 80,000 and judging by the brake pedal I'm inclined to believe that the odometer hasn't rolled over yet. Unfortunately the vinyl top has completely disintegrated and we have rust holes around the rear window. It didn't smell to bad driving home but 3 of 4 windows were rolled down. I thought I would get this car running before the blackberry's take over. My channel is for entertainment purposes only. Please don't repeat my shenanigans however epic they may be. Enjoy

I will never understand why a great looking car like that can be treated so bad, never.
@ YKXZWX ... I couldn't agree with you more my friend and I am the one who now owns this gem and man let me tell ya she's awesome.
Glad to see people saving our old classics. Nothin like em.
I'm so glad these great cars from the early 70s are being rescued. My favs were Chrysler Corps from 70 to 72.
CHRIS -- YOU HIT GOLD WITH THIS CAR !! THIS CAR STARTED RIGHT UP,, ROLLED NO FROZEN WHEELS ,,. THE INSIDE IS GREAT THE OUT SIDE PAINT NOT BAD .. YOU HAVE A NICE CAR ,, I AM GLAD YOU SAVED THIS GEM FROM RUSTING TO DEATH,,. DONT GIVE UP ON THIS CAR!!!!
This car will be with me for some time. It'll get refurbished and treated with tender loving care right here on this channel don't you worry!
OW! My ears!! Stop screaming!!
For a 50 year old car and it is still going strong, they don*t make cars like that anymore,👌☝️👍👍☝️👌
I love all old cars and watching this guy and others who bring em back to life.
I also enjoyed the polka music at the end, I grew up with that, my dad was Czech.
Not a MOPAR fan but she's a beauty. We called them "Boats". Sitting in the weeds will take lines and frame out..
Good to see that beast back on the road ! I even like the color. It came back pretty well.
Sweet 440. Dad had a 1969 T & C Wagon, 383 4 barrel, dual exhaust from 72-85. I learned how drive with that wagon. I love the fuselage Chrysler's, 69-78.
Good job of him to save that classic, not many left like that wood be an nice flip or keep.
Now THAT'S a boat. Very nice. The only boat i ever owned was a '65 Electra 225 with a thirsty 401.
I always loved these fuselage Chryslers. I own a 69 Imperial which is pretty much the same as what you have there. I've owned it since 1994 and it always amazed me how well it drives and handles for such a big heavy car. Roof rust was a big problem on these years.
I have heard that these years are prone to rust. I really love these boats. Automatic transmission, electric windows, A/C, all the modern amenities i need without computers.
thats a nice ride
Thanks for saving the old car!
Cool save, my grandpa had a 71 Newport the same color and a 440. Well done fellas
Great save
nice lines nice chrome.. would look good cruisin roads of NZ.. def worth reviving this Chrysler !! 👍
Lines and chrome for the win. Can't quite afford to ship it to NZ for a cruise, but ill do the best to cruise it up here for you guys when we get it properly running. Cheers
@@SwedeMachine nice... 👍
New sub from UK. Mid 50s to early 80s american cars were always more stylish than our`s.
Welcome from across the pond! Come on now you’re not representing your British cars that well, I mean look at the Reliant Robin…….er never mind ha ha. 50-80’s will mostly be presented here. Thanks for stopping by and welcome aboard👍🏼
My friend's dad has a dark blue '70 New Yorker 4 door hardtop with a 440. It's in good shape.
Got a 1961 Chrysler New Yorker wagon. All prepared and ready for paint.
Are you a customer?
Had a 61 Newport wagon back in the late 60's What a blast that car was.
The car seems to ride smooth going down the road
Love these old cars when I drive them they take me right back to when I was a kid all the same smells and everything
That interior is in fantastic shape for its age.
HI CHRIS ,, ENJOYING WATCHING THIS VIDEO AGAIN .. ITS A LIFE SAVER ,,.. I JUST WATCHED YOUR BIG WHITE CONTANETAL CAR VIDEO THAT WAS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THX..
How can anybody in their right mind let a car like this sit and rot? My neighbor's parents drive a 1971 Chrysler Imperial the same color, with a tan vinyl roof, and leather interior that looks like they just bought the car. The car belonged to the Father of my neighbor's Father, bought new in December of 1970 as a Christmas present for his wife. The real wire wheels on this New Yorker look incredible. Love your rescue videos.
Oh I don't know how sometimes as well. But I'm glad we got it rescued! Those rims I really do like. Excellent taste you have =-)
Very in formative ,carry on just like you are now ! Most excellent
Really enjoyed watching this! The video with the Lincoln is my favorite!
My Dad would have loved this channel. We had 1973 Buick Riviera he could not figure out. Mind you he was no mechanic although he tried. I want a classic so bad but my wife won't have it.
Good for your dad. Ive learned the boss comes 1st over the years. You're always welcome to come by and visit my channel in the meantime👍
@@SwedeMachine i just it found your channel by chance. I am always looking at old cars dreaming about getting one. Look forward to binge watch all your videos...inspiring my next hobby after retirement.
I can get behind that👍😀
That New Yorker wants to run,,,looking mighty dandy, with a good wash she will sparkle
Love those big tanks!
Seems like Mopars are coming out of the wood work
I had an identical mate to that car in 1979. I loved it and drove it all over the country. I gave it to one of my lady employee's so she could take her family back to Chicago from Meriden, Kansas. She wrecked it on the way back, But even with the whole left front fender cut off abd the hood off, she made it all the way back to Chi Town.
Just had to sub , the interior is almost identical to my Australian built Chrysler regal se except it has leather bucket seats and floor shift. What a beautiful car mate, they built the best back then. Very easy to restore this one, body looks great. They all rust around the windsceens, I've done lots of them ,hard to do but after a few it's easy. This is well worth doing. 440, 727, and probably a big Dana 60. This will run forever, everytime I buy a new so I don't have to drive my Chrysler to work it falls apart and I end up driving the Chrysler for 6 months because I hate the new car so much. Same as the wife's 67 impala, once I start driving it I'm gone all day. Modern cars are why I left panel beating, they really are the pits . Great video mate, what a beast this could be. Not hard to get big power from a 440. Just built a 327 and they are like a toy compared to the Chrysler engines. I've blown up plenty of Ford's and Gms but never a Mopar.
Welcome! We will be cleaning it up nicely, probably tune up, detaining the interior et. Ill take bucket seats and and floor shift any day! No school like the old school!
Very nice land yacht
I feel like we probably missed some details on this. If they started it off the gas that was in the tank, it couldn't have been sitting there that long. Still, I'm loving these old land yachts, it's nice to see them getting some attention now.
Old Mopars gave the smoothest rides because of their torsion bar front and refined leaf spring rear suspension systems. (My 63 Dodge 440 four door sedan has a ride smoother than my 85 Cadillac Seville or my 65 Cadillac Coupe DeVille.
slightly envious!
What a find. I had a 69 new Yorker in 72. 440 and robin egg blue with the white roof. It had a quad stereo from the factory in it. Remember them? Awesome car. In the 90s I had a 77 Newport custom 400 and it was a gemer too. So effing comfortable and I ouitran the cops in it and got away or I wooda lost my licence drunk driving but I did outdrive and outrun two cruisers so I wasnt that drunk. Nothing like cruising and looking out over that vast hood.
I have a New. Career.. This Car reminds me of a '74. Lincoln I. Bought in Knoxville,. Years ago.. She was running. I had alot going on at the time, and ended up selling it..I. Wish I wouldn't have.. I'm going to try and find the. Follow up Videos, on this. One.. Thanks.. Your. Channel is. Awesome !!.
Saw this in my feed , subbed immediately as I'm Mopar ....
Nice old beast. I Agree with the other comments that it is nice to see these old classics saved. Well done.
My 71 Chrysler Newport would change radio stations via the floor dimmer switch!
Started suspiciously easy, probably wasn't sitting for decades. Love the exhaust sound!
Naw. Maybe sitting for 3 years ish. Exhaust sounds phenomenal!
Nice classic antique car! 👍 from india 🇮🇳
Love that big block rumble. She’s in good shape! I know you’re not a body guy, but that paint looks like it would do good with a cut and buff. Fix the rust and paint the top matte black. I’d daily drive that thing.
I totally agree with you! In my case, I've always been infatuated with big American cars! So much so that my dream cars are all from the era between the mid 50's and mid 70's. I really like several modern cars but I don't like most of them because they're hard to fix when they break. They lack real metal bumpers, have super elongated headlights and small, froggy trunks. Plus, their protruding dashboards, overloaded with gadgets, are annoying to the point that driving is not an enjoyable experience anymore! The worse part of it though is, that they're over designed yet look the same, thus lack the presence, slenderness, and elegance of old American cars like this beautiful New Yorker! I wish GM would stop copying foreign cars styling and principles, listen to its own people and bring back big American cars again! I mean, most people drive huge, gas guzzling SUVs or pickups nowadays. Therefore, there shouldn't be a problem with reviving the cars that made the US admired and envied the world over! God bless the good, old USA!
She's a beauty...My pop had a 72 when I was growing up. I want one but so hard to find!
Ive noticed they are either too far gone or you have the $10,000+ beauty queens for sale....
@@SwedeMachine hell I can't even find one that's a rust bucket. Lol. I have several old cars but that one always gets away!
Oh sneaky lil' thing ha ha. I'm pulling for ya!
I know I'm a bit of a late response to this video but what a great find! Any chance to save these old cars needs to be taken, because they'll never build them like this again. I'm 44 but as I've gotten older I've come to appreciate what luxury cars USED to be - it wasn't about how much technology was in the car so much as the smooth, effortless, isolated, and supremely comfortable ride quality and space and comfort. In that regard, there's not a single modern car that can come close to an old-school New Yorker and the like of this era.
When you get that 440 running fine and the fuel system sorted, I cannot wait for that video. And yes, you are correct - body work is a whole other world from mechanical work. You might have to do a complete tear off of the vinyl top to have all the rust sorted under it, then a new top reinstalled.
Well said👍
I've always loved the 60's-70's cars, because it reminds me of my childhood and simpler times. In those days the ride was about enjoying the experience, and where you were going! Why do I want to go 200mph in 3 seconds? No, I want to enjoy the scenery and the ride!
I couldn't have said that better, we were lucky to Find a 67 impala factory Rh drive in Australia. The old cars are fantastic to drive, I put disc brakes on it and the thing handled great even before I rebuilt the whole thing. I really wish they built cars like this these days.
My Grandfather loved those old Chryslers. I wish I could find one like that to put back on the road and do the odd roadtrips they have out there now
well done ! I am a big fan of American cars. you bring his cars back to life
Love seeing these classic American cars being rescued. Looking forward to watching the rest of the videos on this car.
This is a nice car, good cleaning, a little waxing, take her to the show!
Love those big Chryslers. I had one just like that all the way through high school.
Me too. The first car my parents let me drive was a 72 Newport. What a beast!
Well done. Love how you just start her and drive her. Man you guys are lucky. Anytime I have tried that, leaking radiator, seized brakes - you have done VERY well here 👍
Lucky this time. But others I plan to do will be a bit harder I assure you 😉. Thank you much for stopping by✌🏼
I love your channel. You do a lot of odd and lesser known cars that you never really see people do revivals on. I love it. I love seeing cars that I don't know a lot about. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels.
You had a lot of faith in that car!
Indeed lol
Great old American iron!!😁👍🛠️🔧⚒️
OH THAT WATERBED RIDE ! Fix it up , definitely a classic cruiser for just those nice nights out 😎
I used to have a 71 Chrysler New Yorker brand new they ARE really nice cars when they are new my Chrysler has the 383 engine powerful engines performed real good on the highway really nice driving car
Ha! That Prolong sticker on the radiator panel. I remember buying that stuff and putting it in my little Ford Courier back in the late 90's. That's something I haven't thought about in many years.
I had a 1986 Chrysler New Yorker 5th Ave. I loved that car I wish I still had it, but it was more rust than car
This is a beautiful car. Thank you for your rescue.
Love to see old classics being rescued and brought back to life again. Will be looking forward for your next video. Hilsner fra Sveriges broderland, Danmark 🇸🇪🇩🇰
Loved the video reminds of the one my Dad had back in 1981 his was a 1970 and ours had a 383 engine..
wow thats a BIG CAR haha even the Trunks bigger than the hood of my car!
That car is a keeper. Niceeee
Those big old boats are from my era of cars that I learned to drive in. Those 440's of that time period still had the guts in them for the most part and had plenty of go-power at the throttle. The frigging AC compressor is almost as big as the engine in these 1970's Chryslers, even the slant 6 got stuck with one that robbed the little engine of any power at all lol. Thanks for taking the time and effort necessary to put together a terrific and informative video of your rescues for all of us to enjoy. I look forward to seeing what you come up with next! I'm also a new sub.
My mother had a 69 valiant with AC and it had the slant 6 and still had plenty of power. The thing was so cold it'd put ice on the louvers inside the car where it came out lol
احسنتم يارفاق انه عمل رائع انتم بارعون وددت ان اكون معكم من السعوديه تقبلو تحياتي
I knew someone that had one of these. right up until he died in the early 2000's. I love the old big boats.
What a beautiful car!
Looking forward to part 2!
Me too😊
This car is a project right here!
My wife had a '74 New Yorker the same color as that except the interior was a bronze color. It did have the 440 that only made about 230hp but it still moved pretty quickly.
Other than the roof it actually looks pretty good for it's age.
Looks good sounds good. Amazing these old cars can still be brought back to life. Hope to do one. Lol
They're still out there. Just have an Eagle Eye and you'll catch one my friend👍
If u can do a 76 to 79 seconds Seville, thanks
The front end of that car is awesome. I haven't worked on a lot of Chryslers, or seen anyone else work on them.
This guy's got a good eye for his findings.
Looking forward to Part 2.
There will be a part 2. Probably in the winter. Too nice to be stuck inside the shop right now lol. It will be on rebuilding the fuel system👍
Does anyone else like the sound of the starter on that car when it is cranking?
I do I had a 72 plymouth fury coupe when I was 18 in 08. 360 engine with 727 transmission.
Oh man, I loved the sound of the starters on those. Did it ever take a little bit of extra cranking to get it started? I just love that sound!
It is one of my favorite sounds of all time!
I’ve got a 74 Fury. So nice to roll down the windows and not be buffeted by the wind
Awesome video
Wow thats a nice car for 49 years old
Nice job
Wishing you success on your channel.
I owned a 71 New Yorker 2 door. It was a maroon color with black vinyl roof. It was awesome . One night I took my girlfriend to the movies and on the way home it was raining. A Jeep ran a stop sign and totaled it. A lousy Jeep of all things. I still miss that car. I have the grille emblem that was laying on the road after the accident.
Oh man! That really stinks! Cool that you have the emblem still. Thanks for sharing boss
@@SwedeMachine That Chrysler is really cool. Duals with glasspacks eh? Love the wheels that are on it. That car is sure worth saving!
Absolutely. Yup has true dual exhaust. Which was factory only with the Hi-Performance package. Obviously is one was modified with glass packs of which I love and has some small baffles on the tips at the end so it has a small bark when you drive around town, but quiet enough for road trips. Win win here👍🏼
For that Roscoe Coltrane reference alone, you got yourself a new subscriber 😉 Gotta love that driving helicopter landing platform that is the New Yorker, specially in that 'gorgeous' 1970's Chestnut Gloss, which is just a fancy way of saying p00p brown. Nevertheless, she looks like a keeper for sure! 😊
My 71 different colour brown!! Nice find! They do drive nice! 👏🏻
C body fan club unite!😄
That's a badass car
That dual exhaust sounds great. It's nice nobody stripped any parts off.
For real. Seems no one can find these cars anymore apparently. Since its complete, i can spend time cleaning it up instead of chasing parts. If you got some good headphones, the exhaust sounds lit🔥👍
those are so cool. Good rescue!
Thanks boss appreciate it👍🏼🤘🏼
Classic Mopar ! of course it is worth saving !!!!!!!!
I like how you do videos hopefully you start uploading videos more often
That's a big man's car!
Wicked cool car!
Amen!🔥🤘🏼

Good channel and enjoyed it
I like the fact that you clean the engine compartment b4 doing anything. Most guys don't! I think... why not clean them and move them to a better location to work on them instead in the weeds and such.
Yes indeed. Plus i don't want to catch any rare diseases lol
A new viewer from Sweden 😊
THAT'S GREAT CAR CHRYSLER NEW YORKER FOR 1971 THAT RUNS DRIVES MARVIN FROM UTAH
Beautiful car!!
That car is a keeper!!!
