A couple side notes for the minor ii V i: The D half diminished 7 is just a Bb9 without the root; so a “backdoor” dominant to C. The G7b9 is a key to understanding dominant chord substitutions. If you keep the same diminished 7 chord and sub roots you get all the dominant 7 chord substitutions. With a root of: G = G7b9, the dominant V Bb = Bb7b9, the “back door” dominant Db = Db7b9, the chromatic dominant or tritone sub (or what they call an augmented sixth chord in classical theory, just spelled enharmonically and without the 9th) E(Fb) = E7b9, movement by third ala Giant Steps They all substitute for each other as does the V of each one whether major or minor. This is one of the best and most practical things I learned in college theory. A very simple way of understanding chord subs. Thanks to Robert Panerio. 16:39
Can you recommend a guitar player online who offers videos as comprehensive as yours, and who has links to as much original instruction material? Thanks for all you do!
Thanks Chad! it's nice to be able to stop this clip, go to the piano & sax to go over it & then continue. Otherwise it gets way too deep too fast (for me).
In most of the minor prhases you demostrate, you talk abaout using Locrian on the II , but you never really play the Flat6. The example of 16:18 has a Bb but its before the actual chord , so it sounds almost like one scale over the II and the V.

Like john Petrucci
His beard must be shaved, he's grown too powerful!
Your lessons are always conveyed in such an accessible way. Not only are you an amazing player, but also an amazing teacher. Thank you

Those pentatonic shifts are super useful in fusion
Chad scrambles those runs ...fingers flying, breath circulating.. while body perfectly still....remarkable
This is pure gold. Take my money!
thank you
"To wrap up here...I'll attempt to play this pretty crazy line" *plays it perfectly*
I love the explain on the approach notes and enclosures. Makes so much sense when you masterfully break it down like that.
Thanks Chad🙏 Awesome, practical info!🎷
Thank you Chad, very cool
I am a guitar/piano player . Your material changed my musical life. Great, great stuff! Highly recommended! Thank you
Chad level phrasing. 19:50
As much as I resent being taught by a handsome bloke 15 years my junior and much more talented than me, outstanding content right there!
I thought you suddenly started to sing there 6:15 haha! Great stuff as always.
Awesome, amazing! Great content!
That last phrase just blew my mind!😳

Lars jensen
Lars Jensen? I like little bit more Jens Larsen.
Man Chad you can play
Great content as usual! 🎷#ForwardMotion
Damn you’re a good teacher
Wow! Interesting!
Are you playing a new model of your 3d printed mouthpiece?
I believe that is a prototype model of a mouthpiece by Nexus saxophones, which is a new company he’s working on with Jack from the Boston sax shop.
@@jaedancurcio1545 Correct.

Glad you believe jazz musicians do not have to think about all this stuff.... scary...🤪
I will keep on practicing... forever 😬
does chad prescribe to maintaining a certain tone while playing through mouthpiece ie g for tenor?
Great video. Didn't even feel like 20 minutes haha
pentatonic shifting sounds so peng broooo😍
the title: 6 levels of jazz phrases
the intro:
Your tone is sounding much fuller. I love it.
It's his new prototype nexus sax
Imagine all the peopleeeeee livinggggg
Will the backing tracks be good for me if I play piano solo? I wouldn't want another piano in background

Learning Jazz to me feels like mastering Mandarin as a monolingul pleb. Albeit a musical pleb.
Nexus mouthpiece? Sounds a lot brighter ...
🌼💚🌱😀
gut 3x
Last one is "hold my beer" level lol 😆
Next up: 6 Levels of Chad's Hair
All you had to say was Julian Lage and Gilad Hekselmann.
You're very pretty, man.
Jesus!
Oh... no, it's just Chad.
But come on, it was not that obvious!
brrr
Great info. Unrelated to the content, IMO you got a little too much compression on your voice and it's too boomy!
