Hello friends and happy New Year 2024! What a year and how quickly it went! On this video we show you several weeks of December. We take down more walls which were backbreaking but quite fun!, install the doors and fixed the frames. Hope you are having a cozy, weekend and if you are Down Under, hope you are enjoying the sunshine! Much love to all and see you next week (NY resolution: more videos!)
Please think about the bread over bricks at entrance door, you could make an outside pizza oven 😅
Look at Merry boots , perfect for there Andrea
Your Mom is a sweetheart, and just makes me smile every time she is in a video. She loves life and is so grateful about everything.
You guys got a lot accomplished! This 2024 is bringing more joy in the homestead 😊
Yes! She is definitely a young soul!
Happy new year guys! The doors are so beautiful, what a find. Your home is looking lovely and so exciting to see more progress on the walls. The rocks are beautiful and I’m sure it’ll be rebuilt as beautifully as your mums room 💛
Thank you guys so much! Very excited for both of our projects this year! Maybe this year will be the one to visit! ❤️❤️
Simon really gives his all 👍
Your mom was thoroughly enjoying herself, it looked like so much fun. Looking forward to seeing what comes next. Happy New Year and thanks for sharing.
Let her work lol , she said they won't let me..😮 mum knows what she can and can't do, let her go 😊
She did enjoy herself a lot! Haha 🥰🥰
Absolutely @teepeeX
That bread oven is a gem and a real work of art. I really envy you...
I know but it is really on the wrong place. Sometimes the old needs to come out for new things to cherish. We are keeping as much as we can and did feel quite sad once it was out
Your mama did so well! As a grandmother that still feels 35, (but I'm 60+) we need to feel the chance to contribute to the family by helping as much as possible. It's good for physical AND mental health. Vive Mama!
I almost passed out when I heard the buzzing and thought, "bumblebee...too close to the camera" and then title said "Asian Hornet" and my knees went to jelly. Y'all have these there?!?!?! Scary
Really true words! I find sometimes when people retire at 60 it’s so bad for them. I wish dad had more time being an engineer, he felt useful and important. Then, I find he found it really hard to retire. We need to feel useful and needed and important in our communities so having things to do afterwards is super important. I’m glad mum always has a go at it and hopefully, she discovers more what she can do here in town as well.
Yes! Unfortunately we have hornets and it’s weird to have them at this time of the year as prevalent as they are. We also have an apiary nearby so it’s really important to contribute in keeping the Asian hornet population as low as possible!
Wall deconstruction is like playing giant Jenga game. How exciting to have all those walls removed but finding a place for all that debris must be a task all by itself. Glad to hear you will be posting more videos this year. Love all that you post!
It has been but there has been a lot of areas where we can fill, specially by the carpark and the septic tank.
To easily remove the smoke and grease from the stones just coat them with a sludge of baking soda and water. Let that dry on it and it just rinses off with a spray of water taking the grime with it. It works on wood beams too.
I've missed your videos, and hope you do more in the future. Your mom looks well and is really involved I'd love to see her new little room.
A french door would be nice overlooking the back garden maybe? So refreshing to looking out the lawn with some fruit trees...
Great minds think alike 😉
🎉Happy New Year!🎉 A fellow remodeler here and have been so busy I haven't the chance to catch up on past videos😢 BUT today we, in NC, are going to get 3 inches of rain and I'm taking this time to emerge myself in your endeavour!!...OMGOSH! Letting that BIG bug crawl around on your hand!🤦 I can't!! I just can't!!😂😂
Haha! With gloves! I wouldn’t do it either to be honest. I’m glad you are catching up! Hope you are cozy and warm for the needy few days and stocked up with food!
The inside of the bread oven was so awesome. It’s too bad that you couldn’t keep it. 😢
I know! It was built beautifully. It is a great shame.
All that stone! Free building materials.
You’re moving right along. This is a huge project you have undertaken. I enjoy watching each episode to see the progress you’ve made. Happy New Year!
Thanks Harriet! Happy New Year to you too!
Is the missing pane of glass in the new french doors actually a cat door? The property looks so much better with the old building gone, it is a shame about the old bread oven but sometimes these hard decisions must be made. Can't wait to see Simon start construction. All the best for a productive 2024.
I'm super excited about your resolution for 2024 posting more videos 🎉 They are a highlight of my week. Wishing you all the best!
I got tired just watching you two roll that big rock away. What a great job you all are doing.
Happy New Year Andrea and Omar. Now You have an empty space to rebuild the room. 🎉 Congrats!
Finger crossed we have one this year!
New subscriber! I have no doubt that this channel will do numbers this year! I'm enjoying it so far! I'm having just as much fun as Mom had with that bread oven! 😅
Ah thank you! And welcome to our channel. I am very certain they felt light as a feather after that haha
Happy 2024 Andrea Omar and Andreas Mom
Its looking progressively different
Love it

Enjoyed the video!
The glass in the double doors is so unique and pretty! I wonder if you ever take a wall down and think, "Hm that view is really nice!" and then consider re-orienting some of your building projects to enjoy that aspect. I imagine it's a long process of discovery on a long term project like this.
Absolutely. The room in that area will be similar. It can’t be changed too much though due to laws but we will definitely open up the view to not only take in the land around us but for more natural light to come in.
Nice to see your comment Christine! May to have a wonderful 2024! 🥰
@@TheIndigoEscape That is really interesting, and I did wonder if there were "footprint" restrictions you were working with. But honestly, having limitations is what makes for the most creative solutions. And I love the problem solving vs blank slate aspect of your project! It's shaping up beautifully.
More videos=more money=more renovation=more content-you can do it!
❤️❤️🥰
You may want to wet some of the stones that have dark red in them and bring them to a jeweler. You may have some raw ruby on your property!
Happy 2024 for you! 🤗
@AlongThePathsOfNature
Thank you! Best of luck with your Portuguese renovation!
I love watching your progress and your laughs ❤Don't stress too much about releasing more videos, if they happen they happen 😊 Very best wishes for 2024 to you all ❤ and looking forward to seeing what you get up to this year
Thanks Dippy. That’s very kind of you ❤️
Happy new year, I really love your videos! 🎉
I’m an alcoholic and watching you is keeping me clean thankyou
Wishing you all the best with all your endeavours. Like your kichen/bedroom; may you have more breakthrough 🤭 😍 and increase ❣️
This year, instead of wishing to also have a Simon around, I'm just going to knuckle down - pay closer attention to what and how you do things and just do it!
Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. looking forward to a bumper year. 👍🏼
Thanks Tessa so much! Do what you can and take your time, that’s what we can say. Best of luck!
Those doors! 😍
I am busy packing to move cross country, but have allowed myself the treat of watching you continuing to build your home in Portugal. So happy you have your mom with you and to see the joy she has in helping you build your new life . I wish you continued success this year with time to enjoy your journey. May you three enjoy good health and happiness. Your friend is an integral part of this time as well and I recognize his talent and friendship.
Your mother is wonderfull, and really want 's to help, bravo... looking forward to the end result.. take care ..

Wow! Im in love with this idea!!! It made me teary, I don’t know why! Wonderful! Thank you so much for that idea, we will absolutely do it ❤️❤️❤️🥰
You’re welcome! I look forward to seeing a video on it!
Happy new year...your place is coming along beautifully....I couldn't help smiling at how much your mother was enjoying the demo at the end...love those french doors.
Happy New Year to you all. Fantastic progress on your property. Well done to you all!!! How is your Mum enjoying her living space. I would love have a tour if she doesn't mind.
I'm all caught up on videos! 😭😭 I'm so excited for you guys, though! ❤
Wow, love those doors!
as i grew in that region (near Arganil), it's very sad to see the oven go... lot's of nice food memories arround a oven like that
Soon we will have another, don’t you worry. ❤️
@@TheIndigoEscape, yeah... i commented too soon, i guess LOL
But try to build one the traditional way... the ones pre-built are not quite "there" ;)
Great work on the oven, looked like fun and with some willing help too. Take care and best for ‘24. See you soon, J&P
Those orange look lovely your making great progress with your home nice to see your mum helping the lads are doing a great job
Well done Mom 😊😂 great work everyone 👍
Happy, Healthy and a very Lucky Newyear 🌟👏👍🍀💐
Happy newyear!
Love the self-deprecating "Hey man!"
😂😂
One of the reasons I watch your videos is that you take the work seriously but not yourselves. Keep on Truckin'@@TheIndigoEscape
❤yah!!!❤Hi all. Wow your homestead looks so beautiful from above. It must be so gratifying seeing all your hard work. Inside and out. Loved the door especially the glass, it's so beautiful 🎉.thank U. X
Have you thought about using the leftover stone for permanent raised veg beds? Measure your leg to the back of your knee for a very comfortable height. Leave weep holes for excess water and for looping irrigation through. The excess small rubble can be used for walkways between the raised beds.
Yeah! I’m sure the stones will be used well. We went to make sure we have plenty of stone for the build so it’s cohesive and looks good. Once that’s done and there are leftovers, we can do something around the land.
Happy 2024
Happy New Year to you all, lets see what you do in 2024
I love your channel. Your accomplishments are amazing.
My only suggestion is that, if possible, could you post on a weekly basis… pretty please.😊
The frequency will make your viewers happy & will increase your subscribers algorithm…
It’s a win, win strategy 🎉
Ah that’s so sweet Chantal! I will try to post more but I want to make videos you enjoy, full of projects, lifestyle and different things to happen. So it’s an enjoyable sit and watch. I wouldn’t want to make a video with little happening or post for the sake of posting, it’s important that is a good video, deserving of your time.
I will try my best! ❤️
@@TheIndigoEscape: Thank you for your sweet reply. I totally understand.😊
Doors are beautiful, dont forget the junkyards as some old tear downs have some too.
First class work!!! Beautiful!!
Happy new year. Love catching withbyour progress

Hello Omar and Andrea, happy new year to the both of you.
I absolutely love the double doors to your kitchen (where do you get for amazing finds from?).
Take care taking the walls down, just out of interest how old do you think the walls were?.
Looking forward to seeing the court area develop in the following videos 😃👌🇬🇧
Ah thank you! We got them on FB marketplace probably the best (and only) use for the app. We got them for 50Euros!! And they are solid wood. I’ll speak about them a bit in the next video because they are actually very beautiful.
The walls are very likely to be around 100 years old. The house and the area next to the over are definitely 98 years old because there is a date on one of the walls (will show you soon).
The bit we are taking out is much newer. Probably 80-60 years old.
Hide a time capsule in one of the wall ends if you can, before cementing it up again - a big biscuit tin or big green glass jar with a newspaper from today in it & a photo of the 2 of you and a €1 coin, and a letter explaining when u became the owners and his old the place already was?)
Thanks for the music selection. It's perfect!!!
What a great work out. Some major rocks to keep for rebuilding. Nice work well done.🎉🎉🎉❤
I’m so pleased Andrea’s mother getting into the fray.. and having fun❤️
Cheers to you all and wishing this year to be smooth sailing for you .

Hello from Sunny Florida. You guys are doing an amazing job, your mom is the best. May this year bring wonderful success.
The vlogger from Bordeaux life, Edd Holmes uses a hand saw designed to cut through lime stone and others. It’s remarkable to watch and you first think he must be cutting through styrofoam. It’s worth asking him where he got it. I’m sure it’s diamond bladed but can’t say for sure. I’m certain it would cut the stone you’re dismantling. Their properties are in France. .
Happy new year to you all!!!!🇬🇷 🇬🇷
Very interesting seeing the deconstruction of the walls and oven. Thanks
Happy New Year
Happy working
Beautiful doors
Love seeing all the progress
Oh, you got frost. Love it, guys. Good luck, and hope to see more 🤞

It’s winter in my area and seeing you all working in without heavy coats on seems wrong somehow. Enjoyed your progress and your company. Happy new year.
👏👏👏👏
Isn't it amazing how a room doesn't really feel like a room until you have a door? A door make a room legitimate. Until then, all you have is a niche. Lol!
Absolutely! We have now a room!
Just love what you are doing ❤❤ keep it up🤛🤛
Thank you!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! The video was short and sweet! Y'all left all those oranges on the ground, shame, shame! Do you know how expensive they are here? I was thinking about all the green algae ghats on a lot of the rocks like on the ruin and your Mom's new wall could be cleaned up good by power washing them. I don't know if you want to do that or not, I was just thinking about the natural color of some of the stones would shine. They used a lot of red clay,(probably the area) when filing in all the stones and some of the clay stones they used are now dried out and have crumbled. It's going to all look so beautiful one day! I see your Mum likes to destroy things too! Ha ha! It's nice to do that sometimes. Just take your frustrations out on a wall or two. Get her a little bulldozer! 😊😊😊 It was nice seeing the land. Yall stay safe! 🙏❤🇺🇸🇵🇹⛵👣👣🍍🤗⚘⚘⚘
Unfortunately that tree has some of the sourest oranges I have tried in my life but I will give marmalade a go. I’m not a fan of marmalade but it is a nice gift to people. I wish I could bring some to Omar’s dad who enjoys making marmalade. Speaking of waste, there are sooo many oranges on the ground everywhere where we live and those are really nice sweet oranges!!!! So we do collect those and bring them back to eat.
I can see the pressure washing but I would worry that some of the smaller stones would fly out. I think once Spring comes, we’ll have a look and see how they look then. Maybe some brushing would help!
@TheIndigoEscape Yeah, I thought about the small stones, too. You would have to be really careful. OH, I hate Marmalade, but I have kin folks that love it. Hey, I'm just thinking off the top of my brain... ya know how lemons, salt, white vinager and water will just about clean anything? I'm wondering about them sour Oranges. .aybe you could make up a spray. Spray it on and see what happens. I have this recipe I made up for Carpenter Ants, any ant, bugs, Grubbs, weed killer, spray it on you, and No Mosquitos bite you either and it's safe for pets...... Gallon of Vinager, 2 big Tablespoons of Salt, Gallon of water, shake that up(with the lid on. Take the lid back off and put in the BLUE DAWN LIQUID DISH SOAP, (if you can't get it, make an Amazon Wish list account and add it, I'll get you a bunch) Anyway, SHAKE THAT UP, put it in a sprayer or a watering can and have a party!! I use just plain Vinager in the late Summer evenings strait out of the jug and wipe it on my exposed skin!! No kidding, my ears neck and top of my head even gets it! Mosquito bites on the top of your head, you don't realize it until your either in the shower or brushing your hair after. Them bites hurt! And it doesn't dry out my skin because I sweat so much! LOL. OK, ILL SHUT UP KNOW! HAVE A GREAT WEEL, ALL THREE! ❤️❤️❤️
How old is the wall you’re taking down?
Because we can’t have an expose outdoor oven in our future kitchen. All the smoke would come into the building not only filling with smoke which will be bad for our health.
We will build another one outside similar to the one here. This is a very typical yet common oven built in Portugal. We can’t get attached to things in our property that will not make our day life better.
Sevgiler...
@@user-rm6ff2pg7f teşekkürler! We are doing our best to respect the building. We felt in love at first sight with it, I hope we do it justice.
I’m in the lookout for more glass like that, it’s still available in some places so I can replace the damaged ones ❤️ thank you for your support and understanding.
@@TheIndigoEscape thank you hayal ettiğiniz gibi devam etsin. Mutlulukla doldurun bu güzel yapıyı. Sabırsızlıkla bekleyeceğim. Mutlu yıllar herkese.
I just wanted to say: Keep the bowed stones and the ground stone of the oven...it falls...sorry for that!🫣
(a little bit of history would honour the old ...)
I wish I knew anything about this house. We know very little about the place even after asking neighbours. Most people around here are related but the previous owners…. I haven’t found much information about the bread oven built but I will try to see if I can find anything
Realised what you were saying now and asked Omar. The archway into the bread oven! Those stones were saved. They are a particular stone from a nearby area and are very beautiful, so they were set aside. They tend to be used here for exterior window and door architraves .
Going forward, why not hide a time capsule in one of the wall ends if you can, before cementing it up again - a big biscuit tin or big green glass jar with a newspaper from today in it & a photo of the 2 of you and a €1 coin, and a letter explaining when u became the owners and his old the place already was?
@@TheIndigoEscape
well, if so...
I saw them all falling into the rubble...also the big ground stone ...it was a rounded one...
@@Ida-fz3irthey sorted them afterwards. This video is about 3 weeks worth of footage and unfortunately we didn’t film everything
