    The Intel Mac Mini managed to outperform the M1 Mac Mini in a lot of cases! Would you still pick the M1 model, or would you go with Intel, because of eGPU, Windows support & more?

    Very very VERY good analysis. In the conclusion, you just missed one reason to use the intel macmini : the possibility to run natively windows apps on windows 10 with bootcamp. I'm wondering why the M1 Mini was crippled with only 8gigs of ram vs the Intel with 32gb ram? Faster and larger storage and running an external GPU really doesn't seem like a reasonable comparison. Unlike others, I'd say this comparison is pretty lopsided - an unfair comparison at best.

    • @bigdmc6459

      That shows you the M1 Mac mini is a beast. It’s also off the shelf model if you want more ram it’s like a 9 day delivery. I ordered the 16gb ram with 256ssd came from HK.

  • @ariukkonen5878

    That timeline seemed seemed artificially heavy and unlikely that most would have 5 videos at once. You likely were running into memory issues and the light room example was also contrived as you were running the Intel version. The fact that the arm mac was only a few seconds slower batch processing all of those photos is astounding because it was running emulated code.

  • @nachtaktiv

    While I was wating for my Mac Mini (Intel) order, the M1 came out and I really considered to cancel the order and buy the M1. But I'm a music producer and I work with a lot of 3rd party plugins that aren't ready now and my main DAW (Cubase) is also not ready for the M1. I also wanted 32 GB of RAM, so I went with the Intel. But working on a big project with lots of plugins and tracks, the Mac Mini is really loud and it is getting hot. That problem I'd dont had with the M1 I think.
    If the "Pro" version really comes out, I maybe sell the Intel and buy a M1 (or M2? ;))

Anyway I bought it for the ecosystem and longevity more than, crazy intensive apps. iMovie, garage band, rawtherapy , and maybe some games. Loving the big sur experience, especially IOS apps Dominos pizza app right on my rig it’s tiny and quiet I also got the USB C dock that cradles right under it, it hooks to my 4 TB NAS like a champ with no sign in after a couple short tutorials😍😍

    We have an in-house Swift-based API that solves for structural spans, and makes heavy use of Apple’s Grand Central Dispatch code library to keep all available cores saturated. Needless to say, this is a compute-heavy API. My initial testing was a request package of 250 spans on a 6-core i7 2018 mini, vs a base model M1. Both systems were configured as a headless server that takes the JSON request data and returns the computation results.
    Over multiple tests, the average total execute time for the 2018 mini was 1.126 CPU seconds. The M1 under Rosetta was 1.414 CPU seconds, and the recompiled native M1 was 0.697 seconds. This API gets hit about 25,000 times a day, mostly during business hours. So this improvement is significant.

    Depends what you are using the Mac Mini for? The thing with the mini is that it misses out on one of the big advantages of the M1 chip, the low-power cores, ergo battery life. So you are really buying the Mac mini for the performance. However, as this is a new platform that performance is at the cost of some features. That is where you need to make a decision as to Intel -v- Apple Silicon?

    I love your channel, and this is a great comparison of the performance difference between the two versions.
    I have just purchased the M1 model to replace a 10 year old Hackintosh and the first thing I noticed was the total failure of the M1 to connect to and use my existing
    Canon printers. I know that UA-cams care a lot about video editing, but most of us just want the thing to work. Canon totally fails here by not supplying some driver support for the new system.
    My Epson V550 scanner on the other hand worked flawlessly. Epson had an installer that just worked and the Epson scan software ran perfectly despite running under Rosetta. Amazing contrast to Canon.

    So what you're saying is that an i7 Mac mini, with 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage (Price from Apple £2,599 with 10Gbe) and an RX5700XT GFX Card (£400ish) and an enclosure (say £325) total of around £3200, often beats a £599 Mac mini ???
    For 5 times the price I would be somewhat angry if it didn't. The M1 Mac mini is a replacement for the i3 Mac mini, I would like to see a test against that. And adding the EGPU if you want to but if your prepared to spend so much on an EGPU, wouldn't you just buy an i9 16" MBP and trouser £600?

The reason why I am considering the i5 is because I will be able to upgrade it in the future whereas I will be stuck with the 8g and 256g of the M1. I think the next M1 is gonna be a BEAST. I would buy the M1 once they get some updates, optimizes software without Rosetta and gets eGPU support. I'm not gonna worry about running bootcamp because they are working on version Parallels to work on the M1 which may be out in another 2-3 quarters. If they can get this done I would buy a M1 with 16Gb of ram and the 1-2 TB ssd and still come out cheaper tham the 2018 intel Mac Mini.

      EXACTLY! that is precisely why I brought the last gen of intel iMacs, it just arrived like 10 days ago and i've been using windows 10 which is what i wanted, apple hardware plus windows software

    what I'd like to know is how much did he pay for that intel I-7 with 32gb of ram 2TB HD and that 5700XT eGPU I'll bet it was a lot more then the $659 for the M-1

    I'm having 16,256 Mac Mini M1(India), I'm getting a 50 - 100 Scores less than all of those test results, Please tell me why this happens..(200 less in SSD test ), TOO SAD, but Satisfied !!,,, Please install TG pro and check the chipsets it's detecting 7-performance, 2-efficient, 2-gpu cores ? Is that software useless ??? Is maintaining average CPU below 33* correct or should i make it little higher ?? or that's the truth ??? iStat Menus isn't detecting Temperature other than SSD
    // I'm new to Mac environment,,, but understood the env. Please clarify these doubts alone !!!
    Thanks for reading ++!

    Once the M2 Mac mini comes out I wouldn’t be surprised if the cheaper MC beats the most expensive Intel Mac mini.

    • @iamjiroe
      @iamjiroe 3 роки тому +2

      But the cheaper M1 already beats the intel Mac mini. The only time the intel Mac mini beats it or comes close is when the eGPU is connected. That’s already a lot of money and not part of the intel Mac mini. Because the lack of eGPU support in Apple silicon is temporary.

    it sounds a bit mad and no pun is intended, but the silence is deafening. i miss the sound of the fan. I used to walk into the room and hear the gentle fan noise of my PC and new instantly it was on and ready to go. Now, I hear nothing, and it just feels so very strange.

    Hello & How are you?
    Congrats on your UA-cam channel.
    Please advise which Mac Mini I should get (Value/performance) between
    the following.
    Hardware
    3.2GHz 6‑core 8th‑generation Intel Core i7 (Turbo Boost up to 4.6GHz)
    16GB 2666MHz DDR4 Intel UHD Graphics 630 512GB SSD storage Gigabit
    Ethernet Accessory Kit
    Total US$ $1,499.00
    or
    Hardware Apple M1 chip with 8‑core CPU, 8‑core GPU, and 16‑core Neural
    Engine 16GB unified memory 512GB SSD storage 10 Gigabit Ethernet
    Accessory Kit
    Total US$ $1,199.00
    Apple M1 chip does not indicate the speed of this processor. Do you
    know? Do both options come with WIFI?
    Are these Mac mini trouble free and can they get hot over time. Is
    16gb sufficient for just surfing and using Microsoft office?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Richard De Gannes

    12:55 Intel mini did better because integrated graphics are optimised for h264 and 265 formats specifically as far as I have read.

    I am curious, how do you explain the fact that apple decides to make their own processor, and at first attempt they get such better performance? Are they that ahead?

    • @ZONEofTECH
      @ZONEofTECH  3 роки тому +1

      Yes and no. The reality is that Intel has been at the top, for decades now. They never had any competition so they couldn't be bothered to innovate. AMD"s doing pretty well now too.
