    TAPE! As a small child, I would take ALL of my parents tapes (masking, duct, electrical) to create these massive cardboard fortresses for my GI Joes! One year for Christmas, I got MY OWN TAPES! I love tape.

    easier way to do it would bbe to not have flat bottom of the shelf but slanted backwards that way no rails measuring required to danger of rolls being not deep enough and it will fit all and any tapes u might buy in the future

      Fantastic idea!

    • @VictorGarciaR
      @VictorGarciaR 6 років тому +7

      Also, make sure the slanted bottom does not go all the way and touches the back piece that screws into the wall. The tapes will rest by touching the bottom and the back, but in a shop that corner/angle is going to became a mess with dirt/sawdust/stuff.
      Same stuff with a pen holder that is a cilinder closed on one end, it will act as a dirt catcher

    I love how you designed the side pieces with a flat, to hide the end of the front pieces, and then mounted them upside down. Then had to trim the protruding corners. Always good to inject a bit of comedy.

    You could take a couple more triangles and add them in the middle of the shelf as a divider of sorts. It would help keep thinner rolls going over like dominoes when one is removed.

    I would suggest possibly angling one of your rails so that the space tapers, meaning you have space that will allow large rolls to sit on the base on one end and then the other end can securely hold your smallest rolls.

    Cool! Did you think about making the tape storage modular and detachable? In the event that you need more than one kind of tape, you could add a cleat to the back and a handle to the top and carry the whole shelf with you to your workspace. Maybe V2... ;)

    I like the simplicity of this. My favourite is a wall of rulers and other flat measurement tools. I kind of need 50 shades of a single straight edge to feel safe and secure. Like one that is good for cutting is horrible at precision measurements and you know how the list can just go on.

  • @wvannoort

    I use the same system as you used before, pegs on the wall, or in my case, on the rafters, which are low enough for me to grab what I need,
    Having to take tape off when I need the last one doesn't bother me that much, as this system is one of the more compact ones, and when you have a small shop, you have to compromise a bit!

  • @Soggstermainia
    @Soggstermainia 6 років тому

    If you were to make the squares that hold the rolls in place twice as tall, and add a chamfer on the inside edge it would allow for greater holding power and less tipping over of the tape. Also it mean that a greater range of tapes would fit more comfortably in the same space.
    Also if your making two or more shelves having one slightly narrower to suit the narrower rolls of tape may look nice and add a nice touch!

    I would add a place to store the Teflon scissors. I love them for tape - no glue build up. Also an exacto knife. Perhaps a slice of silicon on the end so you can lay down some tape and cut out the tiny pieces. Some measurement marks in case you know you need 7 inches?

    I was going to say pegs or hooks for small rolls of art tape (for pin striping). Crepe tape, etc. I have a bunch of rolls of 1/8 & even 1/16 width tapes that are about 2". Along the back panel, in the upper section above the smaller rolls. You also need some stencils and labels for what type of tape goes on which rack. "Delicate Surface".

  • @Sam-de6qx
    @Sam-de6qx 6 років тому +3

    Maybe make the whole shelf detachable from the wall so you can bring all the tapes and see which works best for the situation. Also maybe add some detachable compartments so you take a section of the shelf instead of the whole thing.

    a simple wooden rod through all of them which moves either to the left or right to pull out the tape if needed and a long blade/jagged blade like the one a chainsaw has in order to cut small pieces of tape while still having the tape roll in the storage, like the small transparent tape has the plastic container but bigger, for all the tapes...

    If you're looking to fill tgem shelves, check out that channel as the guy making the videos tries to answer things like "which duct tape is the strongest?" by testing a variety of different brands in a scienticious way. Also, he has videos with titles similar to "which epoxy is the best?", which I know might interest you as well.

    Its.....just not the same without a "Hello fellow makers" into * sigh *. Good job though, now need one for all the sanding paper!
    Speaking of Sanding, have you tried some of the reusable metal mesh sanding sheets? I picked up a pack last year when my local diy store had run out of normal sanding paper (yes, I was shocked as well considering its a big place) so grabbed a box of assorted mesh ones made my JCB and i have to say.......pretty good.

    • @logansmith9437
      @logansmith9437 6 років тому

      Anarchy Antz A For me I found that it depended what you were sanding. Some things tended to clump up so much and I couldn’t get it out of the holes, specifically Bondo. Other materials though like stone, and wood, fell out really easy or could be blown out with a shot of the air compressor.

    • @anarchyantz1564
      @anarchyantz1564 6 років тому

      So far have used it on primarily on wood and EVA foam and I think twice on wall plaster which did stick a bit but after a bit of flexing it and using a vacuum cleaner on it came out fairly ok. I think i more than had my money's worth though due to the re-usability.

    hmm, i've not tried it but could you only use long springs in a revolver's ammo configuration, they'd need attaching to something on the ends to keep their orientation. Then u can just put the tape vertically into the middle and the ring of springs would hold the outside of it?

    What's to keep the Gorilla tape from rolling forward & falling out when you go to grab a nearby roll & bump it? I swear I'm going to get organized...one of these days. I bought a bunch of storage bins, and did sort my costume material - fabric in one bin, leather in another. And I did put together a three-drawer organizer for my paints, except I didn't take into account how HEAVY 50 bottles of acrylic paint are and the fabric drawers don't have sliders or a back to the cabinet, so I have to be careful how I pull them in and out...sigh.
