    Put a plastic bag (without holes) around the oil filter housing prior to removal. keeps the mess down.

    First open the drain plug on the housing (13mm nut) ....
    Then remove the filter

    Beware, there is one significant problem!
    Since the cabin filter is horizontal and there is dirt on the top, you are not able to pull the filter out so that the dirt does not fall directly into the fan! And there, at best they just rattle, at worst they make a bigger mess. Always when replacing, you need to use a sheet metal jig that slides under the filter before removing it! It can be bought, but of course you can just make your own. That's what the debris that gets collected during the change attacks.
    It's a hassle, but it's true. I don't know why the designers didn't use a vertical fan like they used to. So watch out for that!

    Thanks for the great video. But these still one question. How to change the oil in the gearbox. The service people say it is kinda "not necessary", however there's an opinion you still had better do it after some 80-100 000 km. For me it sounds reasonable. But I have no idea how to refill the gearbox oil. You can easily find the drain plug underneath the gearbox, but I cannot find the refill plug.

    • @CoolDude-tz5co
      @CoolDude-tz5co 4 роки тому

      Steeldime A I got my local mechanic to change the gearbox oil at 85k miles. He said the oil that came out looked very dirty, well worth doing at a cost of around €30, will be changing it again soon after experiencing gearbox problems in previously owned non-Skoda cars.

    Servicing your car should get even easier in the near future when they integrate a.i. with the e.c.u. Your car will actually talk to you:
    “Kevin, my oil and filters are getting really dirty, if you cared about me you’d change them asap. And my ball joints are aching, boots ripped, suspension noisy…I mean do you REALLY care about me Kevin, do we have a future ??”
    Actually forget the a.i.

      Oyston Out hello mate Straightforward indeed super simple, I guess the only thing that could go wrong is leaks perhaps but would be pretty obvious because the smell etc and it would affect miles per tank... otherwise it shouldn’t affect mpg unless O2 sensors aren’t working properly or not changing the air filter I guess 👍 cheers

      Which engine exactly? But yes. You'll have a drain plug, and similar arrangement with the oil filter. The fuel filter will be completely different and is often at the rear of the car forward of the fuel tank. It will require a different type of filter and usually a pair of specialised pliers to remove the fittings without breaking. Post exact engine number if you can.

    I broke the clips on the cover for the pollen filter when removing so it's pretty much just sitting there. It's very flimsy.

    Small O ring????

    • @BenState
      @BenState Рік тому +1

      OIl filter drain plug. He didn't remove it, thus the spills. You're supposed to remove that prior to removing the filter housing. He didn't. If you do, you replace the O ring on that.

    Nice, clear, easy-to-follow vid. ..thanx for the upload. Quick question: in the new oil filter box there's 3 items: filter, large rubber o-ring/seal [both mentioned] and a small, separately bagged, rubber o-ring [not mentioned here] ..what is this last item for? Thanx in advance 👍🏻

    • @TheOpenboater
      @TheOpenboater 2 роки тому

      The small o ring is for the drain plug on the filter housing. The plug is in the middle at the bottom of the housing and should be removed before you take off the housing as it allows you to drain any oil from the filter.

      No other reason rather than engine compartment space, that's where they found it would be the most suitable place to fit it... thanks man much appreciated👍👍👍

    Hi everyone
    My 2013 Skoda octavia car has an automatic 2littre engine 6 gears . When gear changes from 1 to 2 and 3 to 4 it gets into neutral for a second then jumps a little when it shifts the gear. it also makes a little squeecky sound from first to second gear. Any advice? I am told that I need to get both clutchs inside dsg changed which costs a lot. Please help. Thank you

      Mukurd ranya Not sure if you had your problem sorted but on my DSG wet clutch (on a superb) had similar symptoms and the culprit was the gear selector fork. When reconditioned I had the clutch changed too but if you are going just for the clutch I would ask the garage to check the gear selectors too (especially if there are metal shavings found in the gearbox)

      I bought the Delphi DS150 years ago on EBay , they don’t seem to sell it as a tablet anymore , you can still purchase the VCI and software and install it yourself , I get my VW parts from TPS traders only tho tps.trade/ 👍
